To think two oranges after dinner is too much sugar

They are pretty large navel oranges, two of them (whole not juiced) is probably half your daily sugar allowance so probably not a good idea to eat two after a evening dinner?

For a 6 year old. Most people agreed that two bananas on the other thread was too much sugar for an adult to consumeHmm

I had an egg after my dinner. A lovely big chocolate one!

PattiStanger · 18/04/2018 23:09

Are you short on things to worry about?

Most people were bonkers as fuck then.

Fruit is not the enemy. Eat fruit. Fruit sugars are not a problem.

RunMummyRun68 · 18/04/2018 23:12

What was for dinner?

I presume they were just messing with whoever said that as well!

Is this the same as the "4 Jaffa cakes = binge eating = seek help = fat bastard" thread?

Agree with a PP. 2 x Terry's seems fair as a dessert

Oh and OP, have a Biscuit. Just the one, don't want you having too much sugar.

Bambamber · 18/04/2018 23:19

I think people are currently encouraged to only have 2 portions of your 5 a day as fruit and the other 3 are supposed to be vegetables due to the sugar content in fruit. (Don't shoot me down, I didn't come up with it!) But on the grand scheme of things, 2 oranges after dinner isn't going to do any harm.

Moxiebelle · 18/04/2018 23:19

I'm doing a low sugar diet at the moment and it does point out that eating whole fruit with its natural fibre is the only safe way to eat fructose. So two oranges is probably fine but it would be better to stick to that and not have a lot of other sugar.

SweetMoon · 18/04/2018 23:22

I don't think he'll suffer any ill effects op. If he's enjoying those oranges let him crack on.

Stinkbomb · 18/04/2018 23:22

Oh fgs, utterly ridiculous. Vit c, fibre etc - it's not refined sugar.
What on earth is happening when you have to ration fruit because of sugar intake!

Crispbutty · 18/04/2018 23:22

So long as he’s brushed his teeth after then I can’t see too much of a problem.

MorningsEleven · 18/04/2018 23:24

Are they Terry’s?

No, they're mine!

GabsAlot · 18/04/2018 23:24

poundland have got them

oh im off there

TrudeauGirl · 18/04/2018 23:25

No fruit is good for pudding. Very good for a child as it will encourage them to eat more fruit in the future. Oranges are good for vitamin c!

mammmamia · 18/04/2018 23:27

Can you link to the banana thread please?

vanillasky1001 · 18/04/2018 23:27

Glad you're not my mum. And my mum was bonkers.

Fruitcorner123 · 18/04/2018 23:28

What was the othwr thread? Why do you need us to tell you? If it's half the RDA of sugar then surely it's obvious that it should be fine if your child has eaten a balanced healthy diet for today. If he's also eaten 5 bars of chocolate and 2 tubs of ice cream then it's not the oranges you need to worry about.

TryingToGetFired · 18/04/2018 23:29

Better to have two different pieces of fruit. Better for teeth to have the sugar with a meal - but of that's your 6 year olds biggest food issue then in the kindest possible way - you need to chill a bit.

alibongo5 · 18/04/2018 23:29

Oh god did I ever worry about this sort of thing? Possibly, but I really don't think so! And if I did, I quickly found out that it doesn't matter. Is anyone really going to come to any harm from eating two oranges? Even if it was every night, probably not!

C8H10N4O2 · 18/04/2018 23:29

Are they Terry’s

Grin Grin

OP: totes agree with you but its so difficult isn't it? I had a whole lettuce and two tomatoes today plus at least six grapes. I will of course be fasting today to make up for it.

64BooLane · 18/04/2018 23:30

I miss the plain chocolate oranges. Milk ones just don’t do it for me. Sad

penguinsandpanda · 18/04/2018 23:31

I tend to find the second Terry's chocolate orange seems to give me food poisoning so best to limit yourself to one. It does make it a challenge to get your 5 a day though.
