Annoying things other posters do

Just wondering what things other posters do that really annoy you?

For me it's the deliberate misconstruing of an opening post and then flaming the OP for something they never actually said or implied.

Also the posters who conjure up wild scenarios to try and prove the OP is BU - "How do you know the woman who pushed you out of the way at the bus stop wasn't rushing home to her seriously ill child and has only 2p in her purse so couldn't afford a taxi. Try to be kinder and less self absorbed in future".

The ‘mind your own business’ brigade.

When posters are pointing out that ‘the replies would be different if the roles were reversed’, there’s always that one hero that pipes up ‘well my response would be the same, male or female’.
Yet you never see them on ‘my dh cheated/swore/was a knob’ threads, pointing out there are two sides to every story.

I agree with the teacher comments. My first post here (name changed long since) was attacked by a teacher who put over 20 posts on the thread in one evening saying mostly the same thing - that I was fucking bitch for daring to say there might be something wrong with a teacher at my DC's school.

Someone came to my rescue and I am eternally grateful. Once they did, others joined in and told the (very regular) poser to knock it off.

I was told some valuable advice - if you have a query or complaint about teachers or schools, don't post on the holidays, weekends or after school hours. Post when teachers are not on the boards and with time for the thread to die down before they get on the boards in the evening. Then don't read your thread after 5 o clock.

POPholditdown · 27/04/2018 15:37

OP: Can some recommended a good wax to remove public hair?

And the MN jobsworths who call the OP a troll/pervert for daring to ask!

IamPeas · 27/04/2018 15:40

Golassee this made me think of you!

zzzzz - someone will be along to point out the spelling mistake soon.

People who don't RTFT (I have RTFT so I know this has been raised before). It is so rude, and quite arrogant that you can swan in and say something new after days and hundreds of posts without having even bothered to check the OP's update posts. It derails and interrupts the later discussion.

People who harangue women in vulnerable situations to LTB immediately. And then turn on them and accuse them of damaging their children, not taking advice. The posters start to talk about the OP 'OP hasn't been back' 'no, she's probably just gone home and let him get away with it' 'pathetic' etc etc. It takes an abused woman time to step into out of her relationship to pick herself up. Not everyone has somewhere to go, Women's Aid don't actually always answer the phone there and then, and WA do advise people not to harangue and pressurise abused women.

Starting posts with 'So' (minor irritation). And hypocritical since...
People who pick up on spelling and grammar, especially when a poster is in distress.

Being unnecessarily rude. Poster asks a question. 'The clue is on the name'. so snotty. And actually it isn't straightforward and you are not as witty as you think you sound.

Crowd · 27/04/2018 15:51

"Why are you posting on mn if you don't have children?"

derxa · 27/04/2018 15:58

Critical thinking dates from Socrates, it’s not comparable to Brain Gym! I stand corrected. Grin

FrancisUnderwood · 27/04/2018 15:58

Posters who manage to shoehorn 'Brexit' into every thread.

OP: I think i'll call my new cat Mr Tibbs
Poster: Might as well before Brexit happens

OP: I'm thinking of 'oyster' as a bridesmaid colour
Poster: You'd choose different after Brexit

OP: I'm having Brie for tea
Poster: You won't be able to once Brexit has happened.

BREXIT BORES!

FrancisUnderwood · 27/04/2018 15:59

I realise I have now, unwittingly, shoehorned Brexit into this thread.

expatinscotland · 27/04/2018 16:00

'Bloke here' 'As a man'

Placemarking/shameless placemarking which then brings the thread to 1000 and shuts it down.

Suggesting that anyone behaving like a twat has ASD or mental illness.

Get to your GP asap! For everything. Erm, he/she is a doctor, not Gandalf.

The orthorexia threads are batshit. 'I could never eat that much!' 'People only need 10 calories a day!'

leggere · 27/04/2018 16:03

Yikes! I'm almost too scared to post any more on MN after this lot! almost GrinWink

derxa · 27/04/2018 16:04

Posters who manage to shoehorn 'Brexit' into every thread. Trump as well. Jimmy Savile pops up quite frequently when people talk about enjoying the 1970's.

Lizzie48 · 27/04/2018 16:06

People who just post YABU without explaining why. They're just sheep piling in to attack the OP. Same with YANBU. Explain why you think so.

derxa · 27/04/2018 16:08

chesty I looked up critical thinking after your comment today so have learned something useful.

AllThatMatters · 27/04/2018 16:20

Threads that give dangerous advice.
"i'm bleeding very heavily and it wont stop, should i go to A&E"
"No A & E is for accidents and emergencys only. Go to a walk-in centre or make an appointment with your doctor in 3 weeks time"

pilates · 27/04/2018 16:24

SPAG police
Posters that twist a thread and make it all about them and their situation

leggere · 27/04/2018 16:25

When the OP has a think, then agrees with posters, thanks them and goes off into the sunset. Everyone just carries on telling op she's wrong, not even noticing she's agreed. The replies can go on for days then suddenly, someone asks where is the op? bet she's ignoring our advice, etc. Annoying, but hilarious! My bedtime readingSmile

AlonsoTigerHeart · 27/04/2018 16:27

If you can twitch your toe and use your phone then you dont have the flu.

Are the spouters of this shite ever medical people? No

THE FLU HAS DIFFERENT STRAINS NOT ALL OF THE RENDER PEOPLE TO BED REST.

POPholditdown · 27/04/2018 16:29

The posters who recommend sending a letter to explain how they feel. To a nearby friend or relative no less!

The only letters I expect these days are from the council or the NHS.

derxa · 27/04/2018 16:30

Yesterday someone posted a goady OP about Ruth Davidson's pregnancy and the thread was totally in favour of RD and said what a good egg she was. It was lighthearted but then the OP got it deleted.
I don't know why MN do that when the thread turns out to be nice.

MrsJayy · 27/04/2018 16:43

I saw the Ruth Davidson thead went puff !! There was a long winded deletion message that was just odd.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 27/04/2018 17:18

'I've just shown this thread to my DH and he thinks'

Couldn't give a fuck mate.

Taylia · 27/04/2018 17:21

Agree with the “popping” I’ll also add “bung”, “chuck” and “throw” into the mix. Especially when talking about putting something in the oven. What’s wrong with “put”?

Competitive tiny eaters, “that’s what your 18 month old eats? That would last me all day and I still wouldn’t need breakfast the next day” fuck off.

Or “I can make a chicken feed a family of 8 for 14 meals plus sandwiches and I still have leftovers to freeze” again, fuck off.

“Simples”. It’s dead, leave it alone!

LightDrizzle · 27/04/2018 17:23

OP: Not judging, but why do people do X?

MN: loads of posts giving rational and unobjectionable reasons for doing X

OP: increasingly goady posts desperately trying to corral the doing of X into being unreasonable/snobbish/xenophobic/selfish/entitled/lazy.

They never seem to post to say fair enough, I never thought of that.

Taylia · 27/04/2018 17:24

Forgot one.

The “show them this thread” brigade. Why would you want the poster to lose something that is possibly their only outlet.
