To think Katie Price should have finished more of the marathon?

She was running it for her mum who is dying of a lung disease.
She only walked for 6 miles and then bailed. People saw her going straight to a restaurant afterwards so it’s not as if she needed urgent medical help.

I get that she had a sore knee and it was a hot day but I think it’s bad for her fans who sponsored her and she could only manage 6 miles. She fully admits she did no training for it either

Congrats to anyone who ran it and had no issues. But my dh was a the finish line and he said an awful lot of people were in a terrible state because they kept going rather than bowing out. The attitude of 'just carry on' is sometimes not the most sensible one...

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:12

Well London marathon issued all the advice they could..... if people won't follow sound advice then what can you do??

If Katie's knee was such a huge problem I've no idea how she managed the training. That's the real test. Not the actual marathon

Come on! Take an educated guess Grin

100% true, but KP didn’t drop out from heat exhaustion- she quit because she couldn’t be bothered (and having no intention of finishing it in the first place).

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:26

19 exactly!!!

No training
No intention

qwertyuiopy · 25/04/2018 11:27

19lottie82 you are just making lies up to have a go lol! You have NO IDEA she couldn’t be bothered.

differentnameforthis · 25/04/2018 11:30

PatriarchyPersonified Those who are criticizing her for trying should be ashamed.

19lottie82 · 25/04/2018 11:30

you are just making lies up to have a go

Great argument there qwerty!

Better than accusing someone of being an “armchair critic” when you have no idea what you’re talking about! (I could possibly also call that “making up lies to have a go”, no?)

PatriarchyPersonified · 25/04/2018 11:31

Different

She didn't try. She turned up. There is a big difference.

19lottie82 · 25/04/2018 11:32

diffname that depends on your definition of “trying”, I suppose.

But to me, going to a night club the night before and not doing any training, doesn’t really constitute it!

qwertyuiopy · 25/04/2018 11:32

It seems there are two people on here taking turns to hurl abuse and back each other up.

You’ve really got it in for her haven’t you?

I wonder what she’s done to you...

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:33

As a runner, I have to ask myself why she turned up with her long hair down on the hottest day of the year

She had no intention of running it

Maybe all she set out to do was raise awareness. Did the other people in the lungs outfit same as Katie's,finish?

Frosty66612 · 25/04/2018 11:35

@qwerty I don’t think anyone has it in for anyone. The fact it’s Katie Price makes no difference - if it had been ANYONE else then I’m sure we’d still be saying that doing no training, going to a nightclub the night before and showing up to the marathon late, and then walking for 6 miles is a poor effort.

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:35

qwerty not me!! I quite like Katie and have supported her on MN threads in the past

Just don't 'get' why she did this. Though I can see why it was made easy for her

Didntcomeheretofuckspiders · 25/04/2018 11:38

It really wasn’t that hot. Brighton last year was hotter and that wasn’t all over the media. My partner does Ironman races and we usually travel abroad for them. Malaysia was 38 degrees with 90% humidity and the marathon is only one part of the race. The reason people die doing marathons tends to be an underlying medical condition. I’m sorry but the majority of (well) people could slowly walk 26.2 miles so it does seem like a bit of a cop out.

Roussette · 25/04/2018 11:38

I am laughing at 'those who criticise her for trying should be ashamed'. I could've done better than her and I'm more than 20 years older. She barely tried.

My DD could barely run 3 miles prior to starting her training in Sept for her much coveted place on the London Marathon. She never let up, she ran at night in a hot country she was working in, she ran in freezing weather, she trained for it because she knows how many people would be desperate to run in it. Oh... and she raised over £4K for the charity who gave her a place. That is trying. Not KP's pathetic run.

bonnyshide · 25/04/2018 11:39

Bit if a half hearted attempt really, which is a poor show when she was doing it for her dying mum, like she couldn't really be arsed to try.

19lottie82 · 25/04/2018 11:43

qwerty

Where have a hurled abuse at you? Confused

You’ve really got it in for her haven’t you?

Not at all, I really admire her as a business woman and how she publically stands up for her disabled son and challenges bullies.

But her “attempt” at the marathon was just a total joke and a bit of an insult to the competitors to who gave it their all to raise all the money they could for charity.

19lottie82 · 25/04/2018 11:44

bonny exactly.

^^ This with knobs on

qwertyuiopy · 25/04/2018 11:48

19lottie82 Your attempt was worse as you didn’t do it at all but are sat here hurling abuse at her for hours lol!

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:49

The pics of her at the beginning show the line cleaning truck right behind her sobif she had carried on walking then it would have been on open roads, on the path

RunMummyRun68 · 25/04/2018 11:51

It would have been dangerous to continue

To think Katie Price should have finished more of the marathon?
PatriarchyPersonified · 25/04/2018 11:51

Qwerty

Taking a place and then not bothering yourself to give it any effort whatsoever is far worse than not entering.
