Annoying things other posters do

user1485342611 · 27/04/2018 10:24

Just wondering what things other posters do that really annoy you?

For me it's the deliberate misconstruing of an opening post and then flaming the OP for something they never actually said or implied.

Also the posters who conjure up wild scenarios to try and prove the OP is BU - "How do you know the woman who pushed you out of the way at the bus stop wasn't rushing home to her seriously ill child and has only 2p in her purse so couldn't afford a taxi. Try to be kinder and less self absorbed in future".

  1. Whenever there's a thread asking about an issue regarding having a cleaner or private school there's always those who need to have a dig at those who can afford those things - "why waste your money on...", "I don't know anyone who can afford...." "I have no sympathy for anyone who can afford..."
  1. Always assuming that a "hidden disability", SN, ASD is the reason why someone is acting inconsiderately
  1. Starting threads about really trivial things eg can I park here, can I take this back to a shop etc. Do you really need random people on the internet to make day to day decisions for you.
lostinjapan · 27/04/2018 14:42

Anyone who uses 'quirky'/'hilarious' phrases like wankbadger or cockwomble. And any amateur comedians on here in general - 99% of the time they're completely unfunny.

Anyone who self-diagnoses themselves or others with conditions like misophonia or narcisstic personality disorder.

The overuse (and often misuse) of cool feministy buzzwords/phrases like 'mansplaining', 'male gaze' and 'toxic masculinity'. Like it is actually possible for a man to explain something to a woman without being a mansplainer. And I just hate buzzwords in general - why not talk in plain English?

People who say 'interesting first post OP'. Firstly, because it's a snarky turn of phrase. Secondly because (unless I'm missing something) how can you tell if it's someone's first post? People name change all the time.

Adayindisney67 · 27/04/2018 14:43

People who pick apart spellings and typos..
Unless of course they're paticulary bad, just back off! We aren't all perfect at English. Some people actually struggle. It doesn't make you more or less intelligent. So picking it apart to win an argument makes you look full of yourself 👍

Joy1982 · 27/04/2018 14:46

Those people that are crazy about food and think anyone that eats more than 7 calories a day are greedy.

derxa · 27/04/2018 14:46

The constant advocacy of 'critical thinking'. Which usually means they're a superior twat who thinks they know everything and other (stupid and uneducated) people make decisions based on uninformed emotional reactions.
It always reminds me of educational fads such as learning styles and Brain gym which have now been discredited.
Of course I could be wrong Wink

SayCoolNowSayWhip · 27/04/2018 14:46

People who don't rtft
"I haven't read the whole thread but here's my well thought out opinion which now means nothing because I haven't read all the relevant points." Great, thanks for your input Hmm

Posters who accuse the OP of drip feeding, when it's impossible to include every facet of your situation in the first post.

And on the flip, posters who then complain that the OP is too long - "Sorry, you lost me after the eighteenth paragraph..."

You can't bloody win!

iterativeConstruct · 27/04/2018 14:48

People who pick apart spellings and typos..

Was that supposed to be an ellipsis or a full stop?

DollyLlama · 27/04/2018 14:49

People who have a big run up on a thread then don't post the outcome.

allthgoodusernamesaretaken · 27/04/2018 14:50

What's your AIBU, OP?

user1485342611 · 27/04/2018 14:55

Poster who are over invested in AIBU can be annoying as well. Highly indignant if they suspect an innocuous thread is a reverse, or made up or whatever. Just click off. Or who go trawling through a posters old posts like Miss Marple to find some 'evidence' that they're not being fully truthful, or used to hold a different view or even, shock horror, have started three other threads this week complaining about something that annoyed them so they're obviously just a contrary old moan bag.

I do wonder about the lives of posters like that.

OP posts:
Winterfellismyhome · 27/04/2018 14:56

"How old are you OP? You sound quite young"

fuck off with that patronising crap

lostinjapan · 27/04/2018 14:56

Oh and also people who use the phrase 'Daily Fail'.

Or who apologise for having linked to a Mail Online story.

Or who 'would never read the Daily Mail' yet have a suspiciously detailed knowledge of the paper and the stories they print.

