To think two oranges after dinner is too much sugar

They are pretty large navel oranges, two of them (whole not juiced) is probably half your daily sugar allowance so probably not a good idea to eat two after a evening dinner?

Wasting the same foods is not healthy! Kids needs variety not McDonald and pizza every week. And people wonder why were the fattest nation in Europe! We just feed our kids the same old crap.

2 oranges frequently is not good for a child. Why not try a pear or a few plums maybe even a smoothie. Melons, passionfruit. It’s about showing your child the variety of fruit that’s available not just shoving oranges down them every day and claiming they’ve eaten their 6 a day

I'm agog

I thought we were all being hilariously sarcastic as usual but maybe not

Only on Mn do people harp on about fruit being full of sugar! Stop it OP.

ilovesooty · 19/04/2018 03:17

The OP is probably gearing up to something even more controversial tomorrow.

I couldn't get too worked up over a couple of oranges.

StylishMummy · 19/04/2018 03:25

Sugar is not the enemy.

Fat is not the enemy.

Balance, activity levels and portion control are important. My grandparents generation used to bake something nearly everyday & cook the standard, meat, veg & potatoes, none were overweight and all were healthy and fit well into 70/80s.

This panic over sugar/fat/Mercury/sodium etc etc etc is just ridiculous and another stick to beat ourselves with.

EVERYTHING IN MODERATION.

PS- it's oranges, not crack.

AngryAttackKittens · 19/04/2018 03:58

My God, OP, for a minute there your daughter was in grave danger of making it to the age of 10 without an eating disorder! Good of you to step in and fix that for her.

hellokittymania · 19/04/2018 04:51

Sleepy bunnies, ha ha ha ha, that made me laugh. But the Terry's chocolate oranges are so nasty now anyway,.

DannyLaRuesBestFrock · 19/04/2018 05:07

Every food that entered my child mouth I made sure i knew the risks off. My kids ended up growing up with no health problem and are all fit and tall

Bravo. I wished I'd have known. I gave my child 2 apples without knowing the risks, and she became fat and shrunk 😞

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 19/04/2018 05:14

Is this on the back of the banana breakfast smoothie thread, honestly I've never seen any one demonise fruit before

TheHulksPurplePants · 19/04/2018 05:17

If worrying about sugar in fruit is what it takes to be thin, I'd rather be fat.

HoppingPavlova · 19/04/2018 05:34

Actually I would bet they are mentally fucked in regards to food issues. Lucky they are tall though.

It’s proven that too many strawberries can lead kids to cramping, gas and may even lead to bowel cancer.

Yes, everyone that diagnoses and treats bowel cancer knows it was caused by strawberries. NOT.

GnomeDePlume · 19/04/2018 05:45

If you eat seasonally then you do end up eating a lot of what ever is in season at the time.

Judging by my allotment (and my fellow allotmenteers') there isnt a lot around at the moment. We are in the 'hungry season' and in days gone by would be living off whatever we had preserved last year. Not a lot of variety.

mathanxiety · 19/04/2018 05:51

Yikes, two bonkers threads in one day, and I didn't even see the bananas one.

When I was a gal, my dear mater used to peel bananas for us kids and give us a bowl of sugar to dip them in.

The only thing eating too many strawberries ever gave me was hives.

PinotMwah · 19/04/2018 05:59

I'm guessing a salted caramel delight would be a dealbreaker, OP?

What do you do to relax?

joystir59 · 19/04/2018 06:08

My favourite dessert is to melt a bar of chocolate, golden syrup and a lump of butter...mix in cornflakes. Eat with a spoon
Inspired!

joystir59 · 19/04/2018 06:14

Children or adults don't need an endless variety of food from all over the world. Apples oranges bananas and foraged berries are enough. Potatoes carrots beans peas onions tomatoes lettuce raffish celery. Eggs, foraged nuts, fish meat cheese. Cakes and biscuits. Sweets and chocolate. All of this food is good. In balance.

joystir59 · 19/04/2018 06:16

Raffish is raddish auto corrected btw, not some unusual kind of fish.

joystir59 · 19/04/2018 06:22

I have put lemon juice on most of my food for most of my adult life. I'm surprised I'm still standing.

BodgingThisMumThing · 19/04/2018 06:23

OP look into refined sugar, fructose, and why we need the glucose in those sugars. Your body runs off of carbohydrates (the sugar is in those). If you cut out ALL sugar, even the lovely fructose your body will be malnourished. 2 bananas isn’t too much for you, 2 oranges isn’t too much for you.

MorningsEleven · 19/04/2018 06:27

Someone's going to ask if the oranges could possibly be autistic, I assume. This is MN after all

Oranges are on the spectrum
Melons are binge eaters
Bananas are controlling
Peaches are narcissists
Srawberries are batshit crazy
Grapes are perverts

If you eat any of these dangerous fruits you will take on their traits - you are what you eat after all.

The only safe fruit is a blueberry (just the one) sprinkled over oats (just the two) that have been soaked water from a mountain spring.

joystir59 · 19/04/2018 06:27

This thread comes from a control freak. There are a lot of food-control freaks out there who see having an ounce of fat on their bones as evil. Well I am overweight. Guess what? I may be a good person as well. It is conceivably possible. I may also live longer than someone who is wasting time worrying about eating more than one orange a day.

FrozenMargarita17 · 19/04/2018 06:39

@MorningsEleven apples are most definitely abusive too. What a shame
