If the gift was dreadful? And we're no contact and I'd like to believe the gift was a horrible joke but no- it was "sincere"

Off point, but is it wrong to really want some of that cake?

FreshJeffhasleft · 14/05/2018 18:26

Shit presents- definitely not unreasonable to chuck them.

I don't understand the whole totally cutting family members from your lives thing really unless people are truly dreadful (i.e. aggressive/violent/unkind) though. Also it tends to be in-laws rather than parents- puts OHs in really awkward positions.

DH is the one who cut his DM out of his life. This was years after it started when she told everyone she was dying of cancer when she wasn’t. She lies pathologically, to dangerous levels. She says cutting things to grandchildren and openly favours some whilst making it clear others are not as favoured. I suppose that all comes under the ‘unkind’ banner but it isn’t always IL’s that are cut off and it’s often years of small toxic behaviour rather than violent or aggressive single acts.

Ayla yes they are very unkind, deluded and frankly dangerous around children- reason enough for NC- it's very damaging for children to be around such manipulative people, so you may not be able to understand it and why people would choose to go NC which makes me think you've not had to put up with such dreadful treatment and I'm glad about that.

Think cake has been shared, rusty compass was probably a priceless heirloom and the cds were to show him they do think of him when they get their newspaper. Still crap though. Would have kept them to show dh and let him throw them out.

That makes sense OP and now having looked at the half-eaten cake I really do think they must be mentally unstable and not the kind of grandparents that you want around your kids!

FreshJeffhasleft · 16/05/2018 11:06

I’m really not sure they have mental health issues

Can people just be nasty and manipulative?

Just a thought.

Yes, and so used to everyone caving to their orders that they don’t even realise it. They probably think the gifts are a clever way to send a message of displeasure. Of course no real thought or understanding about the effect. They’re right after all. Always.
