People walking their dogs early in the morning

All winter in the dark and cold I've been walking my dogs in the woods close by. All winter I met ONE person (plus some creepy, silent, hooded figure - I didn't go down that path again)

Now it's light in the mornings I meet so many people. I feel they didn't put the hard slog in over the winter so they shouldn't be allowed to spoil my solitude and enjoyment of these beautiful mornings...

Of course I know it is unreasonable to feel this way really Blush

Omg you met death! He probably started a thread after seeing you saying "AIBU to expect nuts dog owners to stay indoors when it's dark, freezing and snowing? They're spoiling my solidute".

😂 But YANBU OP, I'm a dog owner but only go out while it's light because I'm a scaredy

WhatATimeToBeAlive · 23/04/2018 10:43

Ha ha! Lost my beloved dog 2 years ago, but we used to say exactly the same thing - where have these people been all winter?! We were out with her at 6.30am come rain, snow, sun and didn't see a soul. Dry, light mornings and it was like rush hour!

Ebeneser · 23/04/2018 10:44

*BumpowderSneezeonAndSnot Try having a dog reactive dog. This time or year is a bloody nightmare to find a time to walk them where all my previously safe and isolated walks are now full of shit heads with their off lead dogs with no recall. I can't go out at lunchtime for obvious reasons and my previously lonely am and pm walks are now chock full.

Hate it. My poor dog*

I feel you. My dog is a rescue dog and can be quite reactive, she was getting better but after being attacked three times (when she was on the lead as well!) she has regressed a bit. I tried the yellow ribbon (www.yellowdoguk.co.uk/), but the flip flop wearing idiots whose dogs have no recall have no idea what it means.

Thankfully she no longer reacts to the dogs we see nearly everyday, but if a dog she isn't familiar with starts barking at her, or goes near her she kicks off herself. Don't blame her given the amount of times she has been attacked.

You remind me of a meme that was doing the rounds in January:

Gym goers - stop complaining about newbies filling the gym in January.

We didn't complain when you filled up our pubs in december!

ThisIsTheFirstStep · 23/04/2018 10:48

caribou we live in a flat (no garden) so ours is out four times a day, sometimes more if he starts to get fractious.

People always comment on how often our dog is out. They all get their dogs peeing and pooping on pee pads (typical where we live). Fucking gopping if you ask me, who wants to live with dog pee inside the house daily.

Thebluedog · 23/04/2018 10:49

Mu dh says the same thing as he’s on morning dog walking duties

Ohmydayslove · 23/04/2018 10:57

Oh positively

Agree with you. Some parents are crazy around dogs and just don’t teach their children sensible behaviour around them. Very lucky our dog adores kids but for ghise who don’t it can be a nightmare

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 23/04/2018 10:59

I feel like that about the swimming pool. Who are all these johnny come latelies? I have been getting up in the cold and dark all through winter to swim and now here they are as soon as it's light hogging all the lanes.

Fortheloveofscience · 23/04/2018 11:03

De-railing slightly, but what do you 6am dog walkers do about feeding breakfast? I’d love to go out at that time, but there isn’t enough time after we get back and before I go to work for him to rest before eating?

Ohmydayslove · 23/04/2018 11:04

I can imagine my princesses face at being ‘hosed down with cold water’ Grin she would dial
Dogs trust.

Her bath occurs every Sunday and towels are warmed. She’s has special doggie bubble bath and is hand dried, she hates the hairdryer, on a fleecy rug in front of the fire. Dh cooks her chicken breast with gravy and hand feeds her while she’s wrapped up called her ‘daddies special girl’ Grin

Our next is getting pretty empty you see Wink

Squirrel26 · 23/04/2018 11:11

Oh dear, I am ‘one of those people’ Grin I hate getting up in the dark, so I get up later, walk the dog later and am late for work In the summer we’re usually up by 6.

I just give mine his breakfast when we get home, Fortheloveofscience, but he’s quite flexible and doesn’t mind, eg being up at 6 and not fed till 11 if we’re out for a long time at the weekend.

SuitedandBooted · 23/04/2018 11:13

I always wonder where dog owners go in the wet weather too - I live out in the country, and rarely see anyone on wet days. As soon as the sun pops out, they are everywhere. I walk my dog for over an hour every morning, and again in the evening, come rain, shine or blizzards.

