To think Katie Price should have finished more of the marathon?

She was running it for her mum who is dying of a lung disease.
She only walked for 6 miles and then bailed. People saw her going straight to a restaurant afterwards so it’s not as if she needed urgent medical help.

I get that she had a sore knee and it was a hot day but I think it’s bad for her fans who sponsored her and she could only manage 6 miles. She fully admits she did no training for it either

I'm not at all surprised that she bailed. When the going gets tough, it's easier to quit. Six miles is a pathetic amount (unless someone gets injured of course) and she has no excuse for not continuing to walk the route.

It's almost as if she's only interested in the publicity...

Matt trained, had a recent marathon time of 3 hours 3 minutes, and before donations started to flood in had raised about £2k.

Fit, trained, dead.

Of course she shouldn't have carried on.

And hell yes of course she should have entered. She wasn't in a elite/club/good-for-age place. Charity places go to all sorts, some of whom will have no chance of running some/most/any of the course.

I doubt you could put a price (sorry) on the awareness raising that she has done. The charity will have known what they were getting, and I guess they know what they need/want to further their cause.

RedOrange21 · 23/04/2018 18:04

I have entered the ballot and never got a place several times but it's not like Katie Price's place would have gone to a member of the public. She had the place because of who she is and because she was raising money for charity. It wouldn't have been available to anyone else so really doesn't affect anyone else. There are plenty of elite runners who have places and don't start or finish a marathon because of injuries/illnesses/weather conditions.

YippeeTipTap · 23/04/2018 18:20

I dont know when she agreed to do it but I presume it was a little while ago. I wouldn’t be suprised if she thought her knee problems might be better by the time the marathon came along and I bet she didn’t sign up thinking she wouldn’t train enough. Stuff happens and life can get in the way of the best of intentions. Her mother is dying and all some of you can do is sneer at her for only managing 6 miles. For all anyone knows it might of been an incredible achievement that she achieved that. I threw my back out last week after falling of a horse and I couldn’t manage a mile downhill. That doesn’t make me pathetic does it?

She has raised awareness for a nasty disease and that’s all that matters

Anyone’s and everyone’s effects to help charity should be applauded whatever they do and however much they raise.

I understand that Katie Price does a lot of dubious things and I can understand why she gets flack for them but to criticize someone’s efforts to raise awareness for a horrible disease that will kill her mother is really, really nasty.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 23/04/2018 18:52

In seven hours and 11 minutes

That’s not really ‘running’ a marathon though.

SluttyButty · 23/04/2018 18:57

God some of you on here are absolutely horrible. I'm not a huge KP fan but I do have respect for her despite her odd ways of getting attention.

Saying she's not really running a marathon the last time because of the extended time she took. My dh has run fast marathons but the last one he did he was poorly (but didn't know it), stressed due to huge amounts of family health stuff going on and it took him nearly 6 hrs. Did he not really run it either? Hmm

StickThatInYourPipe · 23/04/2018 18:57

The Ramseys didn't even bother to show up - why all the OP hate when she at least tried?

StickThatInYourPipe · 23/04/2018 18:58

KP hate**

lenaperkins · 23/04/2018 19:34

Just want to say idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a horrible disease.

Your lungs stiffen, and you just can't breathe. It's not caused by smoking, nobody knows what causes it, hence the term 'idiopathic' 'relating to or denoting any disease or condition which arises spontaneously or for which the cause is unknown.'

People initially are relieved when they get diagnosis. They think, 'Thank God it's not lung cancer.'

The tough truth is IPF has a worse prognosis. They live only a couple of years on average after diagnosis. Lung transplants can provided some hope- so 5 years more of life if you don't die from complications.

IPF kills about the same amount of people as ovarian cancer.

Katie Price's goal was to RAISE AWARENESS.

callmeadoctor · 23/04/2018 19:38

When did Mumsnet get quite so mean? Sad

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 23/04/2018 19:56

Katie Price's goal was to RAISE AWARENESS

Don’t you think that goal would have had more success if she actually completed the course?

RunMummyRun68 · 23/04/2018 20:03

Celebs get places offered

My DD's friend is a 'celeb' and both her and my dd were offered a place with cancer research uk.... they thought about it and then declined!!!

I ran it yesterday and knew by mile 3 I'd need to adjust both pace and expectations

lenaperkins · 23/04/2018 20:24

Would she have raised more awareness Pan? That's debatable isn't it? I guess people are taking about it. Maybe even more so.

I suppose my point is this, I do admire marathon runners: it's a great personal achievement. If you can do that AND raise money and raise awareness, even better.

Also I'm acutely aware a lot of the runners have faced loss and heartache.

But ... losing your mum too soon from a frankly horrible disease? While you're juggling lots of kids plus a profoundly disabled teenager? Let's give her a break.

RunMummyRun68 · 23/04/2018 20:27

lena. scary stats there!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/04/2018 20:28

At least she had a go. I think it's any excuse to slag KP off,to be honest.

Fairylea · 23/04/2018 20:32

I think this thread is in incredibly bad taste.

She wasn’t even a registered runner (I am quite heavily involved in sport and had quite a few contacts running) but she showed up and raised money for a very good cause in the midst of losing her mum to a truly terrible disease.

So what if she only did 6 miles?! That’s 6 miles more than many people can even dream of running!

People can be so bloody harsh.

upsideup · 23/04/2018 20:33

Katie Price's goal was to RAISE AWARENESS

Don’t you think that goal would have had more success if she actually completed the course?

I dont think so. There wouldnt be this thread if she had completed it for a start, she would get more press and attention for her charity (and herself) by quitting because there are more people who hate her and want to bitch about her when she messes up than there are people who love her and want to support and praise her. Her whole career is built on being disliked, she knows that so uses it to her advantage.
I wouldnt be that suprised if her plan all along with was to pull out as a publicity stunt, though I did see her yesterday and she seemed to genuinely be really struggling to walk at only 8k and a medic was with her.

RadioGaGoo · 23/04/2018 20:57

At least she did something 19Lottie82. I'm sure you are going to say you have done far more..... Hmm

RunMummyRun68 · 23/04/2018 21:14

fairylea what do you mean she wasn't even a registered runner? she did register....she had her number and was at expo with the rest of us to collect it....and register

qwertyuiopy · 23/04/2018 21:40

fairylea Hahahahaha @ "I am quite heavily involved in sport and had quite a few contacts running"

You're not as heavily involved as you think love!

Nomnommooninnom · 23/04/2018 21:50

Surprised she made it even 6 miles in that costume.

RunMummyRun68 · 23/04/2018 21:52

she could have ditched the costume and carried on.....

qwertyuiopy · 23/04/2018 22:02

"she could have ditched the costume and carried on....."

With an injury? God, you're an amateur obviously.
