To not know when to move to a duvet and pillow???

When did your child get a pillow, and a duvet (or sheets?)

Dc (22months) has a grobag and cotbed, but I think would be better suited to a pillow and duvet? But, there's no sodding manual for this stuff!

Aibu to think that I haven't got the foggiest when to know when the time is now? Lol 🤔😂

Im the same. 21 months and still using a gro bag. Be interested to know what others say

stellenbosch · 09/05/2018 21:37

Thank goodness it's not just me!

Oh yes, think mine was about 3 when I gave him a pillow Blush

welshweasel · 09/05/2018 21:38

When you move them out of the cot? Mine is 28 months and still in grobag and cot. Suspect if he wasn’t in the grobag he’d be climbing out of the cot!!

dementedpixie · 09/05/2018 21:38

They're ok from 1 year. My ds had a pillow from then but stayed in a grobag until 2 and a half at which point he went into a big bed

kitkatsky · 09/05/2018 21:38

I gave DD a pillow and duvet when she went into a bed at 2.5

BendingSpoons · 09/05/2018 21:40

DD is 25months. She loves her sleeping bag so not planning on switching yet. I was thinking a duvet when we take the cot sides off and a pillow then or before if she asks. She doesn't sleep still yet!

Mummy2one2016 · 09/05/2018 21:40

My lb is just over 2 (27months) and has only had a duvet and pillow for around 1 month. We tied it in with taking one side of the cot. He is doing very well thankfully. I don't think there is any set time to do it, im are the last of my mum friends to do it.

stellenbosch · 09/05/2018 21:42

She doesn't sleep through - I secretly think it's because the grobag stops her farting in her sleep (can't wriggle enough!) but she's definitely not ready for a bed! Sigh

About one when I realised DD would sleep for much longer in my bed than her own.

If you take the plunge, dunelm have some gorgeous cot bed size covers. I got new bedding for both my kids this weekend :)

dinodiva · 09/05/2018 21:45

We made the change just before DD was 2 (she was in the cot). More based on the time of year than anything else - thought if she kicked it off it would be less of a hassle than in the middle of winter because she wouldn’t get cold. It took a while for her to get the hang of it but I don’t think it was too bad.

Littlecaf · 09/05/2018 21:46

Erm at 13months. Both hated gro bags so were in tucked in blankets until then.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 09/05/2018 21:47

My DD is 21 months and we changed to a duvet and pillow in her cot about a month ago when it stopped being so cold at night. She's absolutely fine, loves the pillow, and seems to have helped her stay more still (although not still enough to remove a side of the cot...) we went straight for a toddler duvet which is huge, but have it sideways in with one half under the mattress, so it's stuck down one side of the mattress, and stuck under st the end. It's worked well for us.

dinodiva · 09/05/2018 21:47

Gawd - we made the change in the summer. I’m 3 days overdue with DC2 and have brain rot.

adagio · 09/05/2018 21:47

My second has had a pillow from about 10 months - as soon as she could crawl she was always trying to get in her big sisters bed, prefers it for naps etc. She’s two now and still wants her sisters bed 😂.

The official guidance is to provide a pillow when you notice them improvising with their arm/toys/blanket/stuff. Official duvet guidance is must be at least age 1. My two run cold so often had duvet or blankets plus grobag in the colder months, ditched the bag when it seemed to annoy them (but had to use two duvets to make up for it). Why not try it for a night and see if they like it?

coffeeneeded · 09/05/2018 21:49

Ooooh. My twins have just turned two and I have changed them from grobags to duvets and pillows, simply because I didn't want to buy another tog of grobag!!! They are still in their cots- mothercare do a good package of cot bed sized pillow and duvets.

I'm not sure if it's linked- and I'm pretty sure I'm going to jinx it now- but their sleep has improved TONS since I did it! Maybe they feel cosier and have less room to wriggle about in?? I used to go in at least twice during the night to find lost dummies or just settle them down- now going in at all is a rare occurrence.

Try it! If it doesn't work then you can change back.

lizzlebizzle33 · 09/05/2018 22:00

Hi I'm the same, not sure when/how to make the transition to duvet. Ds is 2.1, loves his gro bag and I think is the only reason he hasn't tried climbing out of his cot bed yet.

StillNoClue · 09/05/2018 22:00

I think officially they need to be out of a cot before they have duvets pillows etc. When ds tried to stand in his grow bags he nearly smashed his face on the cot so we ditched them and he just used to throw baby blankets of. Like actually throw them or thencot Confused

Ds was about 16 months when he got a duvet and pillow. He's in a cot bed so slightly roomier than a standard cot. He's 20 months now and only really started to use the pillow recently. Since we've given him a duvet he actually sleeps through 👍

SarahSiddons · 09/05/2018 22:03

My son is 2.5 and I think we’ll move him to a pillow and duvet soon. I wanted the weather to be warmer so he wouldn’t get cold if he kicks it off. But I don’t know where the duvet and pillow we had for my eldest has gone to though!

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 09/05/2018 22:05

Ds has had a duvet and pillow since the autumn, he was about 18 months. We did it because he hated his grobag so had stopped using one in the spring and as it was getting cooler was obvously chilly with just a blanket. He's still in a cot.

unicornpoopoop · 09/05/2018 22:07

Ikea do a really good small duvet - perfect for cots

hoopdeloop · 09/05/2018 22:07

My DS got a duvet at about 2 because he could unzip his grobag and would wake up with it off in the morning! He is now 3 and only got a pillow a couple of months ago but he has only just moved into a proper bed instead of a cot

flamingofridays · 09/05/2018 22:08

I swapped ds put of grow bag at about 18 months ish I think. Only because he was getting tangled and waking himself up!

Namajesty · 09/05/2018 22:08

6 months when they went from crib to cot, it's really only a big deal if you make it a big deal and if they don't like the pillow they simply won't sleep on it. Although I never used gro bags on mine just sleepsuits and normal pyjamas so may be different if they aren't used to any sort of blankets or teddies in with them.

Mrscog · 09/05/2018 22:09

I popped a full size single duvet and pillow in from 12 months! They used to get all cosy.
