Aibu to have not picked up my dogs poo?

Today I took my dog out for a walk on the beach, it's a lovely beach and majority of owners including myself pick up their dogs mess.

My dog loves to run out far and swim in the sea, she was ahead of me but in the distance I could see she was crouching down to go to the toilet. I hurried up to catch her however by the time I had got there I realised she had gone to the toilet at the edge of the sea and it was being washed away. I had a look to see if there was anything there but nothing was left.

A man with three large dogs approached me telling me 'your dog has just done a massive shit aren't you going to clean it?!'. I responded that I would have however it's been washed away. He pointed to something floating which wasn't a dog poo and said I should go in and get it.

Aibu to have not gone in? He spoke to me in a really threatening manner and said that it's people like you that make the world a disgusting place. I now don't want to go to the beach for a while as I've seen him there before and he speaks to a lot of other dog walkers, it was very intimidating as there wasn't many around that end of the beach and he was raising his voice and swearing.

I hope for the day when all pets will be banned ( particularly all outside-shitting-roaming types ). Animals are banned from circus now, Zoos are next on the list. Please, pets be next.

Are you feeling OK Willsa? 😂😂😂

Go ahead and round up all the wildlife. Start with cats - they shit anywhere and everywhere and their owners don't give a damn. Cat owners are the most despised amongst their neighbours. Who gets a cat as a pet simply because they don't have to be responsible for it?

Yet one dog turd in the ocean creates all this drama 🙄

yummumto3girls · 07/05/2018 23:49

Am I the only one who can’t get the scene out of Marley & Me out my head!!

2Sailors1BabyComing · 07/05/2018 23:50

I'd rather deal with a single dog shit than human waste from a sewage plant. My job is aside from being a navigator as a "sea fisheries officer". You want to see some of the absolute crap I have seen fishing boats pull up in their nets over the years.

Not as bad as when I worked passenger ships though. Ferries dump an awful lot of crap.

BlueEyedBengal · 07/05/2018 23:55

The last thing I want my kids to find at the beach is a massive doggy dodo floating around this is the reason more beaches are a dog no go zone. It getting pretty bad on my street Shit everywhere my neighbour grumpy child hater just lets her bad tempered dog out whenever he wants to go and leaves it there council don't want to know as they didn't see him do it. And I when I told her to pick it up she told me to fuck off he can shit wherever he wants. Get yourself an exspendable dog lead problem solvedAngry

Ditzyitzy · 08/05/2018 00:01

Some very OTT replies Hmm the type of people that leave dog shit everywhere without caring probably aren’t likely to be on MN worrying about it. I used to have a springer whos arse used to suck in water which he shat out while swimming.

Chickenagain · 08/05/2018 00:05

Gladallover you are wrong on both counts - my boat doesn't even have a holding tank, many of the smaller ones don't. So its 'dump & pump' for me and 'bucket & chuck it' for others - but not the paper though.....

Away from my home this weekend, but I live on the beach in an AONB and certain it won't be the dogs leaving the most amazing amount of detritus from their bank holiday day at the seaside for us local dog walkers to pick up.

BTW Surfers Against Sewage are generally and rightly protesting about the gazillions of tonnes of human shit and accoutrements dumped into the sea from sewage outlets that end up washing back in than a teensy weensy spaniel plop-plop that a hungry mackerel will soon snaffle.

ShellyBoobs · 08/05/2018 00:14

Dogs shouldn't be allowed on beaches.

Strokethefurrywall · 08/05/2018 00:14

I am sorry to be the one to say it, but you are a disgusting human being. Dog poo is foul, it does not break down easily, carries potentially lethal pathogenic bacteria and smells disgusting. There should never be a situation where your dog fouls and you are not able to clean it. If there is, it is your fault. You disgust me. The man was right, you do make the world a disgusting place.

Fuck me if there was ever an over reaction, this is it...

Your shit doesn't smell of roses either mind....

Appletreecorner · 08/05/2018 00:19

Sorry Stroke. That wasn't aimed at you obviously! I don't know how your name got in there. Sorry!

biscuitraider · 08/05/2018 00:27

I am sorry to be the one to say it, but you are a disgusting human being

On the path that leads to my dds school there is a huge dog turd there EVERY SINGLE MORNING, obviously done by a huge dog on his nightly walks in the dark and left there by the most irresponsible owner imaginable. THAT is a disgusting human being, not a person who takes her dog for walks on the beach who picks up every time except for one time in 4 years where circumstances prevented it. Also to call someone a "disgusting human being" for what is so obviously an accident is disgusting in itself imo.

