I mean, don't get me wrong, I love Alan Rickman. But I recently started playing the new Harry Potter "Mystery at Hogwarts" game and I came to the realization (because I OBVIOUSLY don't have better things to think about) that Snape should only be 23/24 in this game. He should have been 31 at the start of the Potter series, but Rickman was in late 50's. I know life was difficult in the Potterverse but come-on, a 31 year old does not look 50.

I'm sure the reasoning was that they wanted bigger names in the movies to get more of a draw, but surely there were actors in their 30's who could have played the roles?

Yes you’re probably right skorpian, and tom riddle did have a rather heightened sense of self importance even early on. But his accent did feel a little ott even so.

Just imagine the hair purple. Maybe add a pig nose...

I won't hear a word against Alan Rickman. He was a magnificent Snape.

However, if you want a younger alternative, say a couple of decades younger, here he is. (Hopefully this image will upload...)

I loved lupin too. Gary Oldman and kbowing what he's done has now ruined Sirrius for me. As for J Depp don't get me started. I love JK but cannot believe she okd having domestic violence perps in the movies, especially being a survivor herself and having Harry a victim of neglect and abuse himself. Did she not have a say in the casting?

QueenofSerene · 09/05/2018 02:25

I had the biggest crush on Sirius from the books and bawled my eyes out when he died. Safe to say I was very disappointed in casting Gary Oldman and didn’t bat an eyelid when he died in the films.

VirginHoliday · 09/05/2018 02:41

Hey give em a break. They had a rough time when the Dark Lord was kicking off. I'll bet the constant fear and worry aged them a fair bit 😂

SapphireSeptember · 09/05/2018 03:13

I'm sorry (not sorry) but Alan Rickman as Severus Snape was utterly divine, as was Jason Isaacs as Lucius Malfoy. (I got told off for crushing on the former, character old enough to be my father, actor old enough to be my grandfather, and? So what?) Yeah, film Severus was completely different to how I imagine him in the books, but I've always loved the character. (Probably because I see an awful lot of myself in him.)

Ooh, Adam Driver would so work as SS if they do a HP remake, (I quite like him too. Blush )

@Pringlecat Who is that vision of loveliness? Shock

I don't think I'd be able to watch a Marauders era film, I'd end up wanting to throw things at the screen!

And another thing, I thought the lads playing the Weasley twins were really good. And David Tennant turned up, which made me very happy!

Battleax · 09/05/2018 03:32

Gary Oldman has about as much sex appeal as Donald Trump.

ShockShockShock

GO is delicious (and not a wife beater).

TheHulksPurplePanties · 09/05/2018 05:25

Jude Law as Dumbledore is crap, mainly because Jude Law is a knob (see also: Johnny Depp)

Can't even watch the new ones. I loathe Johnny Depp. And Jude Law is equally as cringe-worthy.

but Tom Riddle wanted to distance himself from his - yes, pure blood - but horrible father.

Wasn't Voldemort's father a muggle? His mother was pure-blood but cuckoo.

And yes to Adam Driver as a new Snape. Kylo Ren is basically space Snape anyway.

I think the actress who played Tonks was also in GoT. She played Osha, the Wildling.

sashh · 09/05/2018 05:47

I had a crush on Rickman, too, but when he was the Sheriff of Nottingham in 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves'

If you have not seen it look out for 'Truly, madly, deeply'.

As for GOT, I can cope with the characters being aged a bit, and that although Ned and Catlyn would have been 30s they were middle aged by Tudor ages (yes I know it is not history). but the thinkg that does my head in is the rapid aging of Tomenn and Mayrcella.

When he becomes king Tommen is about 6, he plays with kittens and like his job of using the royal seal.

At the start of the series they were small children then suddenly they are teenagers.

Shadow666 · 09/05/2018 05:54

That’s the problem with children in TV series. They age too quickly. It’s the same with Carl in the Walking Dead. It can’t be helped though.

The Star Wars baddie is a good fit, Weemadarthur.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 09/05/2018 06:12

Gah....not Adam Driver as Snape. He pouts when he acts, makes me highly stabby.

CaveMum · 09/05/2018 06:47

DH refers to Star Wars as “Harry Potter in Space” in his efforts to engage my interest in SW 😂

There are similarities (Luke/Harry, Hermoine/Leia, Ron/Han) but I suppose it's because they all draw back to Arthurian legends.

I haven't watched a full season of GoT but, personally, I can't see anyone else playing Boromir Ned.

WeWere0nABreak · 09/05/2018 07:24

I thought Joanne Rowling had quite a lot to do with the creative vision of the films and she was happy with it? Therefore we should be Grin

I did think snape was v underplayed at first; I'd been picturing the sheriff of Nottingham I guess! But the air of quiet menace grew on me.

Does anyone else long for a proper lily/marauders/snape prequel after the snippets in the books??

WeWere0nABreak · 09/05/2018 07:27

Ha, the potter/Star Wars thing has been done a lot, eg attached summary. Won't work on me; I love HP but can't bear SW

Yes and no. I love the characters, but I'll end up wanting Lilly to hook up with Snape and knowing that won't happen (and what does happen in the end) kind of ruins it for me. Confused

Hagrid is not Obi Won Kenobi, Dumbledore is Obi Won Kenobi.
