This just popped up in my feed. Talking about someone that had an abortion as they wouldn't be able to afford the child without credits. It's not just an isolated issue, a charity says they've had a huge increase in women contacting about abortions as now they won't be able to afford to have any more children. I'm not sure what the answer is but this is very worrying

@smeddum, you claim to know that disabled people are dehumanized in America that people are dehumanized on welfare in Britain. what is this dehumanizing you're talking about? You make things up and when challenged about it can you project and makeup things no one ever said and claim rabid rampid dehumanization whatever you define that to be. Yet the one thing you never offer is a solution that doesn't involve complaining about what other people have. In fact I don't see any solutions just you complaining about what other people have "dehumanization".

Smeddum · 11/05/2018 21:18

@Bashun I’m sorry find a point where I mention dog food anywhere on this thread? don’t waste your time because I didn’t

Take the hint, I can’t enter into a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent. Now go and annoy someone else.

SmeatonJust like Smeddums vast interest in the US yesterday at 7.02 yesterday:

  1. #BlackLivesMatter
  2. Healthcare changes which deny more people access to medical help when needed
  3. aye, disabled people employed at any level (including licking envelopes for a living) because they have to to survive but are paid low wages and not treated the same as other workers (don’t deny this, I have family and friends in the US)
  4. Your welfare system is not existent and dehumanising (yes even more than the UK system)
  5. I am not prepared to take any judgement from anyone who thinks the US is doing “ok” when you have Trump as president and a whole host of problems that you need to address.
Smeddum · 12/05/2018 07:37

@LifeBeginsAtGin that was a response to the assertion that the US was “doing OK” because they had god on their side and that the U.K. was in a mess because we’re all heathens.

Nice try though.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 12/05/2018 08:05

You're welcome 😉

Gilead · 12/05/2018 09:00

Wow! Just Wow at the level of smugness on display.

Smeddum · 12/05/2018 09:17

I think you’ve inhaled too much Gin given that you’re not even making sense now. Off you pop to Waitrose and stock up Wink I’m sure you’ll find “your people” in there among the quinoa and artisan gin Grin

Does anyone else just read 'Artisan' as 'Wanker' these days?

Yes! which is entirely why I used it in that context Grin

That and all the deconstructed food/coffee around. Fucks sake it’s pretentiousness personified!

Lol I planned to. Your country side looks phenomenal and your historical sites incredible but now smedden may attack me at the airport with false accusations, lol.

Lex234 · 13/05/2018 19:10

I saw a few people up thread mention about minimum wage for carers and how owners of care homes should be forced to increase them...I really couldn't agree more, but I don't think this will end up cheaper public spending wise. What would happen is an increase in care home fees to cover the cost. And by cost, not just the cost of hourly rate...cost of national insurance contributions the employer makes, annual leave costs, agency costs (which would sky rocket), pension contributions...Obviously some people privately fund their care but the vast majority are at least partially paid for out of the LA/CCG/SS purse. Then the knock on effects you would have to increase nurse pay in the private sector (or why would you work for the same with more responsibility?!). Knock on effect to the NHS and staff retention.

So whilst I 100% think carers should be paid more so they wouldnt need UC, all the reasons above mean it would be more expensive to enforce that than top up woth UC.

Bashun · 13/05/2018 19:55

Again I never made that assertion that a wacked-out conclusion you drew from your angry little mind and your anti-American beliefs. BTW why are you asserting that black lives matter is something wrong with America. It just proves that our right to protest As Americans is alive and well. Protesting is what helped us win the American Revolution. And I still contend America is okay we are still here we're still striving people that need health care can get it. In fact it's illegal to deny anyone Medical Care in this country. And we can even take our children to any hospital we wish we wish and the government won't block it and the poor will get there because their friends family church and Community will pull together for them as I have in numeral examples to show you. Someone on this thread said that the poor children in England were eating dog food because of this Universal thing. And I was just curious as to why that was. If you're annoyed that's on you take a Midol and get over it. God bless and have a wonderful day

Bashun · 13/05/2018 19:58

@life begins thank you for your accurate observation I'm sorry I seem to distracted that person off of topic. Perhaps I just like to see the positive and think your country is wonderful and no country or personal thing is perfect but I think Great Britain is pretty close

Lex234 · 13/05/2018 20:16

Did I post on the wrong thread? Confused

LifeBeginsAtGin · 13/05/2018 20:22

No it got derailed slightly and some people got upset and said mean things, but Smeddum and Smeaton and have gone now - it's safe to come out.Grin

Justanotherlurker · 13/05/2018 20:31

Is this thread still trying to implicate that any opposing view is being fed by propaganda and channel 5 unironically?

Lex234 · 13/05/2018 20:38

Rarely post, but I read a lot of threads-usually very well informed and interesting debates but sometimes they do get completely derailed into the utterly abstract!

For what its worth, I think better tax relief for lower earners would be a good move and reduce the amount of UC needed, and possibly encourage people to do overtime-as it stands, people can end up working extra hours for almost nothing after national insurance/tax is taken, and if done regularly will reduce their WTC award. Im guessing it will affect UC the same way?

Bashun · 13/05/2018 21:15

They're gone yaay, 😀

"What would happen is an increase in care home fees to cover the cost"

God forbid those in high flying careers should pay more for the nearest and dearest elderly relatives they claim to care about.

Lex234 · 14/05/2018 17:30

A lot of care home fees are funded by the public purse Helena, so it wont just be private funders that pay more. Private funders make up a tiny percentage of care home fees

RoadToRivendell · 14/05/2018 18:23

Good grief, Helena, you really despise ambition, don't you?

Your inverted snobbery betrays you with every post you make.
