To think two oranges after dinner is too much sugar

They are pretty large navel oranges, two of them (whole not juiced) is probably half your daily sugar allowance so probably not a good idea to eat two after a evening dinner?

TheJoyOfSox · 18/04/2018 23:31

A large tub of Haribo would be much better.

DD43 · 18/04/2018 23:32

YANBU @jnfrrss

I knew a woman once, who made her FIVE year old son eat SEVEN GRAPES

What a cunt. Disgusting woman. Disgusting mother. Disgusting human.

#banthefruit Hmm

Eating whole fruit is much better than drinking fruit juice, because the fibre in fruit, which is largely removed when juiced, slows down the absorption of the sugars, as you take time to digest it, instead of the quick hit of concentrated sugar you get from drinking juice.

I think most parents would be pleased if their dc were keen on fruit!

DD43 · 18/04/2018 23:33

I'm joking obvs.... ^ Grin

hedgebackwards · 18/04/2018 23:33

2 large oranges might cause a bit of indigestion, but there's not much else to worry about.

Northernparent68 · 18/04/2018 23:34

Op, do you think you might have food issues ?

WorraLiberty · 18/04/2018 23:34

I hope she cut them in half DD43 Shock Grin

MorningsEleven · 18/04/2018 23:34

@C8H10N4O2

Oh my God! How can you eat that much? There are 28 teaspoons of sugar in a lettuce and grapes are just carbs. Tomatoes are actually lard, salt and red food colouring.

You need help to stop bingeing and learn to live on vinegar.

Ansumpasty · 18/04/2018 23:34

Some people 😂

Mississippilessly · 18/04/2018 23:37

I question your parenting 2bh - why did you child have open access to naval oranges? Do you usually allow her to binge like this?

MyKingdomForBrie · 18/04/2018 23:37

I really hope you’re not handing down this fucked up attitude to food to your dc. Fruit bowl is access all hours in my house (ok not after bedtime!) but really, as long as tooth brushing is regular and through i really cannot see this as an issue.

Re. the ‘five a day’ thing - a) it should be more like ten anyway and b) the division is to ensure enough veg not to limit fruit.

UsedtobeFeckless · 18/04/2018 23:39

@MorningsEleven Vinegar! We only have that for a special treat - followed by a day or two of fasting, obviously ...

LemonysSnicket · 18/04/2018 23:42

It is fructose ... not sucrose. Calm down.

You're kidding! At one point, she made him put 2 in his mouth at once.

I thought everyone knew children should only ever ingest breast milk or water. For ever. Anything else is disgusting and abuse. Op you sound like my friend who talks constantly about how revolting food is and how fruit is basically the equivalent of crack and should never be given to children. She's got issues.

SuckingEggs · 18/04/2018 23:45

Lawd.

LagunaBubbles · 18/04/2018 23:46

Good god do people really spend their lives worrying about nonsense like this?

Anxiouschild · 18/04/2018 23:46

You would have had a fit at me in my teens then OP. I went through an orange craving phase (they had to be fridge cold). It lasted weeks. I would happily eat my way through a half dozen in one sitting. I'm still here 20yrs later and with fairly ok teeth. The craving returned during both of my pregnancies too.

My 22mo is on a satsuma binge at the moment. I limit it to two a day (three if I need some 'big guns' bribery) and have had to hide them as she'll help herself from the fruit bowl. I think she would eat the entire net-full given the chance. I figure there is far worse she could be stealing eating.

PlatypusPie · 18/04/2018 23:46

I’m impressed - I am known as The Fruit Bat in my family, love oranges, get very twitchy if I can’t have my morning one plus various satsuma sized ones as snacks during the day, often have a large orange as pudding after supper but I couldn’t get through two of them.

Have done so all my life and have great teeth and no health issues.

Bettiedraper · 18/04/2018 23:54

If you have a problem with sugar (cravings, have trouble controlling your intake, are overweight) you should only have one serving of fruit at a sitting and max two pieces per day.

pallisers · 18/04/2018 23:56

It is only on MN that I have ever heard fruit referred to as sugar , the equivalent of haribo. Some seriously disordered eaters out there in MN land.

DaisyGiveMeYourAnswerDoo · 18/04/2018 23:56

My nearly 3yo's diet today:

Scrambled egg, fried egg, boiled egg, sausage and beans with an orange (whole, not juiced) (she's going through an egg obsession phase).

Vanilla ice cream, strawberry ice cream, sprinkles

Quavers, a bite of a cheese and cucumber sandwich

Chips, fish fingers, more beans, bit of pasta

More ice cream, jelly, banana

Kinder egg, popcorn, slush puppy

Tbf, she's on holiday (butlins) and has a much healthier diet at home. Heathy weight etc. But honestly, if they're healthy and happy, who cares? You're damaging your kid more with these food issues, than any issues they're getting from 2 oranges.
