For being bitterly disappointed at the language and attitudes of people on MN lately?

I started using MN for support when I was going through hard times, hopefully supporting people when they were going through their hard times, learn new things, catch up with news etc. Lately however every thread I go on seems to be one big fight session. People are either being purposefully nasty or having a go at anyone who disagrees with their opinion - foul language included in the bundle. Is this really what this site is turning in to? Surely everyone is entitled to an opinion and surely if you don't agree and can't be mature about you should follow my mother's advice 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all'.

Def not a MN thing!...I thought Fark was pretty widespread amongst those of us who'd rather use a softer word?

ScottishThistle · 14/05/2007 17:00

I'm partial to feckin heck!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 17:01

I think it's sort of a jokey cockney x chav speak.. and of course had the bonus of not actually being a swear word.

Have you come across "twunt" yet? We like twunt immensely

(Now who's the lezza? )

[Disclaimer: Offence to genuine lezzas in unintentional]

DimpledThighs · 14/05/2007 17:01

I'm not a lurker. You all "know" me.

I started a thread like this a bit ago. I think it's very rude to tell posters to "fuck off" when they are making a point. Yes you might have heard it all before, but perhaps, just perhaps the fact that you have heard it all before means that they have a tiny point?

People feel freer to be rude for some reason. Like Mumsnet is just another forum where you can nip in, tell someone to "fuck off" if you don't like their post, then go and do the dishes and think nothing of that person you've just insulted.

Only Mumsnet isn't just another forum. It's a community of people who meet up from time to time, who feel that they've made friendships on here albeit of the online variety.

We've always had heated debates but at least people would then post proper posts whilst, although they could be insulting they at least made an attempt at an argument. Now we just see one-liners of the insulting kind with no other explanation. And this is meant to be funny. Like there is some kind of competition on to produce the most insulting one-liners.

So yes, I agree with those who say it has changed. It is ruder and more nasty. And I don't have to change my name to say that.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 17:04

Fio, you are just faaaar to pregnant to have any-kind-of-sex with anyone aren't you? (so probably depserate too!)

ScottishThistle · 14/05/2007 17:05

Overwhelming desire to scratch my name on here with a broken ruler!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 17:06

Oh dear.

Rhubarb just came with her detention folder..

mummydoit · 14/05/2007 17:07

Mamazon, I think you make some really excellent points and you have me laughing out loud at the (((hugs))) comment (especially as I do visit a forum that does just that!).

Rhubarb · 14/05/2007 17:07

Sorry shiny to spoil the tone, but I just read the OP and a few responses to it and thought that she has a very good point and I agree with her.

As a regular I thought I would stick up for whoever it was, newbie or not.

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 14/05/2007 17:08

There are lots of (((huggers)) on here. I am one of them. I flit serenely from thread to threat alternately telling people to fark off or hugging them
