Is it cheeky to take a jacket back (unworn) and rebuy it with a money off voucher?

I will go with the majority on this one. Be kind please...

No YANBU I would definitely do it.

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:03

In the same transaction or would you walk round the shop and put your sunglasses on in between

Excited101 · 25/04/2018 16:04

I would absolutely 100% do that

DramaAlpaca · 25/04/2018 16:05

I wouldn't quite have the cojones to do it in the same transaction, but I'd certainly have a walk around & go back to buy it again, flourishing my voucher. I'd be hoping for a different sales assistant at the till.

Borris · 25/04/2018 16:05

I’d do it in the same transaction

MumW · 25/04/2018 16:05

Definitely cheeky but I'd probably do it Wink

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:06

Thank you all :o. It is on! All in the name of £5 off

ClumsyFool · 25/04/2018 16:07

Do it! I know different stores have different rules on these things but I’m in retail and we would allow this. No harm in trying, just be friendly and polite is all I would advise.

winewellies · 25/04/2018 16:08

Folk used to do this loads when I was in Retail ....just be upfront about it , we know what you're doing (although bear in mind they don't have to refund you unless it's faulty ....but most places do these days )

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:08

Thank you :)

mehhh · 25/04/2018 16:09

I would definitely do this!

HopeAndJoy16 · 25/04/2018 16:09

I've done it where I bought a coat online from debenhams, it arrived and then had an email for a discount or sale (I can't remember which) so I returned the original and then bought it again in store. Bit of a faff but I saved a decent amount. I would totally return and then use a money off voucher but not in the same transaction!

Patienceofatoddler · 25/04/2018 16:19

For £5 no I wouldn't...

Not because I would be embarrassed but time is money to - The hassle of going the the shop to do this wouldn't be worth it.

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:20

I am going anyway, and I won't be going back any time soon which is why I want to do it in the same transaction

OP posts:
TheIsland · 25/04/2018 16:21

I did this once. I’d do it again but would probably order the alternative online if the voucher let me.

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:23

And I happened to find the receipt which is unusual for me

TSSDNCOP · 25/04/2018 16:25

You are perfectly within your rights to do so. Whistles put £39 back in my account in their last 20% promo. Makes me an even better customer as I’ll likely take that £39 plus more back. The only time Ive ever had trouble was in M&S.

StealthPolarBear · 25/04/2018 16:26

Oh :( guess where I'm going

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 25/04/2018 16:26

I did something similar with a bikini that I had bought and not worn (still had labels on). Went back to the shop and it was reduced. Bought it at reduced price and took the original one back (the reduced ones have the red spot on).

woodpecker2 · 25/04/2018 16:30

I did a similar thing in Go outdoors as they reduced some walking boots I had just brought. I explained to the lady on the till what I was doing and she refunded the difference without hesitation.

halfwitpicker · 25/04/2018 16:31

Do it.

RingtheBells · 25/04/2018 16:32

Yes buy the cheaper one first to make sure you have it and it fits, M&S stuff can vary a bit and then return the more expensive, I often do this.

RingtheBells · 25/04/2018 16:34

In the same transaction, no point in faffing Grin

SandAndSea · 25/04/2018 16:34

I don't think this is especially cheeky. If it's worth your time and you feel fine about it, I can't see a problem really.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 25/04/2018 16:35

Of course, who wouldn’t? But definitely buy the alternative first and make sure it fits.
