TheClaws · 12/05/2018 05:22

I agree cozie re:Trump’s bargaining ability. I believe KJU and NK view the US and Trump as an enemy - and worse still, an enemy they can potentially outwit, as a Trump has so carelessly exposed his weaknesses over the past year for all to exploit as they wish. They want to US to leave the Peninsula and sanctions lifted. Trump may be stupid enough to agree to this, and thus you have a dictator free to do as he wishes with his people, and the so-called peace treaty between SK and NK crumbles. I could be wrong though Smile

Iran

Without Nuclear Deal, U.S. Expects Resurgence in Iranian Cyberattacks
www.nytimes.com/2018/05/11/technology/iranian-hackers-united-states.html

Within 24 hours of Mr. Trump announcing on Tuesday that the United States would leave the deal, researchers at CrowdStrike, the security firm, warned customers that they had seen a “notable” shift in Iranian cyberactivity. Iranian hackers were sending emails containing malware to diplomats who work in the foreign affairs offices of United States allies and employees at telecommunications companies in an attempt to infiltrate their computer systems.

And security researchers discovered that Iranian hackers, most likely in an intelligence-gathering effort, have been quietly probing internet addresses that belong to United States military installations in Europe over the last two months. Those researchers would not publicly discuss the activity because they were still in the process of warning the targets.

And

Some quick thoughts: It looks like #Israel initiated military activity against Syrian regime and Iranian assets in Syria last night in order to take advantage of favorable political situation in aftermath of #Trump's withdrawal from #IranDeal, and also... /2
/2 to draw a red line against #Iran/#Hezbollah moves southward toward #GolanHeights now that regime has completed takeover of most Damascus suburbs, freeing up forces. Yet the Iranians don't seem to be responding, Israeli claims to the contrary - .../3
3/ or at least not with the ferocity that would enable an even stronger Israeli riposte. Moreover, Israel is constrained by #Russia's two principal red lines: Syrian regime preservation, and no harm to Russian assets and personnel..../4
4/ Hence #Netanyahu's visit to Moscow now, while military operations were being prepared: to gauge Putin's acquiescence to Israeli strikes, and understand the limits. Likewise, the #Saudis and #Emiratis seem to be gearing up for an assault on #Hodeida, similarly realizing.../5
/5 that their moment may be now or never. No one knows how this perfect (to them) alignment of Trump, #Bolton and #Pompeo will last. But they, too, face real limits. Militarily, Hodeida port and city may be one proverbial bridge too far without major US military support....6/
/6 And if and when they take Hodeida, they may discover that now they will own #Yemen's humanitarian catastrophe even more than they already have. In sum: the Washington-Tel Aviv-Riyadh-Abu Dhabi alliance.../7
/7 may well have an opportunity to pursue its priority agenda of pushing back against Iran in the #MiddleEast and #Gulf, but they face real constraints, and much will depend on how Iran responds.../8
/8 If the Iranians are wise, as some Israeli security officials intimated, they would not respond militarily but sit back and negotiate with the Europeans to keep the #IranDeal alive until the Trump misadministration is history..../9
/9 But some of the hardliners in Tehran may have different ideas, and instead go for the bait. In that case, my advice to all of you: Hold on to your seats. /END

Back in February, we warned about an externally-driven escalation scenario in Syria. Iran and Israel are playing a game of chicken in seeking to set their red lines. But are their positions reconcilable? Very likely not. Meanwhile, ordinary Syrians suffer.
www.crisisgroup.org/middle-east-north-africa/eastern-mediterranean/syria/182-israel-hizbollah-and-iran-preventing-another-war-syria

I have argued elsewhere that while Russia is just as much part of the problem in Syria as everyone else leaping in from the outside, it could also help de-escalate tensions because of its unique position in relation to Iran, Israel, Hezbollah and Turkey:

Russia

Olga Lautman
@olgaNYC1211
This #TrumpRussia Plot Is So Simple Yet MSM and the Government Are Going In Circles and Misleading The American People!! Why??
Thread

The Russians operate in a very simple way and almost always use the same methods. They offer lots of illegal money and then use blackmail
Trump has had dealings with the Russian mob for over 3 decades. Many Russians laundered money through his properties world wide
By Trump and his family cooperating with mobsters in the US and other countries the Kremlin was able Trump acquire decades of blackmail
It is rumored that a Putin used the same method in Hungary on Orban when he acquired a videotape of Orban cooperating w Mobster Mogilevich
The Russians are cruel and leave few options. In 2006 Ivana Trump stated she had to hire bodyguards because of threats by the Russian mob
Trump because of blackmail or disdain for this country decided to comply with the Russ and over the past decade the plot went into action
The Russians infiltrated all the key agencies and compromised all the key government officials using the same methods.
They laundered money through Super Pacs and as a result were able to collect blackmail on key officials forcing them to comply with Russia
This resulted in the compromised officials being forced to collect blackmail on their peers in order to make them comply
Once Russia had the control of the officials they were able to force them to do The Kremlins bidding. Russia basically operates like the mob
Russia then attacked America using several methods over a long period of time. They used fake media, infiltrated social media
Russia also used WikiLeaks and hacking of the machines to complete their operation. Russia studied Americans and found their weaknesses
Russ then used the weaknesses to cause a maj divide amongst Americans. This is all part of the Russian playbook and has been used many times
Back to Trump! With Trump working with the Kremlin he made sure to assemble his team with Russian agents in order to pull off this plot
It is not a coincidence that revelations are coming to light of the whole Trump team either working with Russia or having past dealings
Trump,Manafort,Page,Sessions, Sater, Epshteyn, Gorka, Bannon, Kushner, Flynn and many others coordinated this attack on Russia's behalf
This attack was based on a combination of blackmail and at the same time the guarantee of future money and oil deals.. Rosneft
The GOP and some Dems are compromised and will do anything to disrupt and sabotage the Investigations.
It's also import to remember that every individ who spoke or met with Russ was taped ..Either by our Intel and our Allies and Def by Russia
That is the number one method Russia employs. For ex when Sessions met and spoke with Russians it is definite that the Russ recorded him
The Russ will keep all the inappropriate meetings and financ dealings and can employ it at their choosing..Same with the GOP hacked emails
So while this seems like a complicated plot it really isn't. It boils down to a few things.. collecting and using blackmail and money
It is essential for the American media to understand this in order to report accurately and stop dancing around what actually happened
At this moment we need to assume that the whole Trump regime starting with Trump and Pence are willing agents of the Kremlin

Olga's year-old thread is a clear-eyed look at Trump/Russia tactics. We've been begging people to take this seriously for years.

I feel like I should take up fancy knitting. Some of those complicated patterns would look like a walk in the park, these days.

On Eric Greitens and his peculiar political transformation.

‘Have I told you about my old friend who’s married to the Republican governor of Missouri?’ Too often, the answer was yes, I had – sometimes more than once. My Sheena story was my best story, the anecdote that rarely failed, which was fortunate, because I couldn’t stop telling it, usually in the same way, even with the same pauses and hand gestures. At the end, I would play on my phone one of Eric’s earliest campaign ads, in which he shoots a machine gun into a field as he promises to take ‘dead aim at politics as usual’. ‘If you’re ready for a conservative outsider,’ he says, ‘I’m ready to fire away.’

Has anyone explained just how Mr M's people knew to interview executives from eg the firms involved in paying Michael Cohen large spondulicks before - long, long before in fact - they seized his records? The depths of my ignorance are almost unplumbable.......

Hmm. Good question. Perhaps the payments were flagged on other systems (tax?), or someone leaked? Curious.
