What’s actually wrong with ASDA?

I never knew that it was seen as “low end” until recently, escalated by the merger news. I think they have nice own brand stuff, are good value, and their stores are well presented with lots of variety . I find the George clothing nice as well and it doesn’t rip or bobble as much as some of the other supermarket brand clothes.

Is the view that it’s chavvy a southern thing?

I shop at Asda

Nothing wrong with it

EmpressOfSpartacus · 09/05/2018 20:01

Me too (Londoner). I go there for the stuff I can't get at Aldi, like veggie pesto.

There isn't one near me! It would be great if there was

Mousefunky · 09/05/2018 20:02

I do my food shopping online and have tried Asda a few times over the year. There’s always ridiculous substitutions (such as real chicken in place of quorn once Hmm) and lots of unavailable items. I won’t use them again.

The basic clothing is ok for babies. It’s not to my taste for older kids or for myself.

ChevalierTialys · 09/05/2018 20:03

Love Asda. Can get loads more stuff than from Sainsbury's or Tesco for the same momey. See Also, Lidl, Aldi ❤

Allreadygone · 09/05/2018 20:04

It depends what you are buying of course. I am always a bit suspicious of the 'ready meals'. Otherwise not a huge difference to all the others.

PattiStanger · 09/05/2018 20:04

Where do you live? Why do you think it's called Chavsda?

It's the lowest end of the big ones, I'm surprised anything would think differently

Blizzardagain · 09/05/2018 20:04

I do most of my shopping at Asda. Decent quality and cheap. I love their home stuff too

VioletCharlotte · 09/05/2018 20:05

I live right next to an Asda and shop there all the time. No issues at all with the quality of their stuff. It's not as nicely laid out as Sainsburys or Waitrose, but the prices are far more reasonable.

StopBeingNosey · 09/05/2018 20:05

Why would it be a southern thing? Confused

MidnightAura · 09/05/2018 20:05

I don’t mind Asda . Apart from their meat, I think the quality is really bad and I and never buy any meat from there. My mum and MIL agree.

No problem using it for other things.

Minniemountain · 09/05/2018 20:05

Good variety when you go there. But their substations system for deliveries is crap now they've computerised it.

HateSummer · 09/05/2018 20:05

We live in the south east and have a massive Asda home store in our city that’s always busy. I practically lived in there when my kids were babies and toddlers. We have a grocery store too but it’s a bit further than tesco, so don’t shop there for that reason. I like Tu and George clothing too, the best skinny jeans I have that don’t lose shape at the knee are from George.

Poloshot · 09/05/2018 20:07

Some of the food is poor quality, but then again it's cheap so it's to be expected

Stopitjuststopit2018 · 09/05/2018 20:07

@allreadygone
“I am always a bit suspicious of the 'ready meals”

In what way?

OP posts:
HildaZelda · 09/05/2018 20:07

I don't have an Asda near me, but have an Aldi about 10 minutes away where I do the majority of my shopping.
Some people are just supermarket snobs.

sunshinestorm · 09/05/2018 20:08

I actually really like a lot of the George clothes for kids. I also buy a fair bit of Boden and pricier brands but you can't fault a lot of the stuff in George for quality and value. Multipacks of tops and nice shorts, cute swimwear ect Atm they have lots of t-bar canvas shoes practically the same as Clarks doodles for a fiver.

HateSummer · 09/05/2018 20:08

It's the lowest end of the big ones, I'm surprised anything would think differently

Yet here we all are surprising you even more. Will you explode and die from the surprise overload?

rainbowfudgee · 09/05/2018 20:09

Online shopping with Asda is awful- substitutions are wildy extreme. However I'll pop in store to pick up underwear, PJs and pizzas from the fresh counter. Birthday cakes are fab too and 1/10 of the price of a custom made cake. Who areas if 20 x 4 year olds will demolish it anyway?

rainbowfudgee · 09/05/2018 20:09

Who CARES

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 09/05/2018 20:10

There’s always ridiculous substitutions (such as real chicken in place of quorn once Hmm)

We once got substituted dog food instead of cat food Grin Still use them though because you get more for your money and I'm a cheapskate Wink

ourkidmolly · 09/05/2018 20:10

The meat is the worst on the high street. The fruit and veg pretty rubbish. It's my least favourite supermarket and the quality is poor.

DwangelaForever · 09/05/2018 20:11

I think it's maybe just cause the prices are so cheap. I know I can get a weekly shop far cheaper at Asda, but I hate it so much because the aisles aren't laid out like Tesco's. (I know they're not supposed to but for some reason it really frustrates me and puts me off shopping there)

SneakyGremlins · 09/05/2018 20:11

See this confuses me because my substitutions with ASDA have always been reasonable ones Confused
