How on earth do you get your glass shower screen clean?

I just can’t get it clean. Tried Ciilit bang, shower shine and even toothpaste as I heard if you smear it on the screen it cleans off to reveal clean and shiny screens. But, no. Any other tips?

I use the Mr muscle spray. Cillit bang was crap.

ohlittlepea · 10/05/2018 14:27

The purple and orange cillit bang works fab on ours scouring pad rub it on and polish it off.

DragonsAndCakes · 10/05/2018 14:28

Just keep scrubbing with a green sponge. Squeegee it daily to keep it that way.

BlueJava · 10/05/2018 14:28

Do you live in a hard water area so it's limescale? If so Viakal - spray is on, leave it for a bit and then spongetex/similar to scrub it.

ghostyslovesheets · 10/05/2018 14:28

Viakal spray - smells vile but gets the marks off

Jozxyqk · 10/05/2018 14:29

Method daily spray. Leave it on for a moment, then give it a quick wipe with a sponge & rinse off with the shower. I don't actually do it every day though... slattern

PinkHeart5914 · 10/05/2018 14:29

Mr muscle bathroom spray & a sponge, once a week. My shower glass is shiny

Pibplob · 10/05/2018 14:29

I’m in the south east. I think it is a hard water area. Haven’t tried a scouting pad. May try that with Cillit bang first. Then the other suggestions. Thanks.

Viakal which I rub in, leave for 5 mins then rinse with the shower.
Then use one of those window squeegee things to dry it

I also spray the shower cleaning stuff after I use it to minimise water marks. DD doesn't, hence I have to do the above!

Saisong · 10/05/2018 14:31

Very hard to remove once ingrained. We got a new screen last year and I have been obsessive about using a squeegee and then a microfiber cloth on it every time after showering. It still looks pristine. I think that's the only way.

maamalady · 10/05/2018 14:32

I find the ecover limescale spray is much more effective than viakal - smells better too! And yes, squeegee every time you use it.

hula008 · 10/05/2018 14:33

I’m in the south east and we used a random green one from Tesco last year and that was it! Holy grail of shower screen cleaning. We moved and now use a squeegee every time and you do get some water marks but get in there early as you can just use shower cleaner.

Don’t use a scourer- you’ll just scratch the screen.

Fidgetwonkam · 10/05/2018 14:35

Quick wash with any old shower gel every day or so and rinse keeps it clean. I use glass cleaner and paper towel to make it shine.

FooFighter99 · 10/05/2018 14:35

Astonish Mould & Mildew spray - spray it all over and leave overnight - fecking marvellous stuff!!! It's bleach though so it will stain if it gets on anything material (I have bleach marks on my bath mat, but they're worth it!)

Idontknowwhatithink · 10/05/2018 14:36

Floor wipes! Buy a packet of floor wipes (the bigger/thicker version of surface wipes) they work a treat!

Ohyesiam · 10/05/2018 14:37

Once you have it clean make everyone who shower use the squeeze.

SomebodysNotInBedYet · 10/05/2018 14:39

Cif cream and a scourer Smile

MyFamilyAndOtherAnimals1 · 10/05/2018 14:39

Noo don't use wipes - they're so bad!
A reallly good cleaner, and a really nice one is 'Method' 'bathroom/glass cleaner' - I think you can get it in Tescos and other major supermarkets. It's eco friendly, smells awesome, cleans glass beautifully and leaves no smears.

BMW6 · 10/05/2018 14:39

OP I am also in a hard water area and have a red-hot tip for you.......

lemon juice

Apply undiluted with a sponge and leave for a half hour then buff with a towel due for a wash. The acid in the lemon will dissolve the limescale.
Then spray with shower shine after every use (I have not found any significant differences between brands).

If it does build up again just reapply some lemon juice again

Scarzo · 10/05/2018 14:39

Is the glass cloudy looking? I have read that sometimes the cleaning products you use can cause tiny holes in the glass, which makes it look like there is a cloudy layer over it. Apparently if you wipe almond oil over the glass it will fill up the holes and the glass will be clear again.

However, for soap or limescale build-up you could try white vinegar and bicarb.

BMW6 · 10/05/2018 14:41

Vinegar dissolves limescale too but smells awful.

Cosmos45 · 10/05/2018 14:42

Once it is clean use a Karcher window vacuum. I had 2 new showers put in a few years ago and they still look new. About every 2-3 showers I clean with Method bathroom spray and dry with Karcher. Occasionally polish with a microfibre cloth. Getting the water off with a squeegee or window vacuum is the only way to keep it nice once it's cleaned.

kaytee87 · 10/05/2018 14:43

I just use glass cleaner. We don't have limescale here though.

AlfredDaButtler · 10/05/2018 14:43

White vinegar. Your bathroom will smell like vinegar for a wee while, but worth it.

NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 10/05/2018 14:54

We spray the shower with waitrose daily shower spray every time we use it find squeegee it off each time. However there's always a little line of timescale at the bottom so every week I give that a scrub with a damp brillo pad. I thought it would scratch it but a cleaner friend of mine told me that tip and it works.
Every week I clean the screen with glass cleaner then buff it with damp newspaper, works a treat.
My daughter's rental had a minging shower screen and I scrubbed all over it with a brillo pad, came out perfect.
