To think Katie Price should have finished more of the marathon?

Purplerain101 · 23/04/2018 13:43

She was running it for her mum who is dying of a lung disease.
She only walked for 6 miles and then bailed. People saw her going straight to a restaurant afterwards so it’s not as if she needed urgent medical help.

I get that she had a sore knee and it was a hot day but I think it’s bad for her fans who sponsored her and she could only manage 6 miles. She fully admits she did no training for it either

She has raised lots of awareness about idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and here Virgin Money Giving page has now raised over £2000.

That’s sounds like a great result to me.

She does a lot of weird and questionable things but I think it’s brilliant how she doesn’t gloss over Harvey’s disabilities.

I’m not having a go at her for pulling out. I’m having a go at her for taking up a place that could have gone to someone much more worthwhile, who would have trained, put their heart and soul into raising money for a charity close to their heart, who would have not gone to a night club before, and not turned up in full make up and hair extensions. Ie someone who didn’t make a mockery of the whole thing.

19lottie82 · 23/04/2018 14:10

They do not take places that the general public applied for.

Do you have proof of this?

YippeeTipTap · 23/04/2018 14:11

Here is a NHS link to info on IDP. I hadn’t heard of it before.

bonbonours · 23/04/2018 14:11

I agree it is a bit crap she got publicity, albeit for charity but there are many more people who worked harder, really achieved something special, and raised more money for charity than her and got zero recognition for it. I do think you shouldn't enter the marathon unless you genuinely intend to attempt to finish it.

The last marathon she ran caused her a miscarriage didn't it? Who the fuck cares why she stopped, none of your business really. It won't save her mother.

What makes you think this?

I just googled it and she had a miscarriage that was occurring during the marathon, but there's nothing to suggest the marathon caused her to lose her baby Confused

Unless I'm mistaken and missing something and you do have proof of this, I think it's quite an awful thing to say.

It might make pregnant women who take part in a safe sport like running and lose a child feel extremely guilty, when they didn't do anything to cause it to happen. And put pregnant women off taking exercise.

It's horrible to suggest that her taking part in a marathon caused her to lose her child.

19lottie82 · 23/04/2018 14:13

You're quite an awful person to write this OP you know.

Don’t be so fucking ridiculous! Hmm

In her situation I’m pretty shocked she didn’t take the whole thing a bit more seriously. Most average Joes could raise 2k if they really tried. She’s a celeb in the public eye with lots of connections so she obviously didn’t put much effort into the fundraising did she?

Mrsmadevans · 23/04/2018 14:14

OP Yadbu . Given the circumstances , mum terminally ill , Mrathon temperature too high, injury to knee. Katie must have thought the time spent with her mum was more important and tbh l think she was right.

Mrsmadevans · 23/04/2018 14:15

Marathon

BennyTheBall · 23/04/2018 14:15

Of course, she should have finished.

You don't say, 'please sponsor me to run a small bit of the marathon'.

But she raised some money, so that's the main thing.

HoneyBadger32 · 23/04/2018 14:24

what impact does it have on you? Leave her be, if she was injured she was injured, i ran a leg in a relay team and it was hard enough going in the conditions. What is the point of your post really?

YippeeTipTap · 23/04/2018 14:24

I’m not having a go at her for pulling out. I’m having a go at her for taking up a place that could have gone to someone much more worthwhile, who would have trained, put their heart and soul into raising money for a charity close to their heart, who would have not gone to a night club before, and not turned up in full make up and hair extensions. Ie someone who didn’t make a mockery of the whole thing.

At the end of the day she will have achieved more awareness about IDP than someone else could have done. So it depends how you define worthy. In fact you could argue the fact that she didn’t complete the marathon is resulting in even more awareness.

Karigan1 · 23/04/2018 14:30

What I would like to know is if the OP has walked and ran 6 miles in the sun in one go.

It’s easy to arm chair judge but imho you don’t get to on stuff like this unless you’ve done it.

KriticalSoul · 23/04/2018 14:35

she completed the 2009 marathon while in the process of miscarrying and was bleeding while running.

planetsweet · 23/04/2018 14:35

No point trying to reason with the OP. I dont think this is an anti someone not finishing the marathon post, I think it’s an anti Katie Price post. OP just used it as an excuse for a pop thinking she’d spend a couple of glorious hours reading nasty comments about another woman 🙄

She was unwise not to train properly for it (if that is even true). But given that her mother is dying, perhaps she wasn't in the right mental space to commit to training. And no-one is stupid for realising they are pushing themselves beyond limits and deciding to stop. It's the way to avoid much more serious injury.

notabee · 23/04/2018 14:38

It was a unusually hot day for the marathon.
It this wasn't Katie Price would you judge her?
Imagine it was me (or any other poster) saying they felt bad for 'only' completing 6 miles but they'd hurt knee, they were overheated and that their mum was dying..
Fwiw I'm sure she made the right decision for her and her family.

Ellabella989 · 23/04/2018 14:39

I totally agree with you OP. She could have walked at a snails pace for another few miles. 6 miles is a joke

Ellabella989 · 23/04/2018 14:40

She didn’t take it seriously and she should be ashamed

YippeeTipTap · 23/04/2018 14:44

Ivymaud. She didn’t need to complete it. HERE is her Virgin Money Giving page

BTW I like the fact she used Virgin Money Giving. It’s not for profit unlike JustGiving and more of any donation made goes to the charity.

Littlechocola · 23/04/2018 14:47

I’m not a fan of hers at all but she did better than I could. I wouldn’t even try.
Unless you did it yesterday you have no right to criticise anyone.

DirtyBlonde · 23/04/2018 14:48

"Probably sensible given the conditions. Over 100 people hospitalised I think they said on the news earlier. Will she still receive sponsorship money for her charity or would she have needed to complete?"

Plus one dead Sad

RIP Matt (Campbell, Masterchef)

Mrsmadevans · 23/04/2018 14:49

If you read the messages from the ppl who competed with her and donated to her charity , then they are congratulating her getting so far with the Costume she wore, it was apparently very heavy and very big.

SlothMama · 23/04/2018 14:56

She had no intention of finishing the marathon, she's all about the publicity. She barely raised much at my last check, my partner raised more for the RNIB and although he had awful cramp and exhaustion he kept going.

She should have trained and if she knew her knee wouldn't hold out she could have given the space to someone else but went on the day to get her publicity.
