Influencer ethics on Instagram 2

It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

I'm not sure who CB is, either! Anyone care to elaborate?

EatMyShoes · 17/05/2018 21:13

You can critique an industry without "looking down" on people who work in that industry.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 21:14

Scratch last question, seen it's been answered in the time I took to post! Grin

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 21:16

Martha is let's face it the perfect influencer. She's pretty, her hubby is also pretty, her home is lovely and she has a good eye. Her make up is lovely and I feel like the Martha talking into her phone is the Martha you'd meet in the supermarket. I am not that keen on her unclear gifts and ads , they seem to be referenced in stories if you happen to catch them.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 21:21

Bore, isn't she! She's like country living magazine in human form Smile

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 21:22

Sorry again, Bored not Bore!!

I'm trying to do 2 things at once really unsuccessfully. But I'm really enjoying this thread!

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 21:27
Smile
Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 21:29

I really don't take to CB though. The couple of times I've caught her stories it's just not my cup of tea.

I completely agree, EatMyShoes.

Some/many/most instagrammers are probably perfectly nice people. The industry as a whole is riddled with issues which were summarised really clearly by Bullnoway on the very first page of this thread.

@eatmyshoes of course. But how those that work in the industry engage and present may have a bearing on how they are critiqued. It works both ways.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 22:24

I think they've shown their true colours in response to criticm. I wish badmotherpukka all the very best. Notably she's going back to work. Most of the others - hawkers. Unfollowed Smile

lastnightidreamtofpotatoes · 17/05/2018 22:34

Just saw 'keep it cute or put it on mute' on CB's story. Afraid I have to unfollow.

MadameGrizzly · 17/05/2018 22:36

I watch all their stories on mute (because they aren't that interesting).

Could that be what CB means??

@madamegrizzly I watch most stories on mute too. I'm either in bed or scared what they are going to say. I listened to CB earlier and she swore twice and my kid was in ear shot.
Most of the time I mute and just clean cl through them, if you click through them does it show you as watching them?

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 22:52

Been on Insta ages, but I'm recently new to watching stories. They're strangely addictive. Grin
Should really try uploading one of my own as well as just photos lol

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 22:52

Click through not clean...

David Walliams post this evening made me laugh!!!

Bored - yes, apparently if you watch them, they know. Was surprised to learn that myself, presumed it was like FB as in if you nosy on a feed, it's anonymous!

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 22:55

Yes it does BoredandTired.

NeverWas · 17/05/2018 22:58

lol FlyingBird I did notice it and think it needed a comma, but as you've seen my typing is a debacle Grin

@cady and neverwas annoying! My youngest often manages to leap from YouTube to Instagram and I find my phone just mutely playing stories of people talking into their phones. Another reason for muting. Children.
I don't mind swearing as such but if kids are around I really don't want them to hear people just swearing through my phone? Said youngest has been unwell and I've done a far amount of bed sharing with very high fever, watched more stories than the norm (on mute really what is the point but s good reason to follow FOD as he always captions) and I don't want my child hearing rudeness or swearing.