I like wildlife. It's the "rounding up" and domesticating that I don't.
Agree about the cats.

Chickenagain · 08/05/2018 00:43

Humans shouldn't be allowed on beaches.

This was the first nice weekend we had last year. I can't imagine what it looked like after the humans left this afternoon. And no, it wasn't the picnicking humans that gathered & bagged & piled it up either.

So if me walking my dog on my local beach every means certain humans will stay away - well that can't be a bad thing!

placebobebo · 08/05/2018 00:50

Pets should not be allowed on beaches and neither should humans and their children.
There is a vast wealth of wildlife that has deserted our coastlines due to irresponsible attitudes of others thinking it's their own personal playground.
Other animals depend on it to live and selfishness often prevents that, so would should be an environment teeming with bird calls etc is filled with yapping dogs and screaming kids.

placebobebo · 08/05/2018 00:50

*What should not would should

LARLARLAND · 08/05/2018 00:55

I barely walk my dog on the beach in.warm weather because it's too much hassle. I always pick up after my dog and often do a little clean up of rubbish when I am on the beach but I once got screamed at by a woman when my dog had a wee on the sand. It's not worth the aggravation of dealing with people. I much prefer the cold months when I see the same few familiar faces and their dogs.

MiddleClassProblem · 08/05/2018 00:59

I bet plenty of these people having a go have accidentally dropped a piece of litter and not been about to retrieve it due to gust of wind.

At least a poo is biodegradable.

PS your kid wasn’t in the beach at the time this one off incident happened to the OP. They are not responsible for all the dog poo in the world that you may have come across. That’s some other shitty owner.

Freshfeelings · 08/05/2018 01:10

I don't think the poo is that relevant. It was a poo and got washed away. Lots of animals poo in the sea. What does bother me a lot, though, is that your dog was running on the beach. It's really irresponsible to have an out of control dog in a public area.

greenteaplease · 08/05/2018 01:17

freshfeelings

How do you know my dog was out of control?

It's early in the morning on a dog friendly beach which usually has numerous other dogs off their leads also. There are other parts of the coast near me than aren't dog friendly hence why I don't take her there.

You have no idea about her recall, you just presume she is out of control, she is allowed to run and just so happened to do a poo at the edge of the water, again something which has never happened and I will do my best to ensure it doesn't again. Why is she out of control for running? I didn't say my dog ran away from me and I couldn't get her back.

Loopyloopy · 08/05/2018 02:38

Ah OP, please ignore the dog haters. People who don't have dogs won't understand that you can't always predict the poo! It sounds like you try very hard to do the right thing. It was unfortunate that this happened, but in this case, you could not have reasonably prevented it.

BoomBoomsCousin · 08/05/2018 03:22

The thought of dog poo floating in the sea is pretty disgusting, but you seem to realise that because you're already mortified that you didn't get there in time.

I don't think one incident in 4 years is something to get worked up over. Obviously you need to try and avoid it happening, but you do, so YANBU. I recommend you just take a step back and realise that some people are unable to let a slip up go by or to address it in anything less than a histrionic manner (as evidenced by a couple of the posts on this thread!).

tinytemper66 · 08/05/2018 03:33

I am surprised that dogs are allowed on the beach this time of year. I live by the beach and dogs are banned on the beach from May-October due to dog faeces.

Skittlesandbeer · 08/05/2018 03:57

Where we live, off leash dogs (in allowed off leash places) are still required to be under ‘effective voice control’. That means they have to be trained and managed to stay close enough to hear voice commands, and obey them.

This way ALL other beach/park users can feel safe and the place stays clean.

There’s no exemptions for deluded dog owners and their ‘but he just NEEDS to run’ attitudes. Train your dog, you don’t live in a bubble.

Charolais · 08/05/2018 05:05

Yabu op and very selfish to the surfers and swimmers and wild life using the sea. A surfer really wants you dog poo in his mouth or eyes

lol, Where does the wild life shit? Is shark shit okay in surfers eyes or is it just dog shit that’s the problem?
