If not woorse, they both seem very clueless and it's embarrassing that they hold important positions and shadows.

Incompetent is an understatement

I think since politics became a career like banking and PPE became the most competitive degree at top unis, the standard of politicians has deteriorated in this country.

Politics should not be a career you enter at 21 post-uni with fuck all knowledge of the world, yet it seems a majority of politicians now have done just that. Never lived one day amongst the people they claim to represent. It's just an extraordinarily well-paid job with amazing perks that we'd all jump at given half a chance.

Great job, but good leaders it does not and will not make. Omnishambles.

OliviaStabler · 27/04/2018 01:06

She would be far worse.

unitedcountriesofindia · 27/04/2018 04:03

I really dislike how left-wing parties use race and racism to win votes. It provides credibility to far-right racism and also makes a mockery of western democracy a.k.a. populism.

qwertyuiopy · 27/04/2018 04:17

Dianne Abbot is a joke, so unprofessional. She reminds me of someone I knew at work once who would just make things up in meetings if she didn’t know that answer to a question. All image and no substance, amateurish and ridiculous. It caused chaos.

Believeitornot · 27/04/2018 06:58

Boris gets just as much of criticism, if you take of the identity politics glasses you will see that if she was in any other political party, and acted exactly the same as she has throughout her political career she would still be ridiculed for being a trainwreck

No he doesn’t. He’s ended up as mayor of London and as a cabinet member ffs.

That’s my point. DA is awful. So is Boris. Boris is portrayed a a bit of a silly buffoon whereas Dianne is seen as “thick as shit” etcetc etc. The insults are far far more awful.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 27/04/2018 07:00

Hmm...I don’t think Dianne Abbott comes across well, but she is a fabulous MP who works her arse off for her constituents. If she put that level of commitment into a cabinet post, she could be much more effective than Amber fucking Rudd

Nomorechickens · 27/04/2018 07:14

Diane Abbott is not perfect but I don't think she'd let her department threaten to deport British citizens... And I do think she gets way more than her fair share of abuse for being black and a woman.

You lot are very negative, on the positive side how about Angela Rayner, Jess Phillips, Anna Soubery, Keir Starmer, David Lammy, James Cleverly (if TV performance were all you needed, he should be PM)?

jasjas1973 · 27/04/2018 07:29

@Justanotherlurker

Owen Jones who apparently is above populism NO apparently you should nt be mentioning him lol!

You are v funny, maybe change your user name to "oneruleforme?"

Hammond had no excuse for his gaff, unlike any member of the shadow cabinet, Hammond, Rudd and Boris are IN power and can make and shape decisions affecting us all, Abbot and Owen Jones cannot.

Thymeout · 27/04/2018 09:11

Is there any objective evidence for DA being 'a fabulous constituency MP'? Until Corbyn became leader, she was known mainly for being a high-profile political TV commentator with Portillo. Like Corbyn, she spent a lot of time in Stop the War-type activism. She seems to have come rather late to the Windrush scandal, unlike David Lammy from a neighbouring constituency. He was alerted by problems faced by his constituents and ran with it. I'd have expected to have heard more from her at an earlier stage if she was that good an MP.

Totally agree, Labour in general are just letting the Government off the hook on so many things.
Explains why the Tories are so far ahead in the polls.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/04/2018 10:02

There are no statesmen or women in politics now, no one in whom to have any confidence. No one with credibility, integrity or, apparently, intelligence. Vince Cable speaks well, but is never going to be able to have influence.

Ohmydayslove · 27/04/2018 10:07

I agree with everyone really. I accept Dianne probably does get more stick but she is utterly hopeless and deserves all she gets but equally Boris should hsve more. He’s a disgraceful incompetent and my only consultation is I think people can see the twat for what he if now and he won’t get control.

Going ahead I would love Yvette and other sensible MPs to form a centre party. I think it’s too late now though.

My fear is May will m as up Brexit. Loose the next election and Corbyn will completely and utterly dedicate the economy, the best will piss off abroad and we will n back to the dreadful 70s or early 80s with riots when people understand that it’s not going to b the land of milk and honey under labour.

