This just popped up in my feed. Talking about someone that had an abortion as they wouldn't be able to afford the child without credits. It's not just an isolated issue, a charity says they've had a huge increase in women contacting about abortions as now they won't be able to afford to have any more children. I'm not sure what the answer is but this is very worrying

"Someone upthread complained about people having to take time off for UC appointments, but we all have to take time off for appointments. It's common sense that if you work and you need a GP/Dentist/Solicitors appt you book leave. So why do we have to feel sorry for someone you has to take leave for a UC appointment? Like it's a harsh punishment. If you want to make a claim then that is the process"

Life Begins your post here is ludicrous.

Dentist checkups are every six months UC problems crop up a LOT more often than that A LOT more often.

And as for booking leave You do know that leave has to be booked IN ADVANCE. When a UC problem comes up unless its sorted straight away the claimant risks the claim being closed or childcare not being paid.

There is then the risk of the claimant not being able to afford to go into work and then they have to pre book leave.

So they have to pre empt each problem WOW with the powers of premonition UC claimants are being expected to have surely they are worth more than they are being paid by their employer then.

Because this simply comes down to them not being paid enough. They have got to piss about like this because of a poorly paying employer.

Well some on here would be the first to moan if the care worker caring for their gran had to take time off to sort UC problems Or the teacher teaching their child had to take time off to sort UC problems.

Book leave? Yeah cos they are also kind enough to let you know EXACTLY when these problems are going to crop up.

Whatever happened to contraception !!! It’s 2018 and still I keep hearing over and over again of people who just get pregnant !!!

BoxsetsAndPopcorn · 06/05/2018 17:47

123, apparently it's all the fault of the male according to this thread Hmm Despite there bring multiple free methods for women, saying no to sex or sex without a condom and women having the final say in the pregnancy. Or I'm sure it will be the governments fault soon, everything else appears to be.

Smeddum · 06/05/2018 17:50

@BoxsetsAndPopcorn what pish are you talking? You’ve been called out for placing the blame solely on the shoulders of women, and it’s been pointed out that men are involved in the conception of children too.

It’s not rocket science! Who has blamed it all on the men? Or are you making stuff up again?

wooo69 · 06/05/2018 17:59

Not related to abortion because you can’t afford another child but if you have not seen the film I, Daniel Blake it is worth a watch, just make sure you have tissues handy. I work in Social Housing and we were all made to sit through this film.

starlight13 · 06/05/2018 18:20

Use contraception or if you both are sure that you don't want any more children then get sterilised - that should sort it.
So many are using 'accidental pregnancies' as a fucking excuse not to get a job and it makes my blood boil. Also try and cut back on smoking, drinking, holidays, eating out and take aways if you want to afford another child. FFS.

sunshine11 · 06/05/2018 18:22

If you have two kids you know how children are made. If you can't afford to support a third child without financial support from the government DON'T HAVE A THIRD CHILD.

It really is that simple.

The issue of whether UC is a good idea or not is completely separate to the issue of a third child.

Kahlua4me · 06/05/2018 18:24

The situation needs to be tackled from various angles and attacking those On credits is not the way to succeed. There will always be people that will cheat the system, whatever it is, but they are a minority and most just want to be able to care for their families as best they can.

Companies need to pay a proper living wage, not just the lowest they can legally get away with. This world is so full of greed these days and company owners are too busy looking out for themselves. If they paid properly, reducing their profit initially then there turnover and success would then increase. Workers will always work better where they feel valued and can increase their own skills.

Absent fathers, or mothers, need to dealt with and changes made so that they are paying properly for the children they have and subsequently abandon.

Lastly, those at the top need to pay taxes properly. All loopholes and tax avoidance schemes need to be addressed so that they have to pay Based on the profit they have made. Dh and I run our own company and are penalised if 1 day late with our taxes so I am always shocked at how the big companies get away with millions!

We pay the lads that work for us the top end of the going rate for our area and I am always conscious that they are paid well. We don’t monitor annual leave or timings in every day as I want them to be happy and feel part of the team. The return for that is immense and the business is doing well. Dh has been very ill recently and they have all stepped up to help as needed.

