Do I really need to be preened, plucked, waxed and sprayed for my wedding?

I am getting married in October this year.

I have my sister as my maid of honour and we are very similar, not very girly, dress for comfort etc.

Now it's a bit closer and I am planning what make up to wear and hair to have done people keep suggesting all these beauty treatments for th big day.

  • Waxing (not just my legs but my armpits and privates)
  • Make Up by an Make Up Artist
- Hair by a hairdresser
  • Spray tan
  • Manicure
  • Pedicure

Now I was planning on doing my own make up and hair and having my finger nails done but none of the other stuff.

AIBU or do people expect this as being the bride? I don't want fake tan on my dress or to look like a different person!

I feel like I'll look like a fat version of Miss Congeniality when she walks out of the warehouse after they have "beautified" her within an inch of her life!!!!!

My daughter is getting married this year and a friend has held forth to me that I, as MOB, will absolutely have to have to have my make up done professionally ( and start wearing contacts again to get the full effect) will have to have my hair done in the morning, have a full spa day in the week before , all so that I look special and standout as MOB in the photos. I told her to politely stroll on as I am a sentient adult with appropriate social skills and nuance, know how to dress for an occasion, will put on a little makeup and do my well cut hair myself, and keep my glasses on so that I can see without suffering from dry eyes halfway through the day. It’s a major family occasion not a photo opportunity.

I got my make up and hair done, but for me it was like a pampering experience I've wanted to do before but usually don't go anywhere fancy enough to justify it. Probably a lot if people feel this way so I don't think it's rude of your friends to ask. They aren't implying you are a hideous troll who needs it.

I hinted that DH might get a back sack and wax pre wedding as I thought it would look nice. He said no way! But agreed to a shave. Fair enough but too bad Grin

I get my full body waxed every month so that's a must for me. Hair and make up yes as I want my photos to look good. Mani and pedi doesn't take long and looks cleaner. Spray tan I've never tanned so wouldn't be able to actually comment. My wedding is in August and am also going to be getting my lips done (braces have come off last week) and my face lasered for a few treatments so that it's smooth without bumps when my makeup is put on. Think it's up to you how much you want to do. For me I want to look the very best as I can because let's face it we grow older every day.

I didn't bother getting waxed etc. I had someone to do my hair and make-up and actually regretted it completely. I could have done my own make up so much better. Hair yes. I can never get my hair right. But I genuinely think I could have done a better job on my own make up. She was a professional but just could not get it right. Biggest waste of money ever. Do it your own way. Nobody is even going to notice if you are hair free or not. Do start a good facial care routine though. For the months leading up the the wedding I made an effort to remove my make up the night before, moistrurise and use under eye cream. It made a big difference.

I would do all of it apart from the fake tan, but that's personal preference! I would definitely have a makeup/hair trial in advance though, to make sure I was happy. Just ask for very natural look make up, don't forget a good make up artist makes you look great without looking like you're wearing make up. You might find it's relaxing to know it's all in hand on the day. I think it's nice to feel a bit special on your big day, but do what ever your comfortable with, no harm in seeing what it looks like though.

Go as a polished version of yourself: hair and nails done, natural makeup. Hair done by a pro if you want. No need for waxing and fake tans, unless that’s your thang.

For my wedding I had my nails done,my hair done(2 close friends who are hairdressers did it for me)I did my own make up and gave myself a pedicure and I'm always hair free(to a degree)I don't use fake tan.
