Royal Baby name making me rage

ItWillAllBeFine · 25/04/2018 21:46

Firstly, I know that I am ridiculous and unreasonable and totally over invested but it is GIVING ME THE ABSOLUTE RAGE that the Royals haven't released the name of the baby yet. I'm sure they are doing it deliberately just to exercise the tiny scraping of power they actually have over us. They are doing evil laughs behind the curtains of Buck House and saying "let the commoners wait..."

OP posts:

I think they usually wait a couple of days - like most of us they want to be sure the name suits the child.
Also, the Anzac remembrance events were taking place yesterday and William, Harry, Charles and Anne were attending various events and I imagine they did not want the name to become the discussion there out of respect for the events.
I wonder also if they are trying to be low key given what is happening in Liverpool.

Oowatchasay · 26/04/2018 11:44

In the press the Royal Baby news totally overshadowed the horrible attack in Toronto too. Even my OH text me saying there were pages and pages about the baby in his paper but hardly anything on Toronto.

TheKimJongUnofFeminism · 26/04/2018 11:46

“Why do you think they want Alfred? It’s not a family favourite on either side. The last Prince Alfred (grandson of Queen Victoria) embarrassed the family and died in unhappy circumstances. It’s not impossible, of course, but doesn’t seem to be obviously their style, from what we know of it.”
Freddie does fit their style though.

Joanna57 · 26/04/2018 11:49

Please not Alfred - common as muck.

Albert - Bert - Bertie - boring.

Most other names on here are already in use with the other Royal children.

Philip would be lovely, but unlikely because of Philippa.

I like Louis or Lewis.

Cutesbabasmummy · 26/04/2018 11:49

My BIL and SIL left until the last day before they legally had to register the birth on all three occasions!! I mean, they'd had 9 months in each case to think about it!!

sashh · 26/04/2018 11:50

I reckon Kate is a big fan of pointless, and wills is blocking Richard, so she is calling him her 'pointless prince'.

I think if they do go for Albert he will be known as Bertie, just like Prince Henry is known as Harry.

BarbarianMum · 26/04/2018 11:51

Is that really very likely given that there are hundreds of boys names out there but they are restricted to about 10?

Fluffycloudland77 · 26/04/2018 11:52

I reckon they’ll wait until he’s met the queen.

TheKimJongUnofFeminism · 26/04/2018 11:53

“Please not Alfred - common as muck.“

Really? Less than 600 last year......out of 300,000 baby boys.

willynillypie · 26/04/2018 12:01

I am enraged and massively over-invested because I want confirmation that it isn't our chosen baby name for DS who arrives shortly.

Oysterbabe · 26/04/2018 12:01

I feel weirdly impatient to know the name too even though I don't really care.

I also feel mildly irritated that Andy Murray never announced the name of their second daughter but did the first. I don't care but because he won't tell us, I want to know.

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/04/2018 12:01

I read Alfred being 'common as muck' as Joanna considering it downmarket, not popular, which I disagree with anyway. I would say that it is either classless or quite posh really, and perfectly suitable for baby prince.

But I do think the posters who say that they may think it is inappropriate to use this name because of Alfie Evans may be right, sadly. But it might not even have been on their list anyway.

FizzyGreenWater · 26/04/2018 12:05

I think Alfred = common as muck refers to the BILLIONS of Alfies currently running around. Alfie is the short form, although I doubt a lot of parents of Alfies actually use that or even realise it.

So that's what an Alfred would be in the press at least. Prince Alfie. Err no.

Alfred may be an old name and certainly approvable, but no way is that going to happen with the popularity of Alfie - it's in no way even 'posh' and it's massively overused. And especially not with the Alfie Evans situation currently running.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 26/04/2018 12:08

Loving the posters coming onto the thread to let us know that they have no-interest-whatsoever in the new baby's name. If it's such a non-issue for them, why on earth would you open such a clearly titled thread?

To offer their point of view on the subject? Create a bit of to-and-fro? Pretty standard really.

HairyToity · 26/04/2018 12:10

I think it will be Philip or Rupert. No idea on middle names.

FizzyGreenWater · 26/04/2018 12:16

Oh I thought of common as muck as referring to popularity too.

However to be brutally honest the other meaning also applies. Alfie (even if for Alfred) is now totally overused and basically that translates as less middle class, for want of a better term, for those to whom such things matter. And it's not about the horrid 'c' word I think. I think there are two ways this works. You have names which are viewed as downmarket or nastily sneered at as they are non-traditional - the 'younique' names, Americanised names, surname names, that kind of thing. Then you get names like Alfie which have a traditional root but become suddenly popular with a quite 'newbie' short form as the main name. So they start off as being interesting and quite cool and there aren't many around. And then popularity explodes and because there are absolutely loads of them, the name is then viewed as hackneyed and boring and therefore moves 'downmarket'.

Gennz18 · 26/04/2018 12:19

It won't be Rupert as I think Kate's boyfriend pre William was a Rupert

betrays embarrassingly extensive knowledge of useless Royal info

Picking Arthur or Alfred with Phillip as a middle name.

Thomas would be my pick but prob not regal enough for them.

Yes I have given this extensive thought 😳

Gennz18 · 26/04/2018 12:20

I think Alexander and Louis are out as they are George's middle names.

YuleABUnREASTIEable · 26/04/2018 12:23

In my head I’m imagining wills and kate going to the queen to check she’s happy with the name (do they have to do this? I’m not sure but I like to imagine they do) and she doesn’t like it so they have to go back to the drawing board and think of another.

Oowatchasay · 26/04/2018 12:26

I doubt it will be Phillip when he is still alive, it would be a bit rude Grin

Dapplegrey · 26/04/2018 12:26

I imagine Pippa and Kate would go on Netmums rather than here.

I hope they don't come on here as there have been some hurtful comments. Prince George is a little shit, Prince William is hideous etc etc.
I thought it was considered bad form on mn to criticise people's looks?
I would be extremely upset if someone called one of my dc a little shit. What a horrible thing to say about a child.

Oowatchasay · 26/04/2018 12:27

Unless they're just going to wait until he dies to announce it...awkward

DemoKritic · 26/04/2018 12:28

It'll be Louis Edward. Wink

FairfaxAikman · 26/04/2018 12:28

@BarbarianMum unfortunately our choice has been used by the royals before, so it is a possibility.

Not all of us go for yooneek names.

Oowatchasay · 26/04/2018 12:28

Me too, and I'm not even sure where the idea comes from? I have three children ages 5,3 and 2 and getting them to behave in public as George and Charlotte do is pretty impressive in my opinion. Particularly loved the wedding photos in which Catherine looked like she was telling them off through gritted teeth Grin solidarity!