Indeed. This magical “sterilisation” that’s trotted out as so easy to get!

Gilead · 06/05/2018 18:28

No contraceptive is 100% reliable, and some can have side effects. Find out about all the methods available so you can decide which contraceptive is right for you.
From the NHS website.

HelenaDove · 06/05/2018 18:33

The narrative around WTC has been reframed. It never used to be thought of the way it is now.

Lloyd45 · 06/05/2018 18:35

Why would any woman want 3 children or more? 2 is plenty. The more children a woman has the harder it is to get out of poverty, especially if you are a single mum which can happen to anyone. Girls education and birth control are so important.

Gilead · 06/05/2018 18:38

Oh, and sterilisation isn't always 100% effective either.

Gilead · 06/05/2018 18:40

So many are using 'accidental pregnancies' as a fucking excuse not to get a job and it makes my blood boil. Do you have the figures? Also try and cut back on smoking, drinking, holidays, eating out and take aways if you want to afford another child. FFS.
Who is it you're judging here?

Smeddum · 06/05/2018 18:45

Who on earth can afford holidays, takeaways regularly and smoking on benefits??? It’s not a lot of money at all!

Viperama · 06/05/2018 18:49

This argument is ridiculous. DP and I are only having 1 child because it’s all we can afford. We support ourselves and don’t expect someone else to support us. We use various methods of birth control and are accountable for our actions. As everyone should be. Welfare should be to help people out of a hard time, not a way of life.

and if you did the research Viper you'd find that for the majority it isn't a way of life, but people like you and Box kept squealing about the minority and so the rest of us were punished because you had a tantrum. That's what it boils down to. Twenty kids at the top of the playground had a tantrum because although eight kids at the bottom of the playground had exactly the same number of sweets as them, two had more.

Crowd · 06/05/2018 18:57

Yup, completely pathetic argument. Woman hasn't worked for twelve years, has two kids and doesn't live with her partner to maximise benefits. He is "training" to do something without actually, you know working to support those kids.

She gets pregnant, finds out the tax payer won't subsidise a third so aborts.

This is what was supposed to happen. Sick of supporting wastrels like this.

Barbara1956 · 06/05/2018 18:59

Bowlofbabelfish has summed up our 'progressive' society perfectly. I am older and know that I have been very lucky to have had a career , cheap houses..(the 80's when a big house was £50K ) and could only have 2 children due to medical issues. But I also had to change from being a SAHM to full time work before I wanted to due to partners unexpected illness and had to move to a smaller house in an expensive area to follow work.
Now I am retired but in the age group that had the Retirement Pension age pushed back from 60 to 66 so we are struggling worse than ever. Both my children did very well at school , have jobs but no way can they afford to save for a house deposit. Wages are being kept very low so that shareholders c an enjoy vast profits....the government are happily paying private landlords inflated rents and preventing councils from investing in social housing...this crazy, destructive situation can be traced right back to Thatcher and her cronies.

caringcarer · 06/05/2018 19:01

There is always using double contraception ie. on pill and use condom or have coil fitted and use condom, have implant and use condom. That is what I did when I was determined I would not get pregnant. And MAP just in case condom splits.

Earthakitty · 06/05/2018 19:13

And ?
Don't get pregnant then.
Contraception is free.
Why should the State fund your lifestyle ?
It is NOT your right to have as many children as you like.
You have to be able to afford them.

Twounder1 · 06/05/2018 19:18

I want to second the benefits not paying a lot post.
600 a month +child benefit.
Our rent is 500. I don't know where you think people on benefit have a luxury life comes from.
I've had to sell everything I own to scrape by for my babies.
Apparently 600 a month is enough to live on for two people, a toddler and a newborn.

Fuck me I'd love a holiday or to buy some new clothes. Hmm it's not like I dont have a job either. Just unable to smp and MA due to dp being let go from his job and on jsa.

Why can't people understand that other parents are sacrificing time with their own children to put taxes in the pot for selfish lazy feckless breeders to sit on their fat arses

“Lazy feckless breeders”? Charming.
