AIBU about cucumber

TellMeItsNotTrue · 25/04/2018 13:32

I never thought that there was a right or wrong way to eat cucumber, but my friend says the way I have it is weird

I think the way she has it is odd but not really bothered because it's just cucumber, who cares? She won't let it go though so we are turning it over to MN to find out which is more common way of eating cucumber

A) Eaten whole, biting in to it like a banana
B) Sliced on salad/sandwich or in strips for snack/with lunch
C) Other way of eating it?

I have a picture of tiny DD1 doing A at a party!! there'd been a cucumber crocodile for cheese on sticks and once all were removed she was starting at the stickless crocodile for ages, her little nose at table level, and the hostess said she could have the whole thing she was so happy!! She used to call it cumber cumber. Aw. Little DD1 .... sigh

Karigan1 · 25/04/2018 14:03

Um I’ve done A. But also the others. Generally depends if it’s just me eating it or if I can be bothered to get s knife.

The80sweregreat · 25/04/2018 14:03

I love some cucumber in a sandwich or with a salad. however, Gillian woman who used to do 'you are what you eat' programme used to say to the ones she was mentoring ' eat the cucumber whole like a banana and raw peppers too, just the pips cut out.' i love all things salad and healthy but you would never think it to see me..

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/04/2018 14:04

My DDs have done this since they were little. Good way to snack and get a bit of extra veg. They also eat red and yellow peppers like apples though, so.....

anonymousbird · 25/04/2018 14:04

AND, to peel or not to peel? FIL is Shock that I don't. And I don't remove soft centre either. Double Shock

YetAnotherSpartacus · 25/04/2018 14:06

d) in tzatziki (or not at all).

starlightmeteorite · 25/04/2018 14:06

I only eat it cooked. It is really nice. Honest!

TowerRingInferno · 25/04/2018 14:07

Peeled and deseeded short batons

We often have it as a supplementary vegetable with dinner

Tentomidnight · 25/04/2018 14:07

Me: B
DC: A or B

Gemini69 · 25/04/2018 14:09

Cats fear Cucumber Grin

CatLadyToddlerMother · 25/04/2018 14:11

I must be odd as I do A) Grin

DD likes it sliced on chicken sandwiches . And in batons to dunk in coleslaw.

Laiste · 25/04/2018 14:11

I have never bitten a cucumber. Never occurred to me to! I think there wouldn’t be enough flavour to keep me noshing till the end of the average cumber they’re a bit bland. Slices or sticks for me. Dipped in something yummy xx

mirage937 · 25/04/2018 14:11

This reminded me off a time i was out with a friend we popped into Tesco before walking home and in the reduced section was a whole cucumber for 4p so she bought it and ate the whole thing like a banana on the way home and kept offering me at bite

FetchezLaVache · 25/04/2018 14:12

Me B, unless it's the mini snack ones, in which case A.

My late father often used to quote Samuel Johnson on the best way of eating them: "A cucumber should be well sliced, and dressed with pepper and vinegar, and then thrown out, as good for nothing."

TheViceOfReason · 25/04/2018 14:12

Cucumber is rank. The smell, the texture, the watery nothingness of it.

Laiste · 25/04/2018 14:14

Gemini those you tube vids of cats jumping at cucumbers are hilarious. Tried it with mine (rag doll) and she just stepped over it and walked off

idobelieveinfairies86 · 25/04/2018 14:14

my daughter does A and B depending on who gets to the fridge first lol.
But she does love her cucumber and has been known to eat a whole 1 in less than a day before 🤢.

Katedotness1963 · 25/04/2018 14:15

Assuming not the mini ones, slices or sticks.

butTIRFlies · 25/04/2018 14:17

c)

thickly sliced, added to Pimms

movinonup · 25/04/2018 14:19

My DC eat a half cucumber portion like a banana :)

Pythonesque · 25/04/2018 14:20

My mother always peeled it and sliced thinly. But when and where I grew up it was relatively expensive compared to other salad vegetables so it had to go as far as possible; it was also in the category of "foods you are allowed to not like". (which latter my sister was sometimes miffed about - cheap staples in season were like it or lump it, there were a couple of pricey foods others loved that I disliked and still do).

In my house it's sometimes batons and usually slices. Relatively recently I've switched to wash and slice without peeling which does simplify things!! Apparently my dad wouldn't eat it unless it was peeled, I'd not realised that was the only reason my mum peeled it!

crispsahoy · 25/04/2018 14:21

My ds1 has been known to eat a cucumber like a banana he was 3or4. My ds2 has also gave it a try he's 2.

I usually slice it when I was younger I did eat it in big chunks.

kateandme · 25/04/2018 14:22
