Not personally obviously, surprisingly enough I don't know her, but I love the Radio 2 Drivetime programme and she is going to ruin it. I find her voice grating, she has a babyish breathy style that is highly irritating. The Drivetime show was perfect and now they have got rid of homework, foody Thursday with Nigel and they are getting rid of MATT!!!! Are they crazy???

I'm all for gender equality but why can't Jo share a show with Steve Wright as his show is already awful.

I know I may be getting this out of proportion but it feels like this show is part of my life and it's just gone.

OP posts:
Luckyme2 · 16/05/2018 19:49

All I'm saying is they'd better still play the Muppets song at 5.15 on Friday! My DD (9) is going to take great offence otherwise. Radio 2 you have been warned!

loudaloneknows · 16/05/2018 19:56

Never thought I'd miss the folky showstopper. Simon seems very sad. They were both so ridiculously happy when someone praised their quiz. I feel sorry for both of them and especially Matt.

I genuinely loved the old show. The familiarity and feeling like I was hanging out with friends. I will give this one time but I wish the bbc hadn't changed it. It wasn't broke. Didn't need fixing. The bloody breakfast show on the other hand....

wineoclock1 · 16/05/2018 20:01

Great thread OP. What have radio 2 done?? Drive time was THE best show on the radio, I can't understand why they have changed it, and why they have got rid of Matt.

I listened to the new show on Monday and today, and it is so boring, I am so not interested in an interview with Craig David on the way home from work (nothing against Craig David of course!) I'm sorry to say radio 2 have lost a listener.

drumandthebass · 16/05/2018 20:08

Petition signed. Just trying to get on to the BBC complaints page to complain again, but there's an error, hopefully its crashing due to the high number complaints.

It's turned into the Jo Whiley show with SM just reading the confession.

its just so fucking dull

NerrSnerr · 16/05/2018 20:14

I don't mind her individual shows but I agree that it's not working. I think that Simon will end up leaving if they keep it as it is which is a shame. I don't think Whiley is upbeat enough for drivetime, she's too 'cool'.

MrsMozart · 16/05/2018 20:15

The petition is nearly at 1000.

Still can't believe I'm so invested in this...

AmIDoingThisRight · 16/05/2018 20:25

Have emailed Radio 2 as well.

They can't just rip the guts out of my favourite radio program and expect people to roll over and 'give it time'. No! No, BBC. You can't force us to endure Wiley's breathy blah blah blah I'm so cool etc.

Why on earth Steve Wright witters on in the same format year after year is beyond me.

And breathe ...

TheKitchenWitch · 16/05/2018 21:06

They’re hoping we’ll all just give up eventually.
I was so upset yesterday, I could have cried. It’s pissed me off more than I could have imagined.
I’m giving it until Friday, and then I think that’s it for me.

DragonflyInn · 16/05/2018 21:12

Well I've signed too. The BBC will probably ignore that too but their bland response on the complaints page really annoyed me. Thanks for the link.

MrsMozart · 16/05/2018 21:26

Over 1k signatures.

It's barking.

slippermaiden · 16/05/2018 21:28

I listened properly today, I thought it was a good show, they talked to each other, normal tea time guest (Judy Murray). Great music. People on here are very harsh to judge, imagine if Jo and Simon read these comments 😔

drumandthebass · 16/05/2018 21:35

I hope they do read it slipper.

SmellsLikeMiddleAgeSpirit · 16/05/2018 21:38

I think Simon is coming out rather well in these comments, slipper.
Jo on the other hand...!

MrsMozart · 16/05/2018 21:38

Slipper - there will be people who like it, and for those I'm happy, but there are many who don't. We like what it was for pretty much an agreed set of reasons. If one is in the public eye then one is (probably) going to read things they don't like.

loudaloneknows · 16/05/2018 21:44

If it was a brand new show on a brand new station then that would be a different thing. People loved it as it was before so are comparing it unfavourably.

It will take time to get better and I'm sure it will but I wish they hadn't ripped up Simon's old show completely.

I'm sure they'll know what people are saying about it. There are comments all over social media on radio 2 official channels.

sweetboykit · 16/05/2018 22:05

I would tell Jo to her face what my problem is with her presenting style, attitude and performance.

FleeBee · 16/05/2018 22:13

I've signed the petition & I'm not normally a petition signing person. The ear piercing gone manky was the final straw. That's not entertaining for my drive home Confused

Derwent19 · 16/05/2018 22:22

I have signed the petition. The most annoying thing about this new show is that it was so unnecessary. Drivetime was so good and didn't need changing. All of this meddling for nothing more than political correctness.

CiderwithBuda · 16/05/2018 22:34

The response on the complaints page is word for word the email I received after my complaint.

I did think it was a bit better tonight but mainly because Simon seemed to do most of theJudy Murray interview. And he is good at that.

wineoclock1 · 16/05/2018 23:16

Petition is nearly at 1200 now, I also seem to be very invested in this...

strivingforsuccess · 17/05/2018 00:20

I've also signed petition and had a rant at the same time!
I've never liked her voice and her 'way', even on R1 (Sara cox has the same effect on me for some reason?!) so glad to hear it's not just me!!

cistersofterfy · 17/05/2018 00:58

Thought this tweet from Simon was interesting - "difficult and upsetting"

MrsMozart · 17/05/2018 07:52

Cister - that is quite sad. Very frustrating to 'know' that something was / is going on and not be told what it is but having to put up with, or otherwise deal with, the fallout, i.e. find a new programme.

Slartybartfast · 17/05/2018 07:53

But there is a However and a part 2 to his tweet

SoapOnARoap · 17/05/2018 07:56

I’ve switched to Radio 6 again. Simon & Jo for me are great broadcasters in their own right but, the new show just doesn’t work.
