This is a dress from my early childhood , my mum passed away recently and I came across it in her belongings.
AIBU to dress my baby in this regardless of gender ?

What do you mean by “gender”? The baby’s gender? You don’t have to inflict rigid gendered ideas of dress on to a child of you don’t want to.

Battleax · 08/05/2018 08:40

(Still can’t see a dress Smile )

Slartybartfast · 08/05/2018 08:41

how old is child?

Storm4star · 08/05/2018 08:43

If your talking about putting a dress on a boy then I just wouldn’t, but that’s just me. It’s entirely up to you.

desperatehousewife101 · 08/05/2018 08:44

@Slartybartfast 5 months young

I don't see a dress but personally wouldn't put a dress on a boy

5 months, that is ok if you like. i put a flowery baby gro on ds at 3 weeks.
are you likely to be going anywhere?

Battleax · 08/05/2018 08:47

“Yr bubz, yr roolz hunni” is the saying, I believe.

whywontteenswearcoats · 08/05/2018 08:49

I think anyone can put their baby in what they like. But before you do, how precious is the dress to you. My mum passed away 3 years ago. She would make a lot of my clothes and also did a few things for my first dc. After she died I found I couldn't use them. I think it was the thought that if they got ripped or spoiled in some other way she was no longer here to fix it. I guess your mum kept that because it was special to her, she loved you in it, it was a gift from someone special, she saved hard to buy you it, whatever. I'd be inclined to keep it as it is. There are lots of crafty people about making toys and quilts etc from items of clothing so that might be another option to you, maybe combine it with something of your mums and something of your dc for a keepsake of 3 generations.

Slartybartfast · 08/05/2018 08:50

very good point, the dress might get ruined,

Idontdowindows · 08/05/2018 08:50

Do you mean the baby's sex? Young boys were dressed in dresses for a very long time. Dresses were normal for all children. I have a family photo of my grgrandparents with their children and people often comment "wow, all girls". No, they were all 5 or under and they all wore dresses, just like their contemporaries.

Dress your child in what you want.

Slartybartfast · 08/05/2018 08:51

yes but 2018 5 month old boys dont wear dresses.

Slartybartfast · 08/05/2018 08:51

they might well have done this in the victorian era

TheHulksPurplePanties · 08/05/2018 08:54

You'll scar him for life to be sure. I remember everything my mother dressed me in at 5 months old. Hmm

ems137 · 08/05/2018 08:57

I wouldn't dress my boy in a dress and I'd think it was very odd if I came across a boy wearing a dress. However, it's up to you. Do what you want.

scrivette · 08/05/2018 09:01

A lot of DS2's clothes were 'girly' but I didn't put him in a dress, although if I had a dress I loved then I might have put him in it for a photo opportunity and then kept him in it but it wouldn't be something I would regularly dress him in.

flapjackfairy · 08/05/2018 09:05

I need to see the dress ... stamps feet !

Don’t dress your little boy in a dress, it’s ridiculous.

ProudPearlClutcher · 08/05/2018 09:08

Yanbu. I don’t expect at 5mo he / she will particularly care either way. I would reiterate what people say about it possibly getting ruined. If it’s precious to you, then you may not want it covered in baby sick or worse Smile!

ProudPearlClutcher · 08/05/2018 09:08

I can’t see it either! Stamps feet and wails Wink

Idontdowindows · 08/05/2018 09:11

yes but 2018 5 month old boys dont wear dresses.

At 5 months anyone not the parent can't even tell if they're boys or girls, so shrug

GinIsIn · 08/05/2018 09:15

Why do you particularly want to dress your baby in this invisible dress?