Then maybe we will get a huge shake up both sides and better leaders.

qwertyuiopy · 27/04/2018 10:23

I don't think Boris is incompetent. I think it's an act. He won a scholarship to study at Eton and one to read Classics at Oxford.

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 10:29

A long long time ago I used to like Diane abbot and felt she spoke sense. Now I can't bear her and it's nothing to do with her sex or colour Confused.

It's do to with her views and how she comes across.. In that Tony Blair slightly exasperated.. Talking to small children... Who don't quite understand voice..

SunwheretheFareyou · 27/04/2018 10:30

Shame the actual human face of labor ie frank field is lost... But

LifeBeginsAtGin · 27/04/2018 10:32

AIBU To think Dianne Abbott will be just as bad as amber Rudd

No. Amber Rudd is coherent.

I'm no Labour supporter but David Lammy is by far a better politician than DA. She had to be pulled out of the election campaign due to being utterly useless, then she's let back in again. Yvette Cooper is a great politician too.

qwertyuiopy · 27/04/2018 10:36

"In that Tony Blair slightly exasperated.. Talking to small children... Who don't quite understand voice.."

I hear that but think it is bravado, like a bad Thatcher impression lol! I think it her reaction to knowing that people think she is a fool, trying to act knowledgeable on the surface but paddling like a sinking duck underneath.

Ohmydayslove · 27/04/2018 10:36

Yes don’t sgree there qwerty intellectual success doesn’t always equate with comments sense and general competence.

My dsis has a masters degreein English but every other sphere of her life she’s a utter twat.

Educated fool as my gran used to say.

I used to like Dianne too but like all in the far left and the far right they are entrenched in their own echo chambers and talk amongst themselves ignoring the general voting public.

Hence the utter shock of Brexit by the metropolita elite of London. Both sides

ghostyslovesheets · 27/04/2018 10:37

Frank Field - human? Blimey! the man who coined the term 'underclass' and who has disdain for the people he supposedly serves?

Ohmydayslove · 27/04/2018 10:42

I despair I really do.

Do you think it’s too late for a new centre left party?

I just see utter incompetence from both sides. What a crew

qwertyuiopy · 27/04/2018 10:50

ghosty Read wirralleaks.wordpress.com/ for the word about Frank Fields and cronies.

It's terrifying.

ghostyslovesheets · 27/04/2018 10:51

oh thanks qwerty I will - I am Wirral born and bred and know him well - I have never been a fan

Thymeout · 27/04/2018 11:05

I don't know whether pps remember the Gang of Four and the SDP? They broke away under Foot's leadership, largely over Europe, and later combined with the Libs to be the Lib Dems.

They had some initial success but the main effect of a centrist party was to split the Labour vote. It's a different situation now, of course. The LP membership didn't elect Foot, one man, one vote. And the SDP were a minority among the PLP. Now anyone with £3 can vote for leader and the PLP (and Labour voters) have been marginalised, even tho' the vast majority are anti-Corbyn, at least until the Corbynista get serious about de-selection.

I think the only threat to Corbyn is from the far Left. It's what they do. Factionalise and split. Corbyn is getting on a bit now. His student supporters will grow up and get on with their lives. McDonnell is beginning to distance himself. There is already a problem in Momentum between Lansman and the AWL/SWP members. Lansman initially stood against Formby, the UNITE nominee for the Gen Sec. election. MCluskey is getting too big for his boots and contradicting the Corbyn line over anti-semitism. It's not a good look to have a Union boss so prominent in the inner circle. None of the UNITE choices for successor seem to be making much ground, e.g. Rebecca Long-Bailey.

But it's all going to take such a long time....

Ohmydayslove · 27/04/2018 15:14

Thymeout

I remember the Gang of Four and I agree with your whole post

endofthelinefinally · 27/04/2018 15:44

I know a student who is determined to have a career in politics. Academically clever. Heavily involved in Momentum. Studying economics and politics at university. Intends to go straight into an internship in Westminster.
Does not have a single iota of common sense, empathy, compassion or real life experience.
This is how it is going and it is terrifying.
