How on earth do you get your glass shower screen clean?

I just can’t get it clean. Tried Ciilit bang, shower shine and even toothpaste as I heard if you smear it on the screen it cleans off to reveal clean and shiny screens. But, no. Any other tips?

My DM swears by a car cleaning/polishing product. Clean glass, apply product. Then the water ‘beads’ off. Lasts for a fair while before you need to repeat. Try Halfords???

Another vote for Viakal. Also in SE in very hard water area

xyzandabc · 10/05/2018 16:23

Viakal. Spray, leave for a while, wipe with the scouring side of a washing up sponge, rinse then dry with an e-cloth.

After every shower, use a small squeegee to dry off the screen so limescale can't build up so quickly.

needtogiveitablow · 10/05/2018 16:26

Jif and a scouring pad - works a treat!

SamHeughansLeftEyebrow · 10/05/2018 16:26

Viakal (also SE). Use it on taps, basins, shower screens. Pretty much everywhere except my granite worktop which I cannot get clean.

And a squeegee for daily use.

We also have a water softener, which helps.

Proseccoagain · 10/05/2018 16:30

Every other day I spray with a limescale remover, then use sponge scourer. Rinse off with clean water, I do the shower tiles the same way. Takes about 30 seconds if you do it while you're actually having a shower.

MinaPaws · 10/05/2018 16:31

Limeliet limescale remover. Spray on thickly. Leave the room. Come back 2 mins later (with gloves, goggles, mask) and scrub it with one of those net massage things. Rinse. Rub dry with a clean teatowel then either clean again with glass cleaner or spray with one of those anti limescale glass sprays. It's a horrible job which is why I only do it properly twice a year but it does make hard water area shower screen look like new.

I hate hard water. It makes rubbish tea and wrecks appliances.

MinaPaws · 10/05/2018 16:32

That should say Limelite not liet.

MyGuideJools · 10/05/2018 16:33

I'm in a hard water area and I can assure you vinegar or lemon juice won't cut it!
I use Lidl liquid limescale remover on a sponge and rinse it off. I do all the taps tiles etc. I still do it twice a week to keep on top of it. hard water is a nightmare.

ayedidye · 10/05/2018 17:03

Fairy liquid that I use for the dishes then karcher to shine.

Suppose it's just build up of grease and oil and the fairy cuts right through it.

SabineUndine · 10/05/2018 17:05

Vinegar. Cheap and easy.

Nikephorus · 10/05/2018 17:05

I swear I've tried every product and tip known to mankind. Nothing worked. Gave up & stuck some film on the outside of the screen instead - can't see the marks now Grin

Cheeseandapple · 10/05/2018 17:08

Another one for viakal. I'm in a very hard water area but it gets the glass shiny with minimal effort.

Teaonthelawn · 10/05/2018 17:14

Johnsons baby shampoo as recommended on MN. Works and smells lovely.

DearTeddyRobinson · 10/05/2018 17:22

Oh god don't use the scourer!! You will scratch the glass! LimeLite and microfibre cloth, then squeegee every time you use

DearTeddyRobinson · 10/05/2018 17:24

(London here so very hard water)

Juiceylucy09 · 10/05/2018 18:15

I give it a good scrub with hot soapy water, some vinegar and a good rinse. It really shines.

I usually use the hose on the steamer for the base awkward parts.

TheLastNigel · 10/05/2018 18:21

Viakal comes in Febreze scent now and it's alright. I use that (spray It on whilst I'm actually in the shower, leave for five minutes, rinse when I'm done and then I go over the screen with a shower squeegee thingy religiously) (Also in the south east and I swear our water is basically liquid chalk).

TheLastNigel · 10/05/2018 18:23

You can get a cracking shower/window cleaner from wilkos just now, which has a rubber side, a microfibre side and the handle is a spray bottle so you can put your cleaning product in it... all for a fiver...it's got it all-(I may be a bit over pleased with it Grin)

starkid · 10/05/2018 18:24

My screen and also taps were awful (hard water) - Viakal. I just sprayed it on, wandered off, then came back and wiped it off. Job done!

Butterflysprinkles · 10/05/2018 18:26

Cif for me here. Only thing that's ever worked and I've tried loads!

Praisebe · 10/05/2018 18:26

Karcher window vac !! Do not use viakal its vile breathed in and does nothing

Gottagetmoving · 10/05/2018 18:27

I just spray one of those daily shower sprays over the glass after every shower. You just spray and leave it. Sainsbury own brand is 80p. I only have to do a proper clean once every couple of weeks.

BonjourMinou · 10/05/2018 18:30

Viakal. It's amazing! I had the same problem and tried so many things before viakal after reading about it on a mn thread. Spray, wipe then rinse off with shower. Works a treat.
