Mumsnet is a force to be reckoned with and I’ve realised after reading a few threads today that I’ve bought a lot of things because of Mumsnet recommendations.

Aldi wine
Aldi pizzas
Matalan rug
Saltwater sandals
School uniform name tape
Essie nail polish
Pixi glow
Astral face cream
L’Oréal shampoo
Aveeno handcream
Aldi nappies
Switched to Coke Zero
3 x holidays for 8 people
2 x pushchairs
2 handbags
A scarf
Dozens of books
Kids coats
Dozens of Christmas gifts
Toys
Merlin pass
National trust pass
Event tickets
A sofa
Floor tiles
Bathroom suite
Dishwasher tablets
A fridge
A hoover
Method cleaning products
Light bulbs
Photo books
Photo calendars
Car insurance
Mortgage broker services
Audible

I’m sure there are loads more

Before most bigger purchases or trying a new brand I search Mumsnet. I start threads about things I want to buy, I read recommendations, I dip in and out of different sub forums.

What have you bought because of Mumsnet?

Babyliss Big Hair is a combined hairdryer and rotating hairbrush which gives you an approximation of a salon blow dry in minutes even if you’re a total klutz.

Freshprincess · 15/04/2018 18:08

And I'm already googling and bookmarking many many things off this thread.

The Babyliss Big Hair makes my hair look like I’ve had a professional blow dry.

Too much to mention! The idea that a boycott by a tiny number of transactivists who are always begging on social media would have the slightest impact vs our spending power is laughable!

chimpandzee · 15/04/2018 18:12

Lots of Hush especially the ruched skirts and the Tara and Tina dresses.
La Roche Posay
Boden ankle boots
M&S skinny jeans
Uniqlo velvet skinny jeans
Birger et Mikkelsen gwyneth bag

ALittleAubergine · 15/04/2018 18:12

Nothing yet. Am always looking for suggestions but haven't yet actually bought anything based on them.

WeShouldBeFriends · 15/04/2018 18:13

Ooh good question! Now I think about it yes, I'm clearly easily led by hype! That I can remember-
-mooncup
-Asda towels (they are indeed great)
-The Ordinary (foundation and rose hip oil)
-Tara dress from hush
-a dyson
-Marie Kondo book
-water toothbrush thingy
-All Saints leather jacket
-zoflora
I'm sure there's others Blush

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 15/04/2018 18:13

Well exactly Hermione the buying power of women who, even if they don’t agree with the general FWR stance on Self ID, do not want women to be silenced is immense.

ZOFLORA

sorry to shout. 🙄

Hypermice · 15/04/2018 18:14

Yes! Lots of stuff actually. The larger baby purchases like buggies I looked up reviews on here. I’m in he market for a double buggy and a co sleeper just now and haunting the relevant boards.

Sometimes I’ve clicked on ‘recommend me a moisturiser/hedge clipper/hoover/goat polisher’ if I’m in the market for one.

I WILL boycott any company that pulls ads from MN in the face of TRA pressure. They will never see a penny of my money again. And I have plenty of pennies to spend at other retailers and companies that support women’s rights.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 15/04/2018 18:15

Yes. Lots.

Most recently some horse shampoo.....for me

Hypermice · 15/04/2018 18:16

Mane and tail is fabulous stuff!

MrsWooster · 15/04/2018 18:17

I came on to mention a few things and, reading the thread, realised that I am completely addicted and two thirds of what I own was recommended on here. Like many others, I use it as a review centre... we are an enormous, discriminating and, in many cases, wealthy demographic and if people think they can scare advertisers away from our beloved MN, I suspect they are pissing in the wind..

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 15/04/2018 18:19

Henry hoover
Vax steam mop
Uniqlo jumpers
Hush dress (even though it made me look like a sack of bloody spuds!)
Wilko make-up (surprisingly bloody good)
La Roche Posay
Body Shop sun cream
Sainsbury's leggings
Gucci perfume
Aldi cereal and chocolate
Nip & Fab products
Chanel foundation
Kiko make-up
Method cleaning products
Loads of books and music which posters have recommended

Shortly going to order Karndean flooring for the house - which will probably come in as the most expensive product I've ever bought on a MN recommendation!!

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 15/04/2018 18:21

^^ This. I regularly advance search on MN for things I am considering buying. I find the advice on here is almost always honest and unbiased - and because it's such a wide demographic I can usually find people who are like me in shape/size/circumstance etc.

AntiqueOlive · 15/04/2018 18:23

Babyliss Big Hair sounds worth hearing about! Thanks mumsnet!

mogulfield · 15/04/2018 18:24

Loads of stuff already mentioned but my faves...
Aldi concealer pen (as good as touch eclait)
Primark double wear foundation (as good as my Estée Lauder one)
Zoflora
Aldi ‘Aussie shampoo’ Knock off!
Boden skirt - slimming and feminine a nice change from jeans!

nawnee2 · 15/04/2018 18:26

I think it was here I heard about sloggis. Saved my life last summer when I was still a little over weight.

Pinkvoid · 15/04/2018 18:27

Elf on the shelf about six years ago... I was obsessed with the Christmas forum on here and had never heard of it before. Wish I didn’t buy it, now it’s ultra popular and I find it so fucking annoying to do Grin.

DryAsThingysFootwear · 15/04/2018 18:28

Cotton mop

zofolora 😊

PetulantPolecat · 15/04/2018 18:29

OMG OMG OMG!!!

Can I tell you all something so incredibly amazing I realised via my time on mumsnet ???!!!!!

I have been reading the same thinly disguised product placement threads on here for years- months.

Which means some marketing executive somewhere has royally fucked up. Why? Because in the past, these threads showed up ever so discreetly and sparsely. We, innocent regular posters that we are, would excitedly pile in, gleeful to share our finds.

Not realising we were actually just unpaid, corporate “brand ambassadors/champions” doing the kind of word of mouth promoting MN HQ must tout in their “word of mouth/trusted brand followers/latest buzz word” marketing spiel to their advertisers.

You know, the whole if it’s free you are the product?

So yeah. You all just participated in a lovely advertisement disguised as “parents helping parents.”

DryAsThingysFootwear · 15/04/2018 18:29

Steam mop and cotton zoflora, not a weird combo of the two 😁

TheDailyMailLovesTheEUReally · 15/04/2018 18:30

How could I forget Zoflora?!

llangennith · 15/04/2018 18:34

This week a Wilko hair drying turban. Only £1.15 and it really does work!

GibbousMoon · 15/04/2018 18:34

A fab Protected Species raincoat. 200 pounds + but so comfortable and smart. Love it.
