Mumsnet is a force to be reckoned with and I’ve realised after reading a few threads today that I’ve bought a lot of things because of Mumsnet recommendations.

Aldi wine
Aldi pizzas
Matalan rug
Saltwater sandals
School uniform name tape
Essie nail polish
Pixi glow
Astral face cream
L’Oréal shampoo
Aveeno handcream
Aldi nappies
Switched to Coke Zero
3 x holidays for 8 people
2 x pushchairs
2 handbags
A scarf
Dozens of books
Kids coats
Dozens of Christmas gifts
Toys
Merlin pass
National trust pass
Event tickets
A sofa
Floor tiles
Bathroom suite
Dishwasher tablets
A fridge
A hoover
Method cleaning products
Light bulbs
Photo books
Photo calendars
Car insurance
Mortgage broker services
Audible

I’m sure there are loads more

Before most bigger purchases or trying a new brand I search Mumsnet. I start threads about things I want to buy, I read recommendations, I dip in and out of different sub forums.

What have you bought because of Mumsnet?

Yes-cloth sanitary pads, big hair, Hirons, clothes folder. Probably loads more.

Another who won't buy from anyone withdrawing ads...

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 16/04/2018 19:58

Can anyone tell me what is so fab about Method cleaning products? They're on 1/3 off in Waitrose and I'm tempted!

Korg · 16/04/2018 20:35

Babyliss Big Hair, Lidl nappies, clothes from Tu, Miele appliances, Lush plastic-free cosmetics, cash’s nametapes, Tripp trapp, IKEA Stuva, Startrite shoes. You name it, I check what other mners think.

TheChampagneGalop · 16/04/2018 20:46

Reading this thread has reminded me of many more items that I've bought because of MN. I even bought a Boden dress! SO not my style! MN is powerful Grin

They are eco friendly and smell lovely. Plus they are septic tank friendly - I'm not on mains drainage so have to be careful about what products I use (no bleach, no antibac etc.). I have their botanic handwash (which is limited edition and currently reduced in Waitrose) and it smells fantastic.

dontbesillyhenry · 16/04/2018 21:45

Lush dream cream for eczema...yay or nay?

@dontbesillyhenry

Absolutely 100% for DD1. Not for DD2 though who suited Aveeno (no good for DD1)

I buy loads of things because of Mumsnet. I am forever looking at the 'I'm going to ... what should I buy' and I have a Mumsnet beauty products list in my phone; so skin care, makeup and hair care (many different brands)

On the Christmas forum Mumsnet and its users were directly responsible for my overspend Wink and sending me to different sites.

Before we bought our house I looked on here and as I begin to decorate it this year I will be looking to the Mumsnet forums for ideas and recommendations.

Seriously this place costs me money!!

MissPiggysKarateChop · 17/04/2018 08:33

@VetOnCall is this good?

Collection Lash Surge mascara

I need a new mascara and I am a sucker for new brands I haven't tried.

(Costing me money again Mumsnet Grin )

MissPiggysKarateChop · 17/04/2018 08:35

Spring hair removal thingy is literally a small tightly coiled spring that you roll over your facial fuzz, effectively tweezing it all in a few strokes. It’s a great way to wake yourself up in the morning. 😂

Oh God I bought that too - it is an instrument of torture - it lies neglected at the bottom of my basket of potions and lotions.

Branleuse · 17/04/2018 08:37

loads of stuff

AgentHannahWells · 17/04/2018 08:39

Netflix, Hush, Selfish Mother, Uniqlo.

And a penguin bollard.

BanyanTree · 17/04/2018 08:43

I have bought lots of things I need and don't need Grin recommended by MN'ers.

What I wanted to say though was never buy anything online without coming on here first and seeing if there is a code. There is a special board for it. A MN'er recently recommended a pair of jeans to me after years of failure and I also got a 20% code off here. How fantastic is that? Grin

FairNotFair · 17/04/2018 08:44

Ugg Wilcoxes
Birget et Mikkelson bag
La Roche Posay
Hush (2 items; both looked hideous on me)
Method Wild Rhubarb cleaner
... plus sundry other stuff I can't remember...

ThursdayNextIsMyHero · 17/04/2018 08:50

Phillips Lumea
Karcher Window Vac
Steam mop
Holidays at Bluestone
Days out ideas for London
Help with Legoland visit planning
Toastie/waffle maker
Aveeno body lotion
Nip & Fab
Superdrug version of cleanse and polish
Bras that fit
Lots of book recommendations
Wine stock pots
MN cookbook
Marie Kondo
Sainsbury's jeggings

hmm, quite a lot really...

ArcheryAnnie · 17/04/2018 09:59

And a penguin bollard.

AgentHannahWells I think there ought to be some sort of special award for this. Only recipients so far: you, and the MNetter who bought that pink M&S maxi dress for the sole purpose of going to a MN meetup in it...

DryAsThingysFootwear · 17/04/2018 14:30

Stikins for school uniforms etc. They are almost indestructible I recommend them to everyone Smile

firawla · 17/04/2018 14:46

Booked a night at Efteling (2 days in the park) after first seeing it mentioned on here. I always check holiday recommendations and diy type recommendations from mumsnet

Lethaldrizzle · 17/04/2018 15:14

I do buy stuff i see on mumsnet but I am a little suspicious of mumsnet swears by. How do we really know that's real?

eloisesparkle · 17/04/2018 15:23

Lethal I'm suspicious too.
How did they just happen to have a link handy Wink

n0ne · 17/04/2018 16:42

LRP - transformative
Hot cloth cleanser - didn't get on with it
Soap - meh, dried out my skin
Amazon iPhone charger - perfect
Just ordered Ameliorate body lotion for my keratosis pilaris so fingers crossed it's as good as the S&B posters promised!

starkid · 17/04/2018 17:01

Aldi gold face cream (good)
Aldi concealer (shit)
Ponds cold cream cleanser (good)
Superdrug hot cloth cleanser (good)
Soap instead of shower gel (was worse than shower gel?!)
Horse shampoo (will try tonight and see...)

I've mostly bookmarked things to check out if I ever actually become a mum Grin

TheXXFactor · 17/04/2018 17:15

Horse shampoo

Intriguing. For you or a horse? Grin

VetOnCall · 17/04/2018 20:34

@MissPiggy I think the Lash Surge is good yeah, and it's an absolute bargain. I can't see much/any difference in results between it and my almost-done Benefit They're Real which is more than 3x the price. I won't be buying the Benefit one any more so will save ££.
