Late period then blood clot? TMI picture warning

sunnydream · 16/05/2018 15:37

Sorry this post contains a tmi picture!
Period was 2weeks late, neg pregnancy tests. Period arrived a few days ago and now I have had a bit of a blood clot. I don't usual get these during my period. Not sure if I should be worried? Has anyone else had similar?

OP posts:

What happened to actually going to your GP and getting professional advice

I think the op will get better advice from a host of women who have experienced countless periods than a GP who may well be male and therefore only have theoretical knowledge about what is normal.

Also this really wouldn’t be a good use of the gps time.

I think we should talk about and see this more. The thread title was clear and if you don’t like it then don’t look and move along.

Oh for gods sake, the OP put the warning in the title! Why have you clicked on this thread?

I clicked on it because I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks and even though there was a warning in the OP it resonated - you seriously can't understand why those who have lost babies wouldn't click on this? Or find the photo traumatic?

SimonBridges · 17/05/2018 00:11

So even though you thought the picture might be traumatic for you you still looked? And then complained it was upsetting.

RabbitsPikasAndHares · 17/05/2018 00:12

I get these OP, had one once that looked like a little red octopus...

I think keep an eye on it, and go to the GP if your period is excessively heavy, or you feel unwell.

tiddliewinkiewoo · 17/05/2018 00:14

I absolutely agree that sharing early MC and information should be promoted - I can't agree with the need to post pictures of blood clots and random people making diagnoses as fine due to that picture!

Yes the OP said TMI - but come on, lets face it, how many wouldn't click on it having had an early MC.

It's not helpful, nobody here can say whether the OP was pregnant or not and it's bloody horrific to see an actual picture of what you've tried to blank out your mind for months/years.

Itscurtainsforyou · 17/05/2018 00:16

OP - I could've written your exact post. I've been worrying for days (am away and didn't think it constituted a trip to random medical facilities). Thanks to all for the reassurance

blackteasplease · 17/05/2018 00:17

I had one that was the size of a mouse recently.

RabbitsPikasAndHares · 17/05/2018 00:19

@tiddliewinkiewoo I'm sorry for your loss, and I'm sure the OP didn't make this thread with the intention of upsetting anyone, hence the warning.

Mumsnet is the only place online I can think of where women can discuss health and fertility issues- topics which can be upsetting. However someone feeling upset is not imo a reason to police this space where we can get advice which is sadly often lacking from doctors.

Ragusa · 17/05/2018 00:19

But @tiddliewinkiewoo that is rather the point. This is probably not a picure of
a miscarriage but of pooled blood from an overdue period.

Can I respecrfully urge you to get some (more) counselling for the miscarriage? It can really help.

I clicked on the links because I have had a.miscaŕiage and though I could offer some useful advice to snoher woman, just maybe...

ConciseandNice · 17/05/2018 00:20

I’ve had horrific miscarriages and I clicked because I thought I’d potentially be able to help. Help another woman. Help a woman who was worried about a clot. If a person feels that they can’t handle it then they shouldn’t click and complain. It’s fucking ridiculous. Poor
OP. For what it’s worth I think this is normal and as pps have said you’d have had a positive test even if just early and a chemical pregnancy. It is a worry though so keep an eye (nose?) out for smell or if you get a fever.

HadronCollider · 17/05/2018 00:35

Rabbits You get art?Grin my periods are so common and down market

itsbetterthanabox · 17/05/2018 00:56

It's a picture of a blood clot. A lot of us get these every period.
You are imagining it's something it isn't. Do you not get clots?

JustWomanWillDoThanks · 17/05/2018 01:07

Until seeing on MN I thought I was the only person who had ever had javlin arse, I thought it meant bad things for years!

Me too. I'd only ever told dh about it and he said I was a weirdo. Sometimes he could tell when it was happening as I sat down and would take the piss!

I get clots like that every month OP, it's my normal, my sister says she passes ones that look like continents sometimes.

I know medical advise is always best but sometimes talking to other women and comparing experiences can be a relief until a poster is able to or feels strong enough to get help. I always worry about wasting a GPs time and convince myself whatever is bugging me is nothing, especially with the shortage of resources the NHS has atm. It's daft I know but I know many people do this too.

My best friend is staying at mine for a few days Im showing her how to navigate Mumsnet as she's just signed up to read about homeschooling as I told her this place is great, this was up in active and she asked me to open it, asked if she's sure and if she knew from title what the image was likely to be and said she might be able to help.

She's has five early miscarriages and felt she might be able to help, that she remembers being terrified and panicked and unsure if she should bother her GP or not and wanted to try and help:

Thanks for pps who've posted their experiences.

Eastcoastmost · 17/05/2018 02:27

OP put a warning in the title. Don’t click if you think you’re going to be upset.

It’s actually reassuring to find I’m not the only one with clots each month. I have literally never discussed this with anyone.

He11y · 17/05/2018 05:55

Don’t feel bad for posting the picture - you gave a warning and shouldn’t have to take responsibility for any adults choosing to look.

Looks normal to me.

I’d wait and see what happens next month. If you’re still worried then, go and see your GP for peace of mind.

AlonsoTigerHeart · 17/05/2018 06:03

Op posted a clear title with an added warning.
If you still cliked and are offended thats your own fault.

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 17/05/2018 06:07

With respect I imagine many women in here have had early miscarriages, I have, if I was sensitive about it I wouldn't have opened the thread. The op put a warning in the title, if it was going to upset you Tiddlywink you shouldn't have clicked.

OP you have done absolutely nothing wrong, and that clot looks like a normal period clot to me 👍🏻

12Etudes · 17/05/2018 06:13

Agree Fabulously

Notthatwomanagain · 17/05/2018 06:23

OP you were not wrong to ask as you respectfully put a warning in the title and it was clear before opening what the post was going to show

That is an entirely normal blood clot by the looks of it and coupled with a negative pregnancy test I hope you are reassured. Like others on here I get clots like this or bigger every month. It can be really uncomfortable passing a clot causing contraception like pain or making you feel faint.

For PP who were distressed by it, I can understand that and I’m so sorry for what you have been through and your loss.
But women sharing and learning and removing the stigma of asking each other such things is vital.
I hope you would feel you can share the pain of your miscarriages on another thread and maybe get some support also?

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 10:45

It was on the top of google on my phone pic included!

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 17:32

SimonBridges · 17/05/2018 18:23

What do you mean ‘top link on google’?
What are you googling?

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 18:26

I just googled mumsnet and at the top of the search is a link and the photo of the blood.

neveradullmoment99 · 17/05/2018 18:28

It says late period then blood clot.
