To be panicking that an infection has spread to my brain or something

I'm getting in such a state I don't know what to do. Have been taking antibiotics for infected tooth for 3 days and they don't seem to have worked properly. There is less pain but I feel dreadful. Have been asleep today, which is very unlike me and a few hours ago I developed a headache which is now feeling like a weight on my head. Not an awful pain, but unpleasant.

I've been googling and am now panicking about sepsis. I'm here alone and just don't feel right. What should I do? Other than ring my mum, who's 3 hours away Sad

Seriously ?!!! Ring 111 !!

QuestionableMouse · 15/04/2018 20:00

Do you have a temperature or a non blanching rash? If so out do you should phone 999 straight away. If not ring 111.

Glumglowworm · 15/04/2018 20:07

Ring 111

The80sweregreat · 15/04/2018 20:08

I would go to A and E. Good luck ( you may need antibiotics)

Bluesrunthegame · 15/04/2018 20:08

111 now. Really, now.

Penfold007 · 15/04/2018 20:09

I'm sure its nothing but please seek advice. A few weeks ago i lost my DF to tooth infection related sepsis. Please don't take any chances.

Thehamsterspajamas · 15/04/2018 20:10

Definitely ring 111. It’s better to get checked over and be told it’s just a nasty infection than to potentially ignore something more serious. Good luck.

SunnySkiesSleepsintheMorning · 15/04/2018 20:12

While they’re not classic sepsis symptoms, it could be a problem and you do need urgent medical advice. I suggest 111 if you feel well enough and obviously A&E/999 if you don’t. Good luck.

Theduchessstill · 15/04/2018 20:13

I've rung 111 and been told need to see a primary care provider within 12 hours. They will ring me back. God it's at times like these I hate being on my own, luckily dc with ex.

You are probably experiencing side effects from the antibiotics. They aren't erythromicin by any chance? Anyway have a chat with your gp or dentist to change the prescription. You might want to stop taking them until you get to your GPS tomorrow.

SaucyJane · 15/04/2018 20:15

Can you get to see a dr or hospital if 111 tell you to go tonight, Op? Is it worth lining up a friend to take you if possible, or a taxi firm? It doesn't sound as if you should drive.

🤞🏻it's nothing

Haggisfish · 15/04/2018 20:17

What is your temp?

tizwozliz · 15/04/2018 20:18

Erythromicin made me feel terrible when I was prescribed it for a wisdom tooth infection. So much so that I stopped taking it, luckily for me that was the right thing to do as I turned slightly yellow a day later and had liver issues because of it.

thisismadness77 · 15/04/2018 20:20

Ring 111.

Theduchessstill · 15/04/2018 20:20

Unfortunately I've had lots of tooth issues over the years and never had a problem with these abs before - they're amoxicillin and metronidazole.

How long to 111 normally take ringing back? I don't want to drag anyone out in a Sunday evening so it'll have to be a taxi.

I had a joint infection earlier this year, GP gave me antibiotics and told me to go straight to A&E if I developed any flu type symptoms so if you have any of those with the headache I would go to hospital.

ratspeaker · 15/04/2018 20:27

Have you made sure to avoid any alcohol. Including mouthwash.

I always feel dreadful when taking metronidazole, could be the infection, could be the antibiotic, I never know.

notapizzaeater · 15/04/2018 20:29

The metro .... one is really strong one. Have you had it before ?

Theduchessstill · 15/04/2018 20:33

Yes, had them both before and been fine. They also worked on those occasions. I can't find a fucking thermometer for some reason and have just broken a bottle of ex's nasty aftershave that was lurking in the cupboard, so that's going to stink for weeks.

Haven't had any alcohol, but have been taking corsydol (sp?) but have taken that with abs before too.

Still no call-back.

It may well be the antibiotics. I had some from the dentist and felt so dreadful after 48 hours. I swapped to something different and was fine.

Olympiathequeen · 15/04/2018 20:44

I suspect it isn’t sepsis as you would probably be feeling much worse. Take 2 paracetamol while you wait for your headache. It could be a simple headache caused by stress. Paracetamol won’t make any difference to your assessment.

Hopefully 111 will ring back soon because it is possible to have a serious infection following tooth removal but rarely from tooth infection.

Shizzlestix · 15/04/2018 20:45

You might have developed an allergy to penicillin. The dh did, after being fine with them for ages. He had a raging headache and the uvula (thing dangles down at back of throat) swelled horrifically so was trailing down his throat but the killer was the migraine like symptoms.

Hope you’re ok, OP.

flippyfloppyflower · 15/04/2018 20:50

I am very sympathetic that you feel so unwell but I do think you are working yourself up for no good reason (probably because you are feeling lousy), Sepsis is still very rare (despite all the hu haha about it). Chances are your tooth is not responding well to the antibiotics (especially if you have had them before) and no, it does not mean you have sepsis just a nasty tooth infection that needs a different antibiotic.

Trust me when I say been there (and beyond) and not only have the Teeshirt but the whole sodding wardrobe. Flowers

LanaorAna2 · 15/04/2018 20:51

I've had this too from a boil on bum, despite abs it did get worse. I felt dreadful and when I finally got to the doc they started screaming about sepsis. But I was fine, it takes time to set in, so you should be ok as long as you see someone within 24 hours or so.

If it's any help, I started getting very cold and hot in waves, headache-y, stressy, and flu-ey. By the time I got to a doc (3 days later) I was getting a bit vague - had 2 coats on in 90 degree heatwave. You do feel pretty ill before you start losing it, I have to say. Killer ABS and a couple of little ops sorted me out. Had to take a month off though.

I know you're worried, but don't be - just turn up at the doc tomorrow am and don't leave until they've seen you. Those 2 ABs you're on are pretty standard, even at 2000 mg a day, there's a lot more powerful stuff out there.

Coolaschmoola · 15/04/2018 20:54

My friend's dc is currently in hospital being treated for sepsis, and they keep being told it's NOT rare.

The guidance is ALWAYS to ask if it could be sepsis if you have any of the symptoms.
