Royal 'super fans' - AIBU to think they are bordering on loopy?

I am pretty ambivalent about the royal family. I appreciate that there is a strong argument for a republic but, generally to me they are neither here nor there, and it is not a life I would wish for myself despite the luxury they live in. A lot of my friends are more of the republic camp (probably an unnecessary bit of detail for my post but thought I'd chuck it in!)

However, what I find absolutely extraordinary are people who camp outside the Lindo wing, dressed in Union Jacks, waving flags etc. I can appreciate it more if they were, say, rock stars but the royal family, its bloody bonkers! Who are these people, and what on earth is it that makes them want to camp outside hospitals and the like...?!

Each to their own and all that malarkey but I cannot understand it at all! (And also feel a bit sorry for Kate having that kind of carry on outside when she's inside having a baby!)

OP posts:

It's fucking insane. But that said I am a republican.

Can I ask anyone who's ever given birth did you go to the hospital all calm and measured and dressed well? I'm a bit skeptical of her being in labour if she's only off to the hospital to have a c-section? How does it work? If you're in labour surely you just get going in your leggings and tunic?

BennyTheBall · 23/04/2018 12:43

OP, 'bordering on loopy' is a generous understatement.

I agree with others, it's creepy.

TSSDNCOP · 23/04/2018 12:46

Vlad yes. Plus hairdryer/straighteners in bag.

WorraLiberty · 23/04/2018 12:49

Is she having a C-section?

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2018 12:52

No-one knows Worra. That's what I'm trying to get my head around. When my sister was in labour we quite literally grabbed some bits and set off to the ward with immediate effect. She was wearing leggings, ugg boots and swearshirt. Perhaps as Kate is part of the royalty her equivalent of leggings and uggs and sweatshirt is a fancy tea-dress with a mac jacket.

Fintress · 23/04/2018 12:53

It's definitely bonkers. I just don't get that mindset. However I have no interest in Royalty.

EssentialHummus · 23/04/2018 12:54

I went in in a Gap sundress and DH's amniotic fluid-soaked bathrobe. Kate's missing a trick.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2018 12:55

I don't recall my sister smiling with all the calmness and grace in the world when en route to give birth. She looked like she might want to set of on a murder spree and start by killing all those around her!!! She looked like a woman possessed! Kate on the other hand.... looks like she's off to buy naice bread from Waitrose.

I would like to see the Queen carry on 'till the end now, after that the RF should be abolished. As for camping outside the Lindo wing, it's potty. That said, I'm more annoyed that all we're going to hear on the news for the next month is the baby, then the wedding. There are more important things going on than the over privileged RF.

BennyTheBall · 23/04/2018 13:00

I too would love the Royal Family do be done with, once the queen dies.

spontaneousgiventime · 23/04/2018 13:00

I meant the monarchy should be abolished not the RF Blush That sounds really bad - oops.

PickwickThePlockingDodo · 23/04/2018 13:01

It is very peculiar. Camping outside for over 3 weeks - don't they have jobs? Confused

BennyTheBall · 23/04/2018 13:03

I meant the monarchy should be abolished not the RF - yes, me too. I don't want them exterminated or anything Grin

KeneftYakimoski · 23/04/2018 13:04

Given Brexit and Trump, are you sure you're going to like the elected head of state any more?

mandieleeinatree · 23/04/2018 13:05

I would much rather see news about the Royals, (their galas, their weddings, their engagements, their births etc etc etc,) every day, than news about Syria and the middle east, and Africa, and all the bullshit propaganda we get every day on the news.

I am so fucking bored of hearing about, and SEEING images of the middle east/Syria/Africa, and being told every single day about what is going on there. Guess what? I don't fucking care.. What the hell has THAT got to do with me? Confused Only the people in those areas can sort these issues. It's not for us to sort. And I am sick of seeing it on my telly EVERY. DAY. Hmm

MinetteForget · 23/04/2018 13:05

It's a boy!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 23/04/2018 13:05

I feel embarrassed for them

Acting like peasants happy to lick their masters shoes

spontaneousgiventime · 23/04/2018 13:07

Yes I would. I would much prefer to vote for our head of state than have one imposed by virtue of birth.

If we became a republic we would have a president. Putin,Trump or little rocket man anyone?
Be very careful what you wish for.
I’m not a royalist but maybe it’s the least worst option.

KeneftYakimoski · 23/04/2018 13:21

Putin,Trump or little rocket man anyone?

Well, to be fair, only one of those were elected in anything remotely approximating a free and fair election, and the "little rocket man" is essentially a hereditary monarch, so I'm not sure those are terribly good arguments.

Fintress · 23/04/2018 13:21

If I had just given birth and was faced by dozens of paps I'd be looking for the back door, not have my photo plastered all over like the couple leaving with their baby today.

VladmirsPoutine · 23/04/2018 13:23

I'd rather have a rocket man as head of state than someone there coz they were born lucky with blue blood. The Royals are leeches and parasites.

paxillin · 23/04/2018 13:23

Putin,Trump or little rocket man anyone?

A monarch could be equally shitty and they would a) be there until they die and b) people didn't pick them.

Nobody is suggesting we become a military dictatorship to get Kim or have dodgy elections to get Putin.

Yes, Trump may have had only half the vote, but the Queen had 0%.
