If they are fugly/old lady/frumpy/
mumsy?

Just buy what you like! You can't see what other posters are wearing. We could all be sat here in Jesus sandals so why trust our opinion? Trust your own!

Is this a TAAT?

goose1964 · 03/05/2018 21:29

Then style and beauty would be no fun

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 03/05/2018 21:30

Or you could just not click on those threads if you’re not interested in them?

CocoaGin · 03/05/2018 21:31

I agree. I'm at that lovely age where I literally don't give a shit what something looks like as long as it's comfy!

SaucyJack · 03/05/2018 21:31

But those blue Hotter sandals were bloody awful.

Ellapaella · 03/05/2018 21:32

Every single sandal thread just seems to end in certain posters just jumping on to pour scorn all over the OP's choice of sandal anyway so I'm inclined to agree.
Although it's helpful to ask about size and fit for certain brands.

Sparklingbrook · 03/05/2018 21:33

TAAT

MyFriendFlickaWasAHorse · 03/05/2018 21:33

Sometimes I’m on the fence though and I need someone else’s perspective. I used to go shopping with friends or my sister. Mumsnet is my equivalent since we had to move away from them all.

FaFoutis · 03/05/2018 21:33

YANBU. I am sat here in jesus sandals, and dungarees. Two fingers to s&b.

SooChef · 03/05/2018 21:34

Nooo - not a TAAT - how very dare you!

You can substitute the sandals in the title for any item of clothing. Or hair style. Or asking how to look expensive/French/edgy/groomed. Why ask us - WTF do we know?

OP posts:
LadyOfTheCanyon · 03/05/2018 21:35

I was tempted to start a similar thread. The sandals threads are relentless.

FaFoutis · 03/05/2018 21:36

They think they know. My mum would agree with their taste and my mum plays golf.

EnriqueTheRingBearingLizard · 03/05/2018 21:36

Quite telling is that someone's 'My mum has these and she's 78' is someone else's hipster choice. It's a fine line.

Member · 03/05/2018 21:36

Wtf is wrong with Jesus sandals?Confused

echt · 03/05/2018 21:38

I sort of get why it's odd to ask about individual items, but then I shop alone and have never asked anyone's views on anything I wear.

The more general ones about groomed/French, etc. are quite enlightening, and not always based on just one MNer's views but a body of opinion on what constitutes a certain style.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 03/05/2018 21:38

I don't have time to read the fashion press any more but I don't want to end up looking like a throw back. MN is a brilliant short cut. I always name change though.

I've heard it said said you can tell when a person last felt good about themselves by looking at their style. Stuck in the style of ten/twenty/thirty years ago? That's when you last liked yourself. Well, according to my SIL when she decided to ditch the eighties perm and stonewashed denim in about 2005.

SooChef · 03/05/2018 21:39

Exactly, Enrique!

And I don't get all the bob hate. The only style acceptable on S&B is long hair. Doesn't matter what condition it is so long as it's not a bob.

OP posts:
echt · 03/05/2018 21:41

The only style acceptable on S&B is long hair Not true.

Doesn't matter what condition it is so long as it's not a bob Also not true, though I do they're mostly boring as fuck when they don't need to be.

echt · 03/05/2018 21:42

"do think"!!

MyFriendFlickaWasAHorse · 03/05/2018 21:42

Oh I didn’t know there was bob hate or long hair love on s&b! Long hair is lovely on some people, but I look a state with it. I don’t have a bob either but I like them.

SmashedMug · 03/05/2018 21:43

YANBU. The need to fit in and match and wear stuff other people like ALL THE TIME must be so draining.

PickleFish · 03/05/2018 21:45

I shop alone, and have no-one to bounce ideas off. I am known for being frumpy, so I don't trust my judgement - hence the question. People seem happy to give their opinions, so why not ask? It doesn't mean I have to do what they tell me; some liked them, some didn't. I'm still considering. I'm grateful that people did give me views, because I really don't know. Usually the thread titles are fairly clear, and in the right section.

Maelstrop · 03/05/2018 21:45

Also, don’t ask ‘What do I want, Chinese or Indian?” Then ‘What do I want from the Indian/Ikea etc?’

How the fuck should we know? Stupid and ridiculous questions to which no-one but the poster herself can reply.

ThenCameTheFools · 03/05/2018 21:54

The sandal threads are relentless because 99% of them I'm sure are started by the marketing departments of sandal companies.
I imagine that's true for many of the 'has anybody ever bought anything from

FaFoutis · 03/05/2018 21:58

Good point ThenCame.
