Someone mentioned a well known quite old song in the office today and I said I’d never heard of it.

Colleague retorts - really?! I mean you’re not even that young.

I’m in my 20s btw.

Start singing "roll out the barrel" just to piss her off.

BananasAreTheSourceOfEvil · 30/04/2018 16:42

*wouldnt say it was too rude.

Typo. Must be getting old Grin

IIIustriouslyIllogical · 30/04/2018 16:42

What would upset and offend you might shockingly not have the same reaction for another human being.

So why get huffy when people don't have the same reaction??

SIGH.....

IIIustriouslyIllogical · 30/04/2018 16:44

Sat here wondering if there is ANYTHING that the 20-30 year olds don't get offended by these days.

Not much, it's what they do.....

YaBasic · 30/04/2018 16:44

Ah Nodnol a guy after my own heart. I have to admit I had It's Got To Be e e e e e Per-fect, in my head just then and thought you were referring to Fairground Attraction Wink
So I youtubed it and whilst I did not know the title, I did know that Ed song. Well. I knew the video. Did not recognise the verse remotely but then lightbulb moment when the chorus kicked in.
C'mon OP you big tease! Don't leave me hanging!! Cake bribe. Unless it was a Prince track in which case YABVVVU Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 30/04/2018 16:46

This reminds me of Mark on Peep Show when he plays Guess the Band at a party.
"If it's not Snow Patrol or The Beatles I'm so fucked" "Can I get away with saying random words and claiming they're bands they've never heard of?" Grin

Please don't say you've never watched Peep Show OP Grin

Waitingonasmiley42 · 30/04/2018 16:46

The only one now coming across as rude is you!

Johnnyfinland · 30/04/2018 16:46

It's not rude. I'm in my 20s and I've said similar to someone of my own age when they professed never to have heard anything by the Beatles

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 30/04/2018 16:47

I've never heard an Ed Sheeran song. Should I bother?

YaBasic · 30/04/2018 16:54

Don't dribble Are you Bev's work colleague?! Wink
I have a soft spot for Mr Ed. Since I discovered Ellie Goulding had deemed him to be a shame-fuck, the cah!
I bloody love the track Bloodstream though - mainly because the video has Ray Liotta in it. (OP says Who?) Wink And Ray loves horses irl.
Also the hobbity song is good. Athough my other half always sings I see dwarves to ruin it.

pigsDOfly · 30/04/2018 16:57

Me neither DontDribble.

But then there's a lot of recent songs I haven't heard as I pretty old (but not sensitive about it).

hiblueblue · 30/04/2018 17:00

I think it’s a bit rude, but I wouldn’t be too rude. If you wanted to be snippy you could always say ‘oh, you’re too young to understand’

She’s older than me

OP posts:
Rudgie47 · 30/04/2018 17:02

No not really.
20s also isnt young, its well into adulthood, a teenager is young.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 30/04/2018 17:02

If you were 60 I could understand you being a bit huffy about it but come on OP Confused

YaBasic · 30/04/2018 17:07

So you are in your 20s and she is somewhat older, and says You're not that young or words to that effect...so a song from what, 1998 onwards??!! Christ, now I feel old.

OliviaStabler · 30/04/2018 17:08

@hiblueblue She wasn't rude, just a bit sharp.

However if you don't tell us the song soon, you might be accused of being rude Wink

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/04/2018 17:08

Does she have form for saying things, which are upsetting because I don’t really get why you’re upset tbh.

TheOriginalEmu · 30/04/2018 17:09

i think given your responses so far OP, that you are somewhat oversensitive generally. I don't think what she was at all rude.

YaBasic · 30/04/2018 17:10

Ooh ooh ooh is it Party Rock Anthem?

diddl · 30/04/2018 17:12

I also have never heard an Ed Sheeran song-or if I have I don't know it's him iyswim.

Also never watched Peep Show-although have heard of it & know that it's David Mitchell & Robert Webb.

BringMeCoffeePlease · 30/04/2018 17:14

That is rude.

But you are over-thinking and being overly sensitive.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 30/04/2018 17:17

It's best to not take yourself so seriously and laugh at yourself sometimes. It's really not a big deal if you can't Name That Tune (70's reference that you've probably never heard of).

I think I'd just laugh off a comment like that and make a mental note not to make her a coffee at break time Wink

OpenthePickles · 30/04/2018 17:17

I don't think she was rude.

You just can't win when it comes to mentioning someone's age. I once 'offended' a 20s something colleague by saying to her "Oh you're still just a young 'un, lucky you". She of course took this to mean that I was implying she was too young to be the bossHmm.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 30/04/2018 17:18

diddll I'm pretty disappointed in you Grin

Glumglowworm · 30/04/2018 17:21

It was a stupid throwaway comment. Yes a bit tactless but really not worth getting your knickers in a twist over!