As my Dad use to say, - "There's no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing!" Grin

I feed mine as soon as we get home, same with evening meal (I give her 1/2 in the morning and 1/2 in the evening). At lunchtimes we go for a quick walk round the block and she gets a little treat when we get in. For some reason she gets really excited for her lunchtime treat.

LOL, my dog is quite happy to go out in all weathers, she loves the snow. However when we had hurricane Ophelia, we got about a mile into out walk and she decided enough was enough and literally made us run back home. She also refused to go in the garden for an evening wee. She literally legged it back in the house as soon as I tried to get her out the door.

Gym goers - stop complaining about newbies filling the gym in January.

I am so guilty of this Blush. Can't get parked, can't use my treadmill (yes it's MINE!), even my own private locker is in use! Bugger off the lot of you!

They've all disappeared by March though Grin

Tringley · 23/04/2018 12:07

Sounds like being a home-educator during school holidays.

HumptyD93 · 23/04/2018 12:09

I agree....Bloody fairweather walkers!!!!!

Come rain snow and gales we walk 1 of 2 ways in a morning. Saw just 1 person over winter who is also walking her dog and hers and mine play together for a few mins before we go separate ways.

But the first fair day this year there were 5+ on one of the walks. 1 had their 5 dogs on leads launching across the path to get to my dog. And the amount of poo left on paths is ridiculous.

InfiniteSheldon · 23/04/2018 12:53

Loving the fact that I'm being judged on the fact that my dogs don't like going out in inclement weather my well behaved very very well exercised and much adored pooches really don't suffer for not going out on rainy cold wet mornings Grin. To be fair they are chihuahuas and weigh, 4 kg and 1.9kg: pic attached for proof of the place they hold in our hearts (and bed) @PositivelyPerf

Woshambo · 23/04/2018 12:58

Urgh same. I have 3 large dogs. One is nervous around other dogs, one is dog aggressive (if they don't know them, currently working on it) and the 3rd is over friendly. So I choose where I exercise my dogs and am very vigilant. We drive over 30 mins to a clear area no one knows about (yet!) To let them off lead because previous places have all been discovered by other dog walkers.

I used to think loads of ppl just bought dogs in the summer lol!

Notthecarwashagain · 23/04/2018 13:07

Haha! I totally agree! YANBU.
My dog loves a patch of grass near our house and visits it for a sniff and a wee every day in rain, snow, wind.

Now the sun is out a man keeps practising his golf on it and because Dog is nervous we can't go on.
It's ours, we appreciated it when no-one else did! Grin

PositivelyPERF · 23/04/2018 13:10

Don’t be so silly,InfiniteSheldon, they’re not in your bed! Don’t you realise how privileged you are when they let you into THEIR bed at night?

PositivelyPERF · 23/04/2018 13:11

Now the sun is out a man keeps practising his golf on it and because Dog is nervous we can't go on Buy a few fake 💩 and plant them in the grass. 😁

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 23/04/2018 13:13

@bumpowder - I feel your pain - DDog is reactive towards motorbikes, and while winter just has takeaway delivery and muggers mopeds, summer seems to be bringing people who regard motorbikes as being a pleasant form of transport and then look at me like I have the hound of the baskervilles on a lead.

I'd also like to add people who go to the park to eat. Particularly those who BBQ. They take raw dog bait, heat it up so dogs can smell it from miles away, and when dogs go to investigate there's a potential nasty surprise in the form of a burnt nose / paw / mouth. And they're surprised or upset when hot smelly dog bait attracts dogs. When they leave, there's litter (dangerous chicken bones if you're unlucky) and invariably a burnt black patch of grass which takes weeks to grow back.

It's rapidly making my local park unusable off lead. As far as I'm concerned, they can BBQ there in the summer if they can provide proof they've been using the park all winter in the snow, as I have been.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 23/04/2018 13:17

So good to read this thread and find my people. I have two idiot rescues who are a nightmare to walk together if we come across other dogs. I end up walking them separately. I walk them all year whatever the weather though.

Notthecarwashagain · 23/04/2018 13:36

Ooh Positively! That is so tempting! DS has a disgusting joke poo somewhere in the house. Might see if I can find it Grin
