Aww. This reminds me of my lovely younger brother back in the 90’s. Mum gave him money to go clothes shopping on he own for the first time around the the same age and he came back with bags full of hilariously awful bad taste t shirts like this.

I remember one in particular which had a picture on the front of two cartoon mice shagging whilst smoking and drinking beer. I think she made him take most back but let him keep one or two if the milder ones. The poo emoji would probably have passed the Mum test.

A rite of passage for teenage boys it seems!

FairiesVsPixies · 18/04/2018 13:52

I think it's quite controlling of you really.

Agreed. It's not even that bad.

ReanimatedSGB · 18/04/2018 13:52

If you don't want his teens to be one long battle, unclench. It's a perfectly harmless t-shirt, if silly. Save your strength for the times when you need to intervene because your teenager is doing something profoundly unethical, or putting himself/someone else at risk.

steff13 · 18/04/2018 13:53

I don't love the "poop emoji" trend. But, I would have let him keep it. When I was in junior high school "coed naked" t-shirts were the trend. I'm sure my parents cringed at that, and frankly they were a lot more suggestive than this shirt. The girls on my tennis team had ones that said "Coed Naked Tennis" at the top, and "It's in, it's out, it's over," at the bottom.

ILookedintheWater · 18/04/2018 13:55

It's awful. You did the right thing.

Topseyt · 18/04/2018 14:00

It wouldn't offend me. I might set guidelines as to where it could be worn, such as not to school, and not in front of grandparents.

I think it was very controlling of you to take it back. He might stop showing you his future purchases until he has worn them and you cannot return them

I'd suggest going back to the shop to get it for him, but then I can't see why it had to be returned in the first place.

fuckingjournocunts · 18/04/2018 14:02

I think that's pretty 💩 of you to take I back op.

InsomniacAnonymous · 18/04/2018 14:04

I'm amazed at the number of posters saying they don't 'get it'. It's not to do with being old either, because I'm in my mid 60's and I get it. I don't like it, but it's perfectly clear what 'I'm the shit' means and as a PP said, it's completely different to saying "I'm a shit".

Mrs9C · 18/04/2018 14:07

TBH I would have returned it too, it's tacky!

bloomsburyer · 18/04/2018 14:11

I'd have let him keep it and wear it to be honest.

Furano · 18/04/2018 14:13

I think its funny.

I wouldn't let him wear it to school, or to a party or anything like that but as a general top around the house and in the park its quite funny.

Clandestino · 18/04/2018 14:14

FFS, he's 13! I'd laugh. In fact, I'd wear it myself.

Mydoghatesthebath · 18/04/2018 14:16

Circa 1980 a teenage friend of mine wore a t shirt to a school trip saying ‘I am a virgin this is a very old T shirt’

Remember thinking her very daring and cool. The old HT wasn’t impressed. She had been in the navy during the war and told her to change or not go. She had to put on a PE top.

No messing around then. Grin

pigsDOfly · 18/04/2018 14:20

Oh bless him. He went out and shopped for his own clothes for the first time and came back with something he probably thought was really edgy and fun, and you took it off him and took it back to the shop.

I think that's a really mean thing to do.

My DS used to wear some really awful t-shirts when he was that sort of age, and older. Never bothered me. It's his choice and his body wearing it.

Pick your battles.

AnoiaUnstickMyDrawers · 18/04/2018 14:21

I had this at that age - it's a promotional shirt for a brewery, I had no idea it was a bit dodgy.

peacheachpearplum · 18/04/2018 14:21

I'd let him keep it but not wear it to school. Learning where it is and isn't appropriate is a useful life lesson.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 18/04/2018 14:22

Who even says 'I'm the shit? NEVER heard anyone say it!

Crap t shirt, crap taste!

SleightOfMind · 18/04/2018 14:26

My DS ( with the offensive knees) is 16 so, while I’ve explained the possible consequences, he’s old enough to make a decision for himself.

He hasn’t actually left the house in them yet though.
I think I scared him with stats of teen knife crime vics and the trivial perceived insults that provoked some of the attacks Wink

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 18/04/2018 14:27

What's wrong with it? Mind you, DGM nearly passed out when I bought a "Neil says who the hell is Frankie?" t-shirt. Hmm

missbonita · 18/04/2018 14:27

I'd say "you're the what" "Poo head?" "Poo face" "shit for brains" what does it mean? and play dumb till he went off it. Or I'd wear it and ensure he never touched it again. Grin

Spicylolly · 18/04/2018 14:28

That emoji is actually ice cream so I wouldn't worry too much haha everyone uses it as poop but it's just good old chocolate ice cream 👍🏻💩

vandrew4 · 18/04/2018 14:28

sneakygremlins classy.

ILoveDolly · 18/04/2018 14:29

It's not that bad. I think you're ok to insist he takes it back though just on the basis that its implied swearing. I wouldn't want to have my kid wear that. My daughter has a jumper with DUH! on it in sequins and that's about my limit!!!

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 18/04/2018 14:30

I had to Google "I'm the shit". Blush

pigsDOfly · 18/04/2018 14:32

Of course it's in bad taste and awful. He's a thirteen year old boy. Nothing wrong with that.
