Yummy

OP posts:
angryburd · 14/05/2018 15:19

When people say "weary" instead of "wary"...

woodhill · 14/05/2018 15:22

Prefer hoover to sweep up which sounds so old fashioned

Pop annoys me - make your eyes pop

When people say "weary" instead of "wary"..."

Oh god they're the worst, aren't they?

Always feel like replying 'oh, you felt tired about it?'

ThistleAmore · 14/05/2018 19:03

@TomRavenscroft

You have my sympathy, but I actually quite like these...I dunno what they're called, I know a 'mondegreen' is a misheard lyric, does the same apply to [basically, just wrong] figures of speech?

I.e., something that goes off poorly is a 'damp squid', idolising somebody is to 'put them on a pedal stool'.

I'm a fan. :D

(Although 'chester drawers' can get in the sea.)

littlepill · 14/05/2018 19:20

For some reason the words 'foot' and 'rub' in the same sentence make me feel nauseous.

harajukubabe · 14/05/2018 19:48

GirlsBlouse17 · 14/05/2018 19:58

People saying OMG . I don't mind it being texted or included in an email etc , but I hate people saying it verbally

TomRavenscroft · 15/05/2018 11:30

Thistle, yes, in everyday life they're quite funny; it's just when I'm working with so-called editorial professionals who really should know better that it pees me off!

I think they're malapropisms? Adam Buxton in his podcasts/radio shows has a feature on them and calls them eggcorns after what one of the listeners thought an acorn was called.

I do like 'damp squid' Grin
I don't even mind 'chester drawers'

Poudrenez · 15/05/2018 11:45

Tummy (for an adult)

Skiiltan · 15/05/2018 12:29

Tummy (for an adult)

I've commented on this already. It's difficult to see what the alternative to tummy would be. I get annoyed by people referring to their whole abdomen - and especially the surface - as their "stomach". Your stomach is on the inside, and it's up in the top left-hand corner, just under your ribs.

SayNoToCarrots · 15/05/2018 12:35

Tummy is short for stomach though, Skiiltan. Maybe belly is a more accurate word? More accurate, but also hideous

pilotswife · 15/05/2018 12:38

Hubby
Dump
Wifey
Hun
Moist

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 15/05/2018 14:04

Interweb, or worse, t'interweb.

MintChocChip04 · 15/05/2018 14:08

woodhill I've never heard of to sweep up, unless someone is referring to sweeping a floor with a broom. What is wrong with just doing the vacuuming? That's what everyone else says where I am from. We talk about the carpets need vacuuming/I vacuumed yesterday, etc.

DameLillyTillicut · 15/05/2018 14:39

I'm quite reasonable when it comes to words, until DH says "Front bottom" Envy, or even worse, "Lady fucking Garden".EnvyAngry

I do not shit out of my vagina or hang bird feeders off of my mons pubis THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

TomRavenscroft · 15/05/2018 15:01

I think when people say stomach, one generally understands that they mean the whole abdominal area.

LMG132028 · 15/05/2018 15:56

I've noticed a lot lately on Instagram people are saying 'finna' instead of 'gonna' (gonna is bad enough, its GOING TO) but finna?? Am I reading it totally wrong?

A friend of mine will finish a phone conversation with 'Bye doll' or 'Thanks doll'. Hate it!!

TomRavenscroft · 15/05/2018 16:00

'doll' in that context is very Glaswegian. Is your friend from Glasgow?

Stillblundering · 15/05/2018 21:53

Gunt
Wine o'clock
Also I get irritated by "this one" on social media smug photos

littlegecko · 15/05/2018 21:58

"Cheeky" as in "just having a cheeky vodka" or a "Cheeky nap" - makes me absolutely cringe (in the context of a "cheeky face" or "Cheeky fucker" it's fine).
