To be panicking that an infection has spread to my brain or something

I'm getting in such a state I don't know what to do. Have been taking antibiotics for infected tooth for 3 days and they don't seem to have worked properly. There is less pain but I feel dreadful. Have been asleep today, which is very unlike me and a few hours ago I developed a headache which is now feeling like a weight on my head. Not an awful pain, but unpleasant.

I've been googling and am now panicking about sepsis. I'm here alone and just don't feel right. What should I do? Other than ring my mum, who's 3 hours away Sad

And get your tooth out. Dentists are pretty wet about taking teeth out, but when they get to that stage they sometimes never stop going wrong.

Don't drink with metro, you'll be sick on the spot. Did you know they use it for alcoholics to put them off?

It would be typical of me to work myself up over something and nothing. I've just been feeling lousy all week - started with chronic itchy feet (!) that I had saw a pharmacist for - they responded to anti-hists, but he was talking about an infection. And then the fucking toothache started. Both dc were sick and it rained the whole time.

And all along I've been dreading going back to work tomorrow because it's awful and I told my boss I'm looking applying for other jobs. So could be stress-related I suppose?

Let's hope the doc sortd you out tomorrow but dont hesitate to phone again or go to a and e if your symptoms get worse. Hope you feel better soon.

Ekphrasis · 15/04/2018 21:04

Let an HCP decide, don't talk about stress etc, they can assess your symptoms. Hopefully you'll get a call back soon.

I was very early stage sepsis apparently with an aggressive uti in pregnancy; my temp was high but I didn't notice just noticed my skin ached and my heart was racing hugely. And felt horrendous. The abs had been started 24 hours earlier but hadn't kicked in yet. By the eve they had and my temp finally came down and aches stopped.

I know of a mother who died of sepsis last year due to tonsillitis that got out of control. I'd never risk it.

I hope you feel better soon.

Honestly id get someone round to sit with you. Im not saying this to scare you but a friend of mine had a tooth out and was on the same drugs as you have he had a terrible reaction includinh temporary insanity or mania of some sort he tried to kill himself, hit his wife he had a complete personality transplant for a number of weeks. The combination of things triggered a neurological condition which however unlikely did happen in his case.

Figgygal · 15/04/2018 21:07

Sorry just read you haven't had it out yet Blush

HermionesRightHook · 15/04/2018 21:08

It could be, but it could be something more serious. You've done the right thing by seeing 111 - if you've got an urgent care place to go to tomorrow if they don't call back that would be a good idea.

Also, I'm not saying this to scare you or because i think it is sepsis, just responding to another commenter - sepsis isn't particularly rare. The vast, vast majority of infections will not turn into sepsis but I don't think 'rare' is a helpful world when it affects 127,000 people a year in the UK - www.nhs.uk/conditions/sepsis/ (though the NHS does call it rare here!).

YouDancin · 15/04/2018 21:14

If it's any help I've felt like absolute shite on metranidazol. It really messes with me. Hopefully it is that and not something worse.

PussGirl · 15/04/2018 21:16

If it's an upper jaw tooth it could have caused a sinus infection.

That would give you a headache.

Quartz2208 · 15/04/2018 21:16

You are on some very heavy antibiotics so if it is sepsis it would be a very resistant bacteria, it could be a reaction to the metro antibiotic.

Do you feel hot/have a temperature/breathless/fast heart rate

DPotter · 15/04/2018 21:17

Appreciate you have other things to think about.... chronically itchy feet can be really bad Athletes foot. Treatment is very straightforward - slather your feet (the whole foot and nothing but the whole foot) in Daktarin Gold three times a day after washing your feet each time. If that’s not possible! Twice a day. For at least 2 weeks. Don’t be tempted to stop when your feet get better after a few days - the full 2 weeks minimum. Will cost you a bit in Daktarin but it’s worth it. DP suffered for years with itchy feet - sorted with this regimen in 2 weeks.

As for the tooth ache, agree with others
1). Metronidazole can make you feel shit, especially with alcohol on board and that includes most mouthwashes
2) get the teeth sorted when the infection is cleared. A poor history of dental infections is linked with heart disease.
Hope you feel better soon

somersetsoul · 15/04/2018 21:33

I hope you're ok op. It's awful when your dc are ill at the same time 😔 Fingers crossed you'll be sorted soon 💐

LittlePaintBox · 15/04/2018 22:22

The news has been full of sepsis and the need to be treated when you have the signs of it, so I don't think it's unreasonable for it to cross your mind when you feel dreadful.

Hope you are able to see someone soon who can set your mind at rest and, at the least, give you some decent pain relief. xxx

notmypropername · 15/04/2018 23:09

Go to A&E now. I infer nursed a hound lady who died in ICU following sepsis from a tooth.

notmypropername · 15/04/2018 23:09

Not to panic you or anything but go

SinceWhenDid · 16/04/2018 17:49

Hope you got checked over?

WellLetsSayHesSquare · 17/04/2018 10:30

Hope it all turned out OK op?

GreenShadow · 17/04/2018 20:27

Well, for all those that are worrying about the OP, she seemed to be posting quiet happily on other subjects last night.
Pity she couldn't have come back to this one to put people's minds at rest...

Theduchessstill · 17/04/2018 23:07

I'm sorry for not updating last nightBlush. I feel a bit stupid because was absolutely fine by Monday morning Blush. Think I worked myself into a state partly through being alone all day Sunday and dreading work.

I was grateful for all the comments, but also always feel embarrassed about bumping threads back up that have ended.

Sorry if I've offended anyone.

So glad you are ok. X

MildredHubble88 · 17/04/2018 23:14

Glad you're ok OP.

Re other comments about a non blanching rash and temperature. NEVER wait for a non blanching rash with meningitis if you have other symptoms, obviously if you have it then don't wait either as you're typically on deaths door by the time that rash comes out. My friend who had viral meningitis was extremely poorly with no rash!

donajimena · 17/04/2018 23:15

OP I am exactly the same when I'm on my own. I'm glad you feel better.
