How on earth do you get your glass shower screen clean?

I just can’t get it clean. Tried Ciilit bang, shower shine and even toothpaste as I heard if you smear it on the screen it cleans off to reveal clean and shiny screens. But, no. Any other tips?

Ecover limescale spray!!

Jozxyqk · 10/05/2018 15:00

Ah - sorry I live in an area where the water is extremely soft. You could all bring your kettles etc & the limescale would be removed! Method would probably not help in that case. If it's limescale, then you need an acid - vinegar or lemon juice are cheap & not harmful to the environment or anyone who'll be using the bathroom.

Onesmallstepforaman · 10/05/2018 15:01

I use the method daily kitchen cleaner on mine, does a good job, smells nice and doesn't kill your throat like that cillit stuff.

agee86 · 10/05/2018 15:04

I second white vinegar.

I put it in an old squirty bottle, spray on and leave for a while, rub the glass down with a scratch free pad and rinse.

The smell does linger for a little while, but your glass will be clear and sparkly :)

All that cleaning ShockShock.
Our water is so hard a kettle is scaled up in a day.
I buy cheap white vinegar and soak cloths around taps etc but nothing in this house gets done often enough.

KinkyAfro · 10/05/2018 15:06

I use a bit of our soap on old exfoliating gloves and give the door a wipe after a couple of showers...does the trick

readyforapummelling · 10/05/2018 15:06

I use this stuff called Showroom Shine on all my glass and it's fabulous!!! It also prevents the mirror/shower screen from steaming up its fab.

readyforapummelling · 10/05/2018 15:07

Can I just add it is for use on cars but I experimented on a mirror and never looked back.

Barkeepers Friend to clean. Method spray and squeegee to maintain.

Grasslands · 10/05/2018 15:16

Car, yes automobile, window wash solution. Cheap comes in a huge jug. works great.

bellabasset · 10/05/2018 15:18

I use the Waitrose or Tesco shower ones that you spray on before you shower, also use white vinegar when doing a more thorough clean.

My dsis in London uses a karcher window vac. Her screen isn't as clean as mine but I live in a soft water area.

notgivinga · 10/05/2018 15:25

Zaflora and water mixed in a left over trigger bottle and kitchen rolls works a dream.

picklemepopcorn · 10/05/2018 15:40

Flash and a nail brush. Spray it on, scrub with the brush, rinse it off.

rememberthetime · 10/05/2018 15:42

To whoever said lemon juice... You're a genius. Just tried it. Worked incredibly well. Just a few minor marks still. Plus it smells amazing.

Might buy lemon juice rather than actual lemons though as the pulp sticks!

Takeoutyourhen · 10/05/2018 15:42

Hard water here too. I've just cleaned my shower screen using Astonish tile and window spray which contains vinegar. Not dazzling but seems to work unless you scrutinise it. Use a squeegee too.
It's not one of my top bathroom problems though. That would be the sodding paint cracking from a whiff of condensation!

Excited101 · 10/05/2018 15:44

I had to use viakal initially and now I squeegee it every time I’ve showered. It’s suckered on to the screen so I don’t forget and it’s brilliant. Takes about 15 seconds.

ginghamstarfish · 10/05/2018 15:58

I make a paste of white vinegar, bicarb and washing up liquid. Scrub it with a scrubby washing up type sponge then rinse. Use Rain-x after it's dry and it will keep clean for longer. I do this every 6 months or so

2rebecca · 10/05/2018 16:03

Mine doesn't get that dirty. After showering the tiling and screen are wiped down with one of those window cleaners rubber blade things and I use an old chamois swim towel round the bath/wall connection to clear water there and stop mould. Every few weeks the bathroom is cleaned and I use a cream bathroom cleaner Jif type stuff on glass and other surfaces and shower off. Mouldy bits get dilute bleach a couple of times a year. I think wiping after using is the important thing. We're also no limescale (can never remember if that's hard or soft water, never seems logical water is never hard or soft just wet)

Pibplob · 10/05/2018 16:09

Tempted to go and try the lemon juice. I have some jig lemon left over from pancake day somewhere......

Extremely hard water here. Black harpic works a treat but it's strong. Wear gloves & rub it into the glass with a sponge. Leave it sit & rinse off. Like new. Make sure you open a window. It's strong stuff.

Smeddum · 10/05/2018 16:10

God reading this I’m so grateful we live in a soft water area! I use windolene (the pink cream) every couple of days.

rosieposies · 10/05/2018 16:11

@op in the South East too - I use Limelite, it's great.

macaronip1e · 10/05/2018 16:14

Viakal Viakal Viakal!!! Only thing I’ve found that works on ours (also SE)

bonzo77 · 10/05/2018 16:15

Coat dry screen liberally with lime-scale removing toilet cleaner. Leave for at long as possible. Rinse then wipe. My old cleaner showed me this trick. In future use a squeegee after each shower to prevent the limescale returning. I’m in the SE and have a lovely shower screen due to squeegeeing.
