Royal 'super fans' - AIBU to think they are bordering on loopy?

I am pretty ambivalent about the royal family. I appreciate that there is a strong argument for a republic but, generally to me they are neither here nor there, and it is not a life I would wish for myself despite the luxury they live in. A lot of my friends are more of the republic camp (probably an unnecessary bit of detail for my post but thought I'd chuck it in!)

However, what I find absolutely extraordinary are people who camp outside the Lindo wing, dressed in Union Jacks, waving flags etc. I can appreciate it more if they were, say, rock stars but the royal family, its bloody bonkers! Who are these people, and what on earth is it that makes them want to camp outside hospitals and the like...?!

Each to their own and all that malarkey but I cannot understand it at all! (And also feel a bit sorry for Kate having that kind of carry on outside when she's inside having a baby!)

I'm out of here. I can't read comments about the suffering in Syria posted so blaise and uncaring and stay within talk guidelines in replies.

C8H10N4O2 · 23/04/2018 13:45

Yeah I do find all the news about Syria and all the deaths so boring.

I'm sure they find it pretty tedious too.

I get it, you are an obsessive monarchist, that is your right. Is it necessary to be quite so vile about people dying in their thousands to make your point?

LimonViola · 23/04/2018 13:47

YABU to think they're bordering on loopy.

They crossed that border many miles ago!

paxillin · 23/04/2018 13:47

Yeah I do find all the news about Syria and all the deaths so boring

That is a truly disgusting comment.

@C8H10N4O2 clearly it is, yes! Im actually so gobsmacked by the comparisons that Im struggling to put it into words! Wow!
Makes people camping outside a hospital dressed in a Union Jack to glimpse a strangers baby look pretty standard really

eddiemairswife · 23/04/2018 13:49

The very thought of President Blair makes me glad we are a monarchy.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/04/2018 13:49

I never mentioned anything about people’s mental health I said I felt embarrassed for them

But you have embarrassed yourself more with you posts that show how little empathy you have with human suffering

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2018 13:52

The very thought of President Blair makes me glad we are a monarchy.

So the idea of a democratically elected head of state that turned out to be a bastard makes you wince more than a head of state that got there because they were lucky to come out of the right vagina even if they have no clue about anything?

bonnyshide · 23/04/2018 13:52

@mandieleeinatree

Truly shocked at your vile comment I can't believe I just read that.

Brokenbiscuit · 23/04/2018 13:52

Yeah I do find all the news about Syria and all the deaths so boring.

Wow! I could understand if you said you found the news about Syria too upsetting to watch, but boring? What a sad, callous individual you must be.

Scaramoose · 23/04/2018 13:52

@EnthusiasmIsDistrubed I think it was aimed at me for using the word 'loopy.' Its 'nasty' apparently and makes me look a 'twat.' Whereas the subsequent comments made about the Middle East and Syria were presumably perfectly reasonable in every way you can think of

OP posts:
BennyTheBall · 23/04/2018 13:53

mandielee, are you in a union jack suit, sitting outside the hospital?

CadyHeron · 23/04/2018 13:53

Meh, they're not harming anyone. It makes them happy. So what?
Even if I do privately think it's a little bit bonkers to camp out for two weeks for a glimpse of a baby of people you don't even know! Grin
Would be boring if we were all the same.
Do they really stay out there for weeks? Where do they go to the loo?! Don't their clothes get stinky?! So many questions lol

MushroomGravy · 23/04/2018 13:53

If the news should report on 'the news' then why are some you getting all wanky and pissy about the Royal news?

When did I say anything wanky or pissy about them reporting on the royal family? Confused [head tilt] Of course they will report on it, it is news. I quite enjoy a royal baby story.

I'm just shocked anyone would be so openly ignorant about world news.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2018 13:54

Had I been a few years younger and a bit more savvy I too would have turned up at St Andrews and woo-ed the prince. Lucky Kate. Very successful and savvy woman.

TheMoonAndHare · 23/04/2018 13:55

Good grief, bit much, no?

C8H10N4O2 · 23/04/2018 13:55

Im actually so gobsmacked by the comparisons that Im struggling to put it into words!

I've reported the comments. If that kind of hatred is now within talk guidelines then this is no longer a place for me. Hopefully HQ will pick up and address

MushroomGravy · 23/04/2018 13:56

I just think if people watched that boring news maybe those things that our governments are all involved in would happen less...meaning the news could focus on royal weddings and pie eating contests.
Win win

MushroomGravy · 23/04/2018 13:57

I honestly think we need to stop reporting and let things stand.

People always act surprised when events like Brexit occur and it's because we censor idiots like her^

Yes people really think like that.

Bowlofbabelfish · 23/04/2018 14:04

Yes it is a bit odd, and it’s not something I’d be doing, but they’re always very British about it somehow. Polite and eccentric rather than outright lunacy.

It’s harmless, and as long as they’re not disturbing or disrupting the hospital in any way I say leave them to it. I’m sure they’re having a lovely time and raising a glass to the latest arrival.
And really, anyone who is churlish about the safe arrival of a baby should have a Pimms and loosen up.

It has no bearing on any other bit of awful world news. One can feel desperately sad at some of the awful things happening around the globe and still think ‘oh well that’s nice’ at the arrival of a baby. We don’t have to tick off a list of ‘things to fix in order.’ Before we can be happy for someone.

FlissMumsnet · 23/04/2018 14:06

Hi Everyone,

just nipping in with a quick reminder to everyone that posts reported which break our TGs will be deleted.

We'd advise anyone to step away if they're finding posting within guidelines tough
