To go topless in my own garden?

Perhaps I am. I have to say, I feel quite sad that so many people might mind since it's even in my own garden. Posting in AIBU so preparing myself for a flame Grin

I have been in the garden with just bikini bottoms on today, playing with my 6 month old in the paddling pool , relaxing, etc.

I am almost 100% sure next door wouldn't be able to see anything, unless the children jumped on their trampoline and caught a glimpse. But they're impeccably quiet and I've never heard a peep from them (I think they're both no more than age 8).

We do however have a bit of a gap at the back where you can sort of see onto the huge field in front of us, where some little boys ride their bikes, lots of football training goes on, people walk their dogs, etc.

But it is generally a very quiet area and apart from when football is taking place, never really anyone there!

DH has been very Shock and thinks I should at least be cautious and cover when I'm facing a certain way.

AIBU? I have been quickly whipping a Muslin over myself sometimes but as the day has progressed, I've started not to bother.

I'm really comfortable just being topless and it is the absolute norm where my family are from.

I breastfeed in the garden so that makes that easier too. I know I should probably consider other people but it is my own personal garden so I think people can look the other way if they're not wanting to see, can't they?

I'm a B cup so you wouldn't see any swooshing around. Not much to see really.

Can’t see the issue to be honest. If you’re comfortable, it’s your own garden

Emma198 · 07/05/2018 15:37

I can't see the problem. I'd love to but given I can see at least four other gardens from my back window I'd say it's probably a bad idea for me Grin

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 15:39

Emma to the left hand side there are two/three houses who can probably see my garden very clearly from their bathrooms Grin

Expect a picture to be taken and posted on line if you don’t mind

Your boobs being in Facebook then sure unless you have a garden that is not overlooked

BossWitch · 07/05/2018 15:42

I would but my garden boundaries are very low hedges (about 4 foot) so until I can plant them up a bit I darent!

Haberpop · 07/05/2018 15:42

I can't see an issue with topless bodies of any age or gender in their own back gardens to be honest, if you feel comfortable go for it.

TooManyPaws · 07/05/2018 15:43

Your garden, your business. It's none of anyone else's business. They shouldn't be staring out of bathroom windows anyway. Going topless is perfectly fine n your own garden and if anyone else catches a glimpse (1) not their business (2) they shouldn't either be staring or offended (3) it's not in public and it's perfectly natural. Time people in the UK weren't so twisted up about human body parts in own gardens or beaches. Go for it.

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 15:43

I'm not bothered if people really want to have a peek. Makes no difference to me or my life unless they took some bad picture and kept it to show my son when he's a teenager.

Unlikely though, just mostly older folk around here and small children next door

I don’t see an issue if you’re not massively overlooked; it sounds like for someone to see they’d have to properly look through their open bathroom window or through the gap.

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 15:47

My only issue would be offending next door and hearing the kids say "Dad, Mum, the lady next door has her boobs on show" Blush Followed by a very angry knock on the door!

ferrier · 07/05/2018 15:47

They shouldn't be staring out of bathroom windows anyway.

I'm not going to stop looking out of any windows just because someone is topless in their garden. If they don't like me catching a glimpse of them or looking in their general direction at the view beyond then they should cover up.

theunsure · 07/05/2018 15:48

YANBU
When it is warm enough I do the same.
Although I’ve gone topless on hol for as long as I can remember so definitely comfortable and couldn’t give a monkeys who looks.
Your garden, your body, your choice.
If you were pooping to Tesco like it DH might have a point....

theunsure · 07/05/2018 15:48

*popping!

happymummy12345 · 07/05/2018 15:49

If you don't mind then go for it. Personally I won't go out unless I'm fully clothed- legs covered to knees at least and top full length length. But that's just me.

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 15:49

ferrier I think that's fine.

Wouldn't bother me if someone was looking in my general direction.

Nor would I expect other people to change how they use their own windows or go about looking with their eyes, just because I'm topless.

I would just expect people to go about their usual business unchanged

I remember as a naughty child I saw the woman next door sunbathing topless (by accident) it was a very low fence at one point.

So me and a small decided to squirt a small water pistol at her Grin - she did not see the funny side.

But yeah go for it. Boobs are boobs, a large percentage of the population has them.

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 15:55

West I wouldn't mind, would probably enjoy a bit of refreshment actually Grin

I love sunbathing topless on holiday so it certainly wouldn't bother me if a neighbour sunbathed topless.

Storm4star · 07/05/2018 15:57

I’m in two minds about this one. Half of me thinks, well it’s your garden, do what you like. However...technically, from a legal standpoint, if it causes “offence” to anyone then you have to cover up. To say people shouldn’t look out of their bathroom window isn’t an excuse. I wouldn’t want to see a male neighbour sunbathing with his bits out so yes I would be offended and ask him to cover up, but a topless woman wouldn’t bother me. Which may be wrong of me but that’s how I feel. Anyway, I would say carry on as you are but if someone says something then you do have to cover up.

OakIsBetterTho · 07/05/2018 15:58

Don't see the issue! I've been pottering basking in the garden all day with just bikini bottoms on, and we have neighbours who could see into our garden very easily. I just don't care Grin that being said, Mother Nature clearly thinks I need to cover up as the sea mist is now coming in very quickly, so they won't be able to see me soon anyway!

OhTheRoses · 07/05/2018 15:59

Depends how private the garden is. MIL did once when we lived in London. That was unacceptable and I'd have thought a 60 year old deputy head/Sunday school teacher would have known better. She wouldn't do it in her own garden because FIL was the church organist and the neighbours would mention it at church Hmm. But fine in her son's London house.

ellie232 · 07/05/2018 16:00

YANBU but I don't see why you'd want to.

YellowStages · 07/05/2018 16:01

Storm But if you looked over and a male neighbour had his bits out, that isn't the same because that is (correct me if I'm wrong, I've made an assumption), genitalia.

Breasts are just a food source, and often an 'attraction' but so are legs, lips, etc.

Now if you'd be offended with a man and his top off, and that's what you meant, I'd think that goes against the grain since it seems like most think men going topless is just fine but women must cover their sexual luring assets Envy

Boobs are boobs, a large percentage of the population has them. Grin - a very large percentage. 100%, in fact!
