To think that the bride's been cheeky here!

Alright, so there's a girl I met at uni who's now getting married. We're not close at all, but she's been very kind and invited me to her wedding. Evening only.

As the wedding is hours away, there's only one hotel close by with ridiculous rates, and I'd only be invited from 8:30pm anyway, I'm planning on not going. I went to go and click the 'sorry, can't make it' option on her RSPV website when I saw the ride share list on there.

I've been put down to drive (what appears to be) one of her elderly relatives from my hometown. Never offered this, have never met the elderly relative in question, haven't really spoken to the bride about the wedding at all Confused Messaged another friend who's been invited to evening early and is down on the list to rideshare with someone elderly, same thing with her!

I've never declined an invitation so fast. Not sure if I've been invited as a friend or because I've got a car and happen to be from the same place as her relative!

Placemarking for the bride's reply. Will there be emoji, I wonder?

MrsKoala, that's totally amazing. WTAF.

don’t think asking the bride to arrange an evening babysitter is cheeky.
You say parents can just take turns and pop in and check on them but that doesn’t work - look at the macann’s!
It’s better to have a professional babysitter for the evening if parents are going to be drinking
.

Total wind up, move on!

Place marking. No shame just like the bride.

This is priceless even amongst Bridezillas , such breathtaking CFery.
Reminds me when our DN had a big posh hotel wedding out in the sticks. Went on from noon (ceremony) to midnight the night do obviously. DHs brother, the bride's father ( a close family, their kids grew up together etc.) 'told us' we were bringing DMIL , DH agreed as DB would be busy as father of the bride ferrying her etc......fair enough so far. Then our invite arrived , fecking evening only !!
So we were supposed to drive his elderly mother with poor mobility to this place (about a 30 mile round trip) for the noon ceremony and presumably help her into the place etc and then disappear till 7pm at night when the evening do started.
Then no doubt tired elderly mil would be making noises about being tired and she takes complaining to another level wanting to go home etc so we would probably be straight in and straight out of the evening do, or endure DMIL throwing daggers at us and doing her poor little old lady that nobody cares about routine
I put my foot down (DH is a wuss and was going to agree) and said if they want us ferry DMIL then they should invite us to ceremony or we would only be bringing DMIL to the evening do.
In the end she said she didn't want to go as she hardly ever goes out these days and can't really be bothered and would rather be at home, so just wrote them a cheque and declined.

@HatingTheBigShow that’s a pretty tasteless remark.

McDougal · 24/04/2018 19:22

Got to the end of 462 posts to find no response from the CFB Angry

mikeyssister · 24/04/2018 20:19

@McDougal what responses have you missed?

McDougal · 24/04/2018 20:53

The bride's response to OP's brilliantly worded reply confirming she wasn't attending, Mikey. It doesn't seem as if CFB is the type to let it go Grin

mikeyssister · 24/04/2018 22:38

I can't wait for that either. Maybe someone will put her wise.

Come back op we need to know!

milliemolliemou · 26/04/2018 20:07

CFB has cracked and rounded up all refuseniks. They are now incarcerated in her living room tied to chairs while she stalks up and down in her wedding dress lashing them with her trial bouquet (proteas, asparagus fern and wild garlic). CFB is refusing to release them until they tell her why they couldn't all drive her rabbits, friends and relations to the wedding of the century. So far they have resolutely refused to tell her though one has croaked the words "Daily Star"

PsychedelicSheep · 26/04/2018 22:50

Great reply OP, keep us posted!

Our wedding reception was about half an hour from the reception but laid on a coach for anyone who wanted to get there without driving.
