Someone mentioned a well known quite old song in the office today and I said I’d never heard of it.

Colleague retorts - really?! I mean you’re not even that young.

I’m in my 20s btw.

This used to be a fun game in my office, I am 33 70% of the team i managed were at least ten years older than me, some were old enough to be my parents or a bit older. There were three women around the same age as me. It would start with a joke or off the cuff comment with a pop culture reference. One of the youngest team members would get a blank look on her face, or ask what we were talking about, followed by a chorus of 'oh come on' how can you not know what button moon is/never seen super market sweep, not know who David dickenson is/the rolling stones are (all true examples), she would then say oh it's only because you're all so old! To which I'd reply Janet you are eleven months younger than me, that is not an excuse, and every now and then she'd know something we didn't expect and would get a spontaneous cheer. She is bloody good at her job this was made clear and it was all light hearted fun. YABU
