It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

BoredandTired did you see the money question, I need to know! Wink

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 17:43

@jamoncrumpets I'm cooking tea but just had to Shock
2) easy on the eye? Is that the general consensus?
I mean he in many ways seems harmless. But attractive as a selling point? He just seems very normal.
And I know many men with 4 plus daughters but instagramming them would just not be on their list of things to do I guess.
So I'd agree, it is novel. The identical twins are definitely a big part of it. But maybe as CadyHeron suggests, there are actually loads of men with accounts with their kids and I just happen to have only stumbled across a couple. I do think the algorithms restrict what you are exposed to.

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 17:47

@marshabradyo I did refer above, I'm not supposed to be on my phone, so I'll retrace my googling in a bit Grin but I'm sure that's what I read. Which kind of made sense as to be that lucrative would explain the sell out.
@flyingbird I do agree that he is consistently creative and actually would be brilliant for marketing/ad perspective if his sole focus was not his kids. Although he is a little heavy on the similes but I suppose that's just his writing style.

SpringSprangSprung · 17/05/2018 17:47

What are the algorithms used - I follow national geographic, my nieces (in their 20s) a couple of trendy New York lifestyle pages and a couple of fashion bloggers (older, more classic than trendy) and I "look at" the usual suspects but only on the back of these threads........... So why is my "front page" littered with face contouring, hair tonging and babies..... all very bizarre!

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2018 17:48

Oh sorry so you did, I’ve got too much going on too Grin

EatMyShoes · 17/05/2018 17:51

Well since I looked at KKs page my recommendations are lots of big bottomed women working out in the gym 😳

PavlovaPrincess · 17/05/2018 17:57

I bloody hate the algorithm. I think your search page brings up similar accounts to those you're following, accounts you've previously looked at but may not have followed (or even unfollowed) and accounts similar to all those as well.

In terms of your photos, apparently it shows your photo to your followers and depending on how many of them like or comment, IG will then put it on the search page (or what used to be the popular page). Depending on interactions, you'll also go to the top of the hashtag page.

It must be quite hard to build up a following if you're just starting out these days. Comments and likes on your pics count for a lot more than they used to.

I still can’t over MOD describing midwifery as selfless? I am also in the same field and would never class a job in which I earn money for, selfless. Just makes me feel that she thinks she is ‘God’s gift to midwifery’ and that we should all be grateful that she is doing it....

@FlyingBird I'm sure you are right!

MarshaBradyo · 17/05/2018 18:03

Babaloo completely agree re selfless. Missed that - probably a good thing!

Moonkissedlegs · 17/05/2018 18:11

2) easy on the eye? Is that the general consensus?

Simon is kind of 'fit, but in a normal person sort of way'. A bit like Clemmie really. They are a nice looking couple and go very well together in that way Smile

Moonkissedlegs · 17/05/2018 18:12

And their kids are beautiful which I guess helps with the old 'followers' thing!

jamoncrumpets · 17/05/2018 18:13

When I said FOD was easy on the eye I meant exactly that, he's no Adonis. But if he was your boss and you were on work experience you might fancy him a tiny bit among the sea of Nigels and Ians in the office.

Babaloo88 · 17/05/2018 18:16

@marshabradyo I’m not sure if it was in this thread or the previous one. But her comment on how she and Simon basically ‘deserve’ this insta fame because they work ‘hard’. And that they don’t earn THAT much from it all as they stil have to do their normal
Jobs. It’s just smells of self righteousness.

Moonkissedlegs · 17/05/2018 18:17

Yes exactly Jamon. If he worked in your office you might be like 👀

Moonkissedlegs · 17/05/2018 18:19

That emoji doesn't come across well when I actually post it - it's supposed to be a pair of eyes looking at FOD's 'easy on the eye but no Adonis' face, not a pair of tits!

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 17/05/2018 18:20

@WipsGlitter yes I follow her. I think she and her hubby seem like such nice people but I agree, she doesn't seem to be doing much "fashion" work for instagram unless you can't turning up looking amazing, heading to a fitness class with all, eating an amazing lunch and amazing dinner and being driven/flown everywhere. I really admired her when she was at Lucky magazine and do still like her, but something's definitely changed. Her stories are posted literally every 10 mins and she doesn't seem to be working at all.

CadyHeron · 17/05/2018 18:21

The amount of content they post, I think they have a point if they say they work hard.
Thinking up content, then creating the content, editing etc - not as easy as some like to think of "just point the camera, take a selfie and that's it."
If they work hard at it, why shouldn't they reap any benefits?

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 17/05/2018 18:23

Count** !

WipsGlitter · 17/05/2018 18:27

@ASongOfRiceAndPeas it's nice seeing motherhood in a different country too. I like seeing what she's made her daughter for lunch everyday.

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 17/05/2018 18:29

@FlyingBird she issued a back-handed apology. Cue her followers with the "don't listen to the haters hun". Ughhh.

ASongOfRiceAndPeas · 17/05/2018 18:30

@WipsGlitter me too! Her kids are crazy cute.

Boredandtired · 17/05/2018 18:36

@jam and @moon ok I can get that. He has a charm when he's not in a kind of brother/cousin mode. I think I prefer someone a bit more exciting (naughty) BUT obviously I'm only seeing a 'dad' persona!!!
When I followed David Furnish my promoted content was all very buff, half naked gay men, which was quite surprising but not necessarily bad Grin right now I've never seen so many newborn twins in my life!
@cadyheron -did you see above, a list of men would be good. I think Father Of Daughters does put a lot of hours in, Mother of Daughters certainly puts the networking hours in, but not sure that entitles an account to be dismissive and arrogant or encourage upset amongst followers. Talking into your phone is hardly work. A blog, yes, a long post with staged photo, I can see it is, but attending meets and dos, it doesn't make you better than others.
