The total collapse of ukip should mean a brexit revote

jnfrrss · 04/05/2018 06:57

Seeing that their support has collapsed by over 90% this indicates many have changed their mind on it!

Aibu to say this is a perfect example of why a revote is needed?

WE can only hope.

BMW6 · 04/05/2018 08:18

Of course there's a new Brexit story every day - because it is an ongoing process and will continue to be until the "decree absolute".

Littlegoth · 04/05/2018 08:24

Yawn ...

lljkk · 04/05/2018 08:26

UKIP had many other identifiable policies Confused.

UKIP were vehemently opposed to any subsidies for renewable energy and all onshore wind (local big issue).
UKIP wanted grammar schools back.
UKIP wanted to reboot & restart the coal industry.
They were infavour of free Uni tuition which came with dramatically fewer places for anybody.
Lots more if you look for their manifestos.

I loathe UKIP for their policy opposing onshore wind & the local impacts. BREXIT is just an additional disaster.

Nanasueathome · 04/05/2018 08:31

So if we had another Brexit vote and the leavers win again would we then still carry on about the result?
Vote again, best of 5 this time?
Because the remainders lost it does not mean we have to keep voting until they win

Nanasueathome · 04/05/2018 08:31

Remainers...sorry..autocorrect

Collaborate · 04/05/2018 08:31

I disagree. And I'm a staunch retainer agitating for a 2nd referendum,

Both Labour and the Tories are facilitating Brexit, so UKIP becomes an irrelevance. The sooner Corbyn commits himself to that 2nd referendum the sooner my vote will go to him. At the moment I can't vote for him because of Brexit. I can't vote Tory because.... well, you know. Locally the Lib Dems are shameless opportunists, so I went Green last night.

tortelliniforever · 04/05/2018 08:32

There are lots of valid reasons why we should have a second referendum (me not getting a vote being the most important Wink ) but this isn't one of them!

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/05/2018 08:46

The ukip vote has only evaporated because it has been swallowed whole by the Tory party and is now, rather like a bunch of slytheens, 'taking control' of our cabinet.

Some speculated that the windrush outrage could have harmed the conservatives. On the contrary, I suspect it simply reinforced for any wavering ukip supporters, that the Tories are the party for them.

balsamicbarbara · 04/05/2018 08:50

Remember how loony and bigoted people thought UKIP and the BNP were ten years ago? The referendum basically normalised that and the Tories are now running an agenda that's almost the same as the BNP's 2005 manifesto, just look it up and read it. When madness is normalised, who needs the mad parties?

IvorHughJarrs · 04/05/2018 08:54

I'm in the North and think a majority of people I know voted Leave. None of them are racists or UKIP voters, none seem to have voters regret and the conversations I hear say that people are frustrated with the constant undermining and want a government who will deliver it.

I think UKIP has collapsed as its aims were accomplished and if a party had a policy of we will deliver Brexit well and quickly they'd sweep the boards up here

jasjas1973 · 04/05/2018 08:58

I voted remain but i dont want another vote, i want us to leave everything to do with the EU, CU/SM and all the EU educational and science programmes, defence and security co-op such as Europol or to be in the recently announced eu railcard scheme.

We will then sink or swim and either way, it ll be on our own heads.

Its what people voted for, they did not vote to cherry pick or have another referendum.

GabriellaMontez · 04/05/2018 08:59

Don't be ridiculous

Figmentofmyimagination · 04/05/2018 09:03

Last one off the cliff is a sissy.

theunsure · 04/05/2018 09:06

Absolutely ridiculous!

I voted Leave, would still vote Leave. I would never have voted for UKIP, either pre or post referendum.

mostdays · 04/05/2018 09:07

I voted remain, I would love to see a fresh referendum. I don't think the collapse of the UKIP vote is the big deal that shows one is needed though. Why would you vote UKIP now? The tories are committed to Brexit, and seemingly a pretty hard one.

Singlenotsingle · 04/05/2018 09:08

The Lord's needs to be abolished PDQ. Such outrageous arrogance to try to impose their opinions on the people! Obviously they are "educated" whereas we aren't if we want to leave!

specialsubject · 04/05/2018 09:22

you London types may not realise that not everywhere had elections yesterday.

opposing onshore wind is sensible - it only happens because of hefty subsidies, the turbines need diesel generators, the wind is unreliable and the sums do not factor in the short life of the turbines, the transport, building and decommissioing costs.

IIIustriousIyIllogical · 04/05/2018 09:26

I've never voted for UKIP, I did vote Leave though - not sure why my opinion becomes invalid because a one trick pony has folded?

Neolara · 04/05/2018 09:36

Agree with Balsamic upthread. The Conservative's policy now is basically BNP policy from 10 years ago. As they have moved to the right, they have absorbed the nutter fringes. Ukip policy is now covered by both mainstream political parties. All of the above is, IMO, completely shocking.

SuitedandBooted · 04/05/2018 09:44

Don't be daft, OP.
I doubt if many see UKIP as anything more than a one issue party. Do you?
Voting UKIP was seen as a way of getting the chance to have the Brexit referendum. It worked, job done, so no need now to trust them with bin collection etc.

jugglingsatsumas · 04/05/2018 09:44

want a government who will deliver it.

Yes, I have a lot of relatives who say the same but when you ask them what exactly they want e.g. in Northern Ireland, with the customs union, they actually have no idea.Hmm

surferjet · 04/05/2018 09:53

There was a study done a few years back where the BNP manifesto was shown to a 1000 people & 85% agreed with it. They didn’t know it was the BNP’s at the time of reading ( & agreeing with it ) but as soon as they found out who’s manifesto it was they suddenly changed their minds.
Make of that what you will.

MullinerSpec · 04/05/2018 10:20

Well its been done and we have to deal with it. Having another vote because sentiment has changed, well if thats the case then surely a vote vote our Scottish brethren for a Scottish exit from UK should be considered? The point i'm making is that a vote was cast, a decision was made and now we have to forge ahead with it. I voted remain.

RubberJohnny · 04/05/2018 10:34

I've really heard it all now!
