Influencer ethics on Instagram 2

It appears we haven't quite finished workshopping the ethical issues of 'influencing' on Instagram: disclose of advertising, the exploitation of minors and the similarities to MLM schemes.

What happened to cigarettes and calpol?

TheLadyhasarrived · 16/05/2018 21:28

When someone actually had a mental health crisis on IG they were cast out and pictures posted laughing about them. that was the reality of mental health, not particularly instaworthy

jamoncrumpets · 16/05/2018 21:32

As much as I'd like to discuss this further, I've been having Braxton Hicks all evening and am taking myself up to bed. I may have allowed myself one of my coveted SPD codeine tablets to ensure a slightly more comfortable night.

MadameGrizzly · 16/05/2018 21:37

It would be all sorts of awkward if you are actually DLAM, jamoncrumpets. Wink

@jamoncrumpets sadly that's not true and that's where these vultures swoop. The first time I had the guts to present to gp with something wrong he gave me a 32 page print out on depression. When I plucked up the courage 6 months later to see another gp, she referred me for therapy but an appt never arrived. Luckily I didn't drive into the wall that tempted me everyday for 2 years but it's no thanks to gp or NHS. Having been through that I'm better at recognising the signs. But people who are let down and self diagnose may turn to these life coaches as they may feel they've been there.

400 followers for DLAM's shoes? They are nice shoes but so expensive! I stopped following that one a while ago as her feed is so sketchy and she's a dreadful blagger!

jamoncrumpets · 16/05/2018 21:44

I'm too fat to be DLAM. Her boob tubes wouldn't even go over my thighs.

Reboot · 16/05/2018 21:45

I'm sure it would be cheaper to just buy 400 followers than a pair of DLAM trainers.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 21:47

Sorry to 'promote' anything on here but I bought Air and Grace shoes (who make DLAM's collab) and they are the best shoes I have ever owned. And I bought them on the recommendation of Sarah Mostly blogger. It's not all bad over there folks.

jamoncrumpets · 16/05/2018 21:48

Omg those shoes are nearly £200. That's a generous fortnight's food budget in our house.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 21:51

Same here Jam. I'm not a w*nker I promise. That was my actual bonus one year. I'm not a hedgefunder Grin

Hope you'll be comfortable this evening.

Boredandtired · 16/05/2018 21:56

@neverwas her shoes were why I followed originally as they look lovely! Just her breaks/holidays/cars nonsense turned me off.
FOD's post this evening is so irritating. Everyone knows kids argue over bloody trampoline time. You have to time 'goes'. And is it me or is he unbelievably sexist? It's not just 'girls'. He makes out parenting 4 girls is so hard, yet it's utter tripe. He uses them for his account, refuses to take down a picture his wife is unhappy with, is sexist, plays on being overwhelmed. I personally beleive kids are kids and all this parenting girls or boys is a bit irritating, I personally find each child is very different regardless of gender and he seems to be so camp it must suit him well.

Boredandtired · 16/05/2018 21:58

I have to admit I bought £59 Saltwater sandals after Jools Oliver wore them on Instagram 5 years ago... I got 20% off, but I've worn them for 4 years!! All summer. They won't last this year but I actually think that's really good value!! However at the time it was a lot of money and I felt really indulgent!

LavenderFlannel · 16/05/2018 21:59

I saw earlier that Laura Hesketh (the person screenshotted earlier upthread) has posted an interesting couple of stories. Sorry Anya, you'll have to unblock her I guess if you want to see them as well.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 21:59

Bored and Tired it's hard to resist a good shoe. DLAM doesn't do it for me.

As for FOD. I blocked him too. And my IG is all the better for it.

BeansandSausages · 16/05/2018 22:00

Jamon, hope you're ok and the Braxton Hicks aren't too bad.

NB's husband's page is mildly amusing and a bit sad at the same time.

We've covered child safety a bit here, I think another interesting angle is whether children of insta'stars' often take back seats to phones, or shoots etc. Mum/dad is on their phone again, posing, or mum/dad is asking me to do another pose etc. That would give some long term mh issues I'd have thought, being a lower priority, unless handled well.

Now I'm sure we all do this to a degree and I often look at work things when I should be with the kids, and feel awful for it. Mine certainly let me know if they want me to stop. I wonder how an influencer balances this as they can't do everything when the dc are in bed but I would assume those who do promote mental wellbeing must factor this in somehow.

NeverWas · 16/05/2018 22:01

Lavender Flannel? You are an actual person?

BeansandSausages · 16/05/2018 22:07

Laura Hesketh just gained a follower. Not for the stories, but she seems my cup of tea!

Respect for the lady on the last thread too with the mad house as she was very mature and measured in her responses.

Boredandtired · 16/05/2018 22:08

jamoncrumpets and flying bird, a dd with ASD here and ds with ASD and ADHD.

MadameGrizzly · 16/05/2018 22:10

Jesus. I just had a look at Laura Hesketh's stories. 😳
