AIBU about cucumber

TellMeItsNotTrue · 25/04/2018 13:32

I never thought that there was a right or wrong way to eat cucumber, but my friend says the way I have it is weird

I think the way she has it is odd but not really bothered because it's just cucumber, who cares? She won't let it go though so we are turning it over to MN to find out which is more common way of eating cucumber

A) Eaten whole, biting in to it like a banana
B) Sliced on salad/sandwich or in strips for snack/with lunch
C) Other way of eating it?

Here's a fun trick that makes my Exed OH wince.

Take a rigid, turgid cucumber. Hold it by both ends, firmly, and snap it in half.

BennyTheBall · 25/04/2018 14:26

My son eats them all ways.

He’ll go into the greenhouse in the summer and pick one and eat the entire thing, like a banana.

And, he can eat about 5 of the mini ones in one sitting.

downthestrada · 25/04/2018 14:28

I do B but my DH regularly does A. He will just eat a whole cucumber like it's a banana.

ToadOfSadness · 25/04/2018 14:28

I sometimes cut off a big chunk and eat it like a banana if I don't have time to make a salad.

I also:
Slice it for sandwiches
Cut it into chunks for salads
Chop it for Israeli style salads or for Tzatziki
Cut it into batons for dips/humous

There is also a recipe that involves grating or shredding it and mixing with cream and vinegar, it is interesting but rich.

Gemini69 · 25/04/2018 14:33

Gemini those you tube vids of cats jumping at cucumbers are hilarious. Tried it with mine (rag doll) and she just stepped over it and walked off

darn it.. I was hoping they were true stories lol lol Grin

SistersOfPercy · 25/04/2018 14:36

DD...A and add an option D. She somehow (and christ knows how) manages to eat it and hollow it out leaving the skin. It's a hell of a talent.

mrsdoglover · 25/04/2018 14:38

I've done both, sliced if its going on a sandwich/in a salad. Like a banana if I'm just hungry.

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 25/04/2018 14:44

Smack them. The best way to eat cucumbers is to eat "smacked cucumber" :)

FloydOnThePull · 25/04/2018 14:44

Option A people - do you cut a bit off, eat the whole cucumber, or bite bits off and put the rest back in the fridge with teeth marks in?

bluerunningshoes · 25/04/2018 14:46

sliced or cubed for salad and sandwiches
grated for dips

always peeled as it makes me burp otherwise

livelyredjellybean · 25/04/2018 14:47

A makes me think of the BFG and snozcumbers....

SecretIsland · 25/04/2018 14:47

I don't think anyone would actually just bite it and put it back! You just cut a chunk off, like you'd cut a slice of cheese or tart or cheesecake (or anything) and then put the rest back.

trippingup · 25/04/2018 14:48

My DP is an A - strange! He chucks it whole in the kids lunches boxes?! Me - always B.

SillyLittleBiscuit · 25/04/2018 14:50

A is weird, B is normal (imo) C, I also sometimes cut it into 2" chunks, slice in half and eat covered in salt.

SleightOfMind · 25/04/2018 14:50

My dog does (A) then throws them up.
But then she is a dog and not the brightest canine in the park to boot.
Your friend is mildly odd, not for eating cucumbers like dogs do, but for insisting that people who eat like humans are peculiar.

Casually leave a dentastick near her next time and report back.

Padfootprongs · 25/04/2018 14:52

Haha I've never heard of anyone eating a cucumber like a banana, I might have to try it! Definitely B though

PuppyMonkey · 25/04/2018 14:53

A is outrageous imho. I can only eat cucumber sliced wafer thin. Too thick and it makes me gag. Hence the idea of taking a big bite out of one? Just no.

viques · 25/04/2018 14:55

d)peeled, de seeded and chunked then cooked in a stir fry for a couple of.minutes

e) thinly sliced , dusted with freshly ground black pepper and placed in a dainty brown bread and butter sandwich, with the crusts off of course.

thefairyfellersmasterstroke · 25/04/2018 14:56

Sliced or batons depending on what I'm making, then eat whatever's left like a banana.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 25/04/2018 14:56

Cubed in Pimms or Gin and Tonic is the only way to have cucumber.Gin

Dahlietta · 25/04/2018 14:58

I do all of the above, but A is the best way.

MrsKoala · 25/04/2018 14:58

The thought of A is freaking me out. I don't think i could ever feel relaxed around someone who bit into a whole cucumber Grin

ALemonyPea · 25/04/2018 14:59

DS3 eats cucumber like a banana, loves the stuff. Was most funny when he bit into a courgette like that thinking it was a cucumber.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 25/04/2018 15:02

I have eaten them whole when we've grown them ourselves and are tiny and fresh, otherwise wouldn't fancy it. It would look...odd, as well. No getting away from that Grin

londonrach · 25/04/2018 15:06

Idll do tiny ones which are great for a. Otherwise its b
