Sorry to be a downer.

I'm 48 and I think I look good

pipilangstrumpf · 30/04/2018 13:07

Yes, you definitely can!

mavismcruet · 30/04/2018 13:11

Of course you can. It’s all about confidence. Confidence is a beautiful thing what ever your age. My mum has it. She is in her 70s and still looks good in a swimsuit. Buy the swimsuit x

specialsubject · 30/04/2018 13:12

as good as anyone of any age. bra and knickers isnt a good look for any adult woman regardless of size or age, one piec es are better if cut right. i!e. not disappearing up excretory orifices .

thisishard2 · 30/04/2018 13:12

Thanks Grin. Might buy that swimsuit after all!

Any recommendations for getting rid of cellulite, getting a better posture and toning up ??

No Grin. That’s definitely not a good look Grin.

I’m nearly 48 and wear a bikini! I could probably lose about half a stone to look good in it but I also reason I am on holiday and so will not see anyone I know so who cares?!! I prefer to get a brown stomach!

Nellyphants · 30/04/2018 13:14

Exercise, weights. Lots of wAter, a good diet.

catkind · 30/04/2018 13:19

Wear something you like and enjoy swimming. (Or lounging, or whatever it was you were wanting to do.) Unless you're proposing to do catwalk modelling in it, chances are no-one will give you a second glance except your nearest and dearest, and they'll think you look fab because you are you.

My grandma was far more stylish in her 70s than I ever was in my 20s. Don't think age is any barrier.

Melassa · 30/04/2018 13:20

I'm 51 and still look fairly good in a bikini. Not as good as 20 years earlier at the height of my sportiness and with no CS overhang, but I'm still quite slim and not too many saggy bits have crept in. As a PP said, confidence is the key, my ex MIL is in her 70s and still unashamedly goes to the beach in a bikini.

Melassa · 30/04/2018 13:21

Jillian Michaels is good for pretty instant toning up. Certainly works for me!

TammyWhyNot · 30/04/2018 13:22

I am a lot older than you and wear a bikini on the beach, if I feel like it.

I look like me, same as with all my clothes, but with clothes suitable for swimming and sunbathing. No big deal. I certainly don't look as 'sexy' as I did when I was extremely fit and toned, but I don't look frightening - and what if I did? I look better wearing a swimsuit than I do wearing a bicycle helmet, for example.

thisishard2 · 30/04/2018 13:23

chances are no-one will give you a second glance

Aargh that’s just it isn’t it. No second glances. It’s sad that in the end it comes down to looking passable and that’s it. Or that’s how I am feeling at the moment. Maybe it will get better.

My nearest and dearest consist of sarcastic teenagers and that’s it - can’t say that they are of any great help, what with their suggestions that I go to Weight Watchers (I have about a stone to lose but could get away with losing half a stone) Hmm.

My SiL is almost 50 and looks amazing in a swimsuit. She's slim and toned.

I'm not 40 and look hideous at the moment. Overweight, flabby from recent pregnancy.

thisishard2 · 30/04/2018 13:25

I agree that some people look fantastic regardless. Not trying to knock anyone. Whether they look fantastic or not.

On European beaches no one cares and no one gives anyone else a second glance unless they are young and exceptionally gorgeous.

Really you will be just another person with lumps and bumps.

So just relax and enjoy

thisishard2 · 30/04/2018 13:26

Thanks for all the suggestions. Will definitely try to tone up.

I'm 48 and wear a bikini. Anyway when your on holiday there's so many shapes and sizes in swimwear that you can just blend in. I think Europeans always seem so much more comfortable about their bodies than us British. Think we should take a leaf out of their book.

thisishard2 · 30/04/2018 13:27

And enjoy. My swimsuit is not even for the beach - it’s for the local pool Grin.

MarshaBradyo · 30/04/2018 13:28

Of course

astoundedgoat · 30/04/2018 13:28

Absolutely. Without a doubt. If you are nervous about your tummy at all, black, low backed, high-leg swimsuits are HUGELY in style right now and massively flattering.

Asos has some lovely ones. I got this one and this ring-back one the other day.

They're sooooo nice on - the multi pack one is a bit short in the body which makes it a little tight on me - the ring back is perfect and true to size.

The80sweregreat · 30/04/2018 13:30

No, am over 50 now and dreading a holiday having to wear one.

Idontdowindows · 30/04/2018 13:35

Any recommendations for getting rid of cellulite

Yeah, stop worrying about it. Every woman has it, no matter her weight. It's a scam to get you buying products that don't do anything.

Stand up straight and take your glasses off Grin

Snugglepiggy · 30/04/2018 13:44

Of course you can.Nearly 60 and like to do some proper swimming as well as lounging around on holiday.I've found the Speedo sculpture range really good for making me feel a bit more held in round the tummy area, but still really comfy.I always get the next size up as they are a snug fit.
