Aibu to have not picked up my dogs poo?

Today I took my dog out for a walk on the beach, it's a lovely beach and majority of owners including myself pick up their dogs mess.

My dog loves to run out far and swim in the sea, she was ahead of me but in the distance I could see she was crouching down to go to the toilet. I hurried up to catch her however by the time I had got there I realised she had gone to the toilet at the edge of the sea and it was being washed away. I had a look to see if there was anything there but nothing was left.

A man with three large dogs approached me telling me 'your dog has just done a massive shit aren't you going to clean it?!'. I responded that I would have however it's been washed away. He pointed to something floating which wasn't a dog poo and said I should go in and get it.

Aibu to have not gone in? He spoke to me in a really threatening manner and said that it's people like you that make the world a disgusting place. I now don't want to go to the beach for a while as I've seen him there before and he speaks to a lot of other dog walkers, it was very intimidating as there wasn't many around that end of the beach and he was raising his voice and swearing.

People who get so het up about dog poo - I presume you never swim in the sea or allow your DC to do so? Because the sea is full of animal shit already - goats, pigs, sheep, cows and horses all shit freely, which then gets washed into rivers and streams and ends up in the sea.

Nobody here is saying dog shit is pleasant but are you really suggesting people go fishing for disintegrated dog shits to pick up and put in the bin? Hmm

echt · 07/05/2018 22:33

Amazed at those who say the man was out of order. If dog owners don't pull other owners up, who will?

Where I walk my dog, owners will always point out to others if their dog has had shit and they missed it. I've bagged shit up, walked after an oblivious owner and handed the bag to them.

Ginseng1 · 07/05/2018 22:34

Gross but next time on a busy beach should be on a lead am afraid. I know beaches lovely for dogs to run free but when there's people about. Y'day on the beach a dog pooped in front of me I couldn't see the owner anywhere I tried to find him n her. I was really mad. we've a dog but I wouldn't bring her to beach in summer. Even on a leash she gets so excited prefers quiet

Stopandlook · 07/05/2018 22:34

Yes, what it with wrapping your dog shit in a plastic bag and hanging it in a tree or leaving it under a tree (saw that gem today in bluebell wood). Surely biodegradable smelly dog shit is better than plastic wrapped?
Tangent sorry....So not a dog person....

MrMeSeeks · 07/05/2018 22:35

I think you should be closer to your dog than you were, but there wasn't much you could have done about it.
Ignore him!

troodiedoo because you sound so much better than the op don’t you?

IMBU · 07/05/2018 22:35

The guy is a jumped up twat. Don't stop walking on the beach because of him. Carry on and hold your head high.

cadburyegg · 07/05/2018 22:36

Sorry but I find this thread hilarious, and I am not a dog owner and have very low tolerance for them.

Grin at the idea of training a dog to take a shit on command. Is that even a thing?

There were plenty of people swimming at the beach I went to yesterday. Surfers and wild swimmers are in all year round.

ellsbells2 · 07/05/2018 22:36

Even on a lead, if the poo hits the water you'll have a hard job catching it! The sea isn't still and therefore neither is the poo!

Stopandlook · 07/05/2018 22:36

Also sheep poo etc and dog poo totally different. Carnivore poo stinks and has a lot more pathogenic bacteria.

User02 · 07/05/2018 22:40

If your dog needs to run so much buy yourself a huge garden. You must think the sun shines out your pooch's back end. Neither you nor your dog is entitled to chase people away from the beach with your inconsiderate ways.
It is your dog it is you poo so why not let your dog go poo in the middle of your lounge.

OrchidInTheSun · 07/05/2018 22:40

Most of the beaches here are dog free 10am-6pm. If you choose to go on the tiny bit of beach that is dog-friendly, then you can expect dogs off lead.

Correct, however completely innocuous in a vast ocean being either eaten by other wild creatures, or just being broken down to nothing generally.

SusieOwl4 · 07/05/2018 22:42

So you are suggesting she wade into the sea to bag up invisible poo ? Really ? And yes I do know someone who trained their dog to poo on command . Very handy .

wulliesbucket · 07/05/2018 22:42

do boats etc not empty there waste into the sea??

TenancyTroublesAgain · 07/05/2018 22:43

What did he expect you to do, buy a net and go hunting for it in the sea? Dickhead.

It's possible you may be bordering on hysteria... Hmm

musicalmama · 07/05/2018 22:43

In future I'd keep my dog on the lead until after the poo or get fit enough to run beside her. It's gross to think that will be washed up for someone to stand on later on especially on a nice day when young kids are about. The man shouldn't have been aggressive but you should have been beside your dog. They are unpredictable in more ways than just where they poo and it's responsible ownership to be close enough to react to changing situations as you would with a child.

TenancyTroublesAgain · 07/05/2018 22:43

@User02 oh get a fucking grip

TheClitterati · 07/05/2018 22:44

@Strokethefurrywall there were loads of people in the sea here today.

Catmum26 · 07/05/2018 22:45

I’m sorry but maybe until your dog had gone to the toilet it shouldn’t have been running freely on the beach so far ahead of you. Infact i have Strong feelings on this anyway but this thread isn’t the place for it. However i do Think he was being a bit ridiculous expecting you to wade in to retrieve it even though i can Understand why he was annoyed your dog had crapped on the beach on a day when I’m sure there would be a lot of people including kids playing.

MiddleClassProblem · 07/05/2018 22:47

This happened to me although nobody had a go at me and I was clos to him at the time but he was doing it in the bit just after the smaller waves break so I had no chance of catching it despite my efforts. I did wade in as soon as I saw him squat but it was gone and I wasn’t close enough to catch it.

I just had total Marley & Me flash backs as he’s a yellow lab too. I felt so ashamed!

Strokethefurrywall · 07/05/2018 22:47

Do you know how fast dogs run?

User02 · 07/05/2018 22:50

Stroke = the "entitlement" of the dog owners really annoys me. Always has and always will probably. I really don't like seeing piles of poo anywhere especially not where children are. I don't have to worry about my children they are grown up now.

I would totally disagree that dogs are entitled to be off the lead and running around where young children are. I even had some PP say that they wished all parents would take their children off the beach so that their dog can run free. Inconsiderate self entitled ????

biscuitraider · 07/05/2018 22:51

Don't planes empty shit over the sea? Confused