Or who attack the Daily Mail for the way they've reported a story, when actually the Mirror, the Independent and the local newspapers have reported the story in exactly the same way. But you're not aware that those other newspapers have written exactly the same thing, because you don't read them. Because you only read the Mail Online, even though you say you hate it Confused

Lizzie48 · 27/04/2018 15:02

I quite like the phrase 'Daily Fail' personally. I kind of think those posters who complain about it actually quite enjoy seeing the thread in there. If they really had a problem with it, then they wouldn't post on Mumsnet, when they know there's a chance it will end up in there.

Sleepyblueocean · 27/04/2018 15:03

Bitch ploppers and thread police ( this thread is not about...).

MsGameandWatching · 27/04/2018 15:03

"Why did you have a baby with him then?" With no other advice or support offered. What's the point? There's a hundred different answers to that question and asking a distraught and unhappy OP to justify the choice to have a child/children that she will obviously love very much is just such a judgey, sneery thing to do.

OPs that start "So,......"

MsGameandWatching · 27/04/2018 15:09

"Reported!"

Bore off. Just report and leave it that. You sound like a goody goody prefect out of a boarding school book.

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 15:09

The ones that jump in with the " do you have anxiety do you need help - get help" ( op said - I'm worried about my dc catching norivirius - everyone else in family has it and baby born underweight)

The posters who every single time come onto MIL issue ops and belittle the op.

These posters are well known now, and look utterly heartless and foolish These are usually classic mil posts where a nice dil - has had her boundaries trampled all over, her dh may or may not support her but they are on the brink of divorce. Because a pig headed mad woman wont control herself over her son or gc and the usual suspect comes on with trite smug remarks. Oh but has admitted themselves they have a good enough relationship with their mil!

IamPeas · 27/04/2018 15:10

"My ds stole a satsuma from the fruit bowl despite having 3 peas, a carrot stick and a slice of apple for lunch... how do I deal with this?"

There are loads of these at the moment - but then you get

"OP that isn't nearly enough for a 3yr old, my ds is 6 months and eats 2 whole chickens, 15 potatoes and 2 packets of biscuits and that's just 1 of his snacks"

Also "red flag", "LTB", and the general 'all men are bastards and will have cheated, you just haven't found out yet' responses

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 15:10

Grin @ lostinjapan, so funny.

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 15:13

Oh goodness the posts that jump in with TROLL or - this cant be true when its OBVIOUSLY A LIGHTHEARTED FUN THREAD written for ENTERTAINMENT

remember that - this forum is also for FUN and laughs...does it matter if you dont believe someone has burnt the cakes or that a man called BRIAN WANTS TO GIVE US A YONI MASSAGE Grin

its so intensely annoying ...troll troll, I call troll - no one would want to give me a yoni massage called Brian, no one in Hull is called Brian I know I live there, TROLL TROLL . Angry

Lighten up people....Mums, people - need a laugh too!!

chestylarue52 · 27/04/2018 15:20

Of course I could be wrong wink

Critical thinking dates from Socrates, it’s not comparable to Brain Gym!

FusRoDah · 27/04/2018 15:21

Posting purely to placemark.

Impatient posts: "any update OP?" half an hour after the last update. Chances are OP has a real life outside MN.

Also people bumping their own thread with "Anyone??" two minutes after posting it.

Typos in the thread title that mean it makes no sense. Even if you are in a rush to start a thread, at least proofread the title FFS!

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/04/2018 15:26

People who say "typical mumsnetter/average mumsnetter". There's no such thing, it's Confirmation Bias in action.

Reverses. Both OPs and individual posts. Argue you own fucking position and leave it to those who disagree to argue their's.Angry

Buzzlightyearsbumchin · 27/04/2018 15:28

People 'popping' everywhere.

Pop a cardi on

Pop it in the oven

Pop it in the post

Pop pop fucking pop. It riles me.

Also ending a post with 'discuss' or 'rant over' irritates me.

I do miss people being incandescent with rage though. Everyone around these parts used to be incandescent, now they just fume Sad

OliviaStabler · 27/04/2018 15:33

Those who have an axe to grind about a particular subject who weigh in on unrelated threads:

OP: Can some recommended a good wax to remove public hair?

PP: Lots of helpful answers

Axe grinder: Why do you want to remove your pubic hair? Is your DH attracted to pre pubescent girls?
