To ask what's an adult problem that nobody prepared you for?

For me it's keeping the bathroom clean. I don't think I ever saw my mother clean hers but it was always immaculate and rosey smelling. I can't seem to keep on top of the mould monster in mine!

Being responsible for your own bedtime. I always stay up late and then regret it the next day.

both my parents getting cancer at the same time and me being the only child who can be arsed to help them. I do all appointments, all treatments, all medications, everything. So basically just how unfair it all is.

What to do when your child does gigantic turds in your toilet that don’t flush. I’ve been known to have to skewer them out and put it the bin.
Also, changing the headlight bulbs in the car.

1. Parenting (which of course is also wonderful).
2. Working a million hours for not a million pounds and not getting enough time to spend with amazing children and husband.

Cleaning skirting boards and window sills. I got that you had to hoover the floor, clean worktops etc but all the wiping of other stuff you’re supposed to do came as a surprise.

How constant it all is, there’s no let up

Doing very well at school and university then no-one giving you a job because you don't have any experience. (I understand why this happens, it's more than all through childhood you're told you need to do well at school to get a good job).

Buying a car. In the end the problem was circumvented because a family member gave me one. I've still got no idea how I'm supposed to arrange buying, insuring, and getting a car. What order am I meant to do things in? What if something falls through?

Working 9-5.

School was meh, uni was amazing, but working is so fucking shit and boring! It makes me want to not have kids - why give birth to new lives only to consign them to a lifetime of 9-5 wage slavery?

And I do an "interesting" job related to my degree and quite decently paid, so I can only imagine how shit it must be doing unskilled work on min wage.

Being a radiator...i still don't know how or why you even need to do it At 27 I should know this.

Keeping a house clean. Not any of the individual jobs, I can do all of them but the process of staying on top of it all, knowing what needs cleaning this weekend etc.

Two things - I always thought that as an adult I would be able to get any breed of dog I wanted and that if I wanted ten dogs that would be fine. Sadly I have found that life doesn't work like that.

On a more serious note - I was totally unprepared, as the only child, for the changes that becoming my mum's carer would bring. When my dad went into hospital I suddenly became responsible for everything for my mum (albeit with support from family/extended family) even though I already did all their cooking and shopping. It was as big a shock to the system as becoming a mum for the first time.

Arranging a parent's funeral. And discovering how expensive it is. It really stung knowing that I was 'selfishly' panicking about how much everything was costing instead of just being heartbroken.

That loving someone doesn't mean they'll love you back, and that happy-ever-after is only true in fiction.

Didn't even notice that typo. Bleeding a radiator makes more sense. Though being a radiator sounds better than being am adult.

That iron tablets after a c section makes you have black poo. I thought I was dying. Everybody seems to know this but me.
